Tribred Gregor Caine decided long ago to deny his blood legacy. So he isn’t happy when paired with a full-blooded Fae to hunt the demons threatening to overrun Los Angeles. As they fight side by side, he finds she calls to both his Fae and his demon blood; a call he can’t resist. Warrior Fae Serra Willows crossed into the Human Plane to help destroy the demons released from the Chaos Plane. Finding and shutting down the portal between worlds is more challenging than she expected...and Gregor and his world more seductive than she had ever imagined. As the killings escalate, Gregor and Serra realize one of the most deadly demons from the Chaos Plane has marked Serra as his own. To save her, Gregor has to face his greatest fear—losing his humanity to the darkness in his blood. But in a race against time, that darkness could become his greatest strength. And he will kill to claim Serra’s love.
What New York Times Bestselling Author Maggie Shayne has to say about DEMON HUNT:
"Demon Hunt sucked me in from the very first page. A potent, exciting, Fae adventure that keeps you turning pages while you try to catch your breath. Ashworth's talent shines in this unique and original novel. Do not miss it."
"Very often, life isn't logical, but it usually makes sense if you're paying attention."
Giving up isn't an option. So what's a person to do, when.........You're human, falling for a Fae,not any Fae but a strong Warrior Fae? Geez Lousie! Gregor can't keep denying he's just a "human" forever. Having Fae and demon blood inside him,Amps ups his big role in the story. And deep down his inner self is itching for a fight, any fight.
The first would be the big fight! They're a few days away from the Winter Solice, which is a night for magicks, when the natural walls between the Planes grow slim. Many of the Fae,and humans as well as demons, hold rituals on the longest night of the year. Kendall Sorbis,is evil incarnated,he'll do what it takes to use the Winter Solice to his advantage, stealing powers from demons and the helpless. So, Gregor and his team must find and close the portal before the the full moon,or there will be many of deaths.
Next fight? Fighting his every urge and desire that he's attracted to Serra. C'mon! I'm a woman and know without a doubt, a female Fae warrior with a badass protective streak is, H.A.W.T! Once he embraces his bloodlines, he blows in full force, claims what his heart desires, and takes in what he's meant to be like a real man! Go Gregor! Lolz!
I liked the first novel, and hopped right into this novel liking it even better.I'm hoping for book three, not only to like it, but to love it! My two favorite characters,Justin and Maggie. They've pretended to grate on each others nerves, bicker and banter, in every book. So enough of the foreplay and bring on the good stuff! *snickers* These Caine brothers know how to reel in their woman. Starting with me,and thats more than enough said.... Hehe!
All in all, congrats to the author on her new release, and keep these stories coming. Two-thumbs up!
Serra Willows journeys through a portal from her world to find an ally, Gideon Caine, and lands on the beach near Santa Monica and immediately slips into the role of a jogger on the beach. As she's followed nearly to the car waiting for her by a human male, a demon walks on scene. Herein lies a struggle that will pervade the story's hunt. Serra, a Fae warrior, is duty-bound to protect the weaker creature. And Gregor Caine's man card stipulates that he shield women from harm. Anyone up for a game of paper-rock-scissors, because these two are about that stubborn? The demon settles the dispute by dragging Gregor from the bushes, and Serra must call down the wrath of nature to burn the demon to a crisp to save him.
Demon Hunt follows the formula set in its predecessor, Demon Soul. The Caine brother in focus is a damaged guy hiding years of emotional baggage behind a steel exterior. Witness to his mother's rape by a demon, he's lived his entire life denying his super-human blood because what good is it to him or anyone else. Learning that Serra is Fae annoys him. Having to work with her irritates him. Taking orders from her is enough to make the big man twitchy, much to the amusement of his younger brother Justin.
There's much to praise about Ms. Ashworth's work. Her writing is fluid. Her plots and subplots are complex and delicately interlaced. Her creature battles are fast, vicious, and thrilling. But she excels as sexual tension, keeping the reader on the verge of yelling at the pages "get it on already." This is certainly true of the main couple, Gregor and Serra, as she offering casual sex and he's gallantly holding back. But, Justin and his witch girlfriend, Magdalena, are on scene and sizzling with their Benedict and Beatrice style. (For those of you who don't get the reference, please read Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.)
Don't tell Maggie that I called her Justin's girlfriend, because she might turn me into something slimy, but they are the air each other breathes. (Take note, Ms. Ashworth, I expect Demon Rage to be explosive. * grin *)
The Caine Brothers series has taken me completely by surprise. I didn't know what to expect when I picked up Demon Soul, but this was not it. Part Angel and part Shakespeare, with a dash of erotic spice blown like a kiss off the author's hand, The Caine brothers is a example of what the paranormal genre should aspire to.
Wow. I haven't read a book in a while that I enjoyed this much!
First, let me say that, although this is the second book in the series I didn't feel lost. I do think my experience would have been even richer if I'd read the first book (and I plan on rectifying that immediately), but Demon Hunt stands strongly on its own. Very strongly.
The author has created a paranormal world that fits neatly into our own. Her characters aren't over-the-top different, even Serra the Fae warrior (well, aside from what happens to her when she has sex for the first time with our hero... I loved that!). Except for her ability to create firebolts and make the earth shake, she seems much like you and me and even has a love of jeans and other human clothing.
And Gregor? He really wants to be normal. He's in denial of his powers and refuses to acknowledge them, even when they start whapping him upside the head. It reminds me of an ostrich with its head in the sand, or a child with fingers in their ears, "lalalala... I don't hear you!". Eventually, though, Gregor has to confront those powers. He has no choice.
The author has serious skill with words, and creates her world with enough description to make sure we can see it, but not so much that we're being knocked over the head with it. She's a true master of "show don't tell" and I really enjoyed her voice.
The romance and sexual tension simmers throughout with the occasional flash bang when they can't ignore their feelings anymore. It's sweet. It's hot. And quite believable, despite the speed with which it happens and the occasional inappropriate feelings of desire (like when they're fighting a demon).
The secondary characters were just as well-rounded as the main protagonists. I was nearly as wrapped up in Justin's story as I was in Gregor's! The Caine brothers are fascinating men, and I can't wait to dive into book one to see what I missed.
Looking for a paranormal story full of equal parts action and romance? Want a book that keeps you completely entertained and turning pages to see what happens next? Look no further than Demon Hunt. I hope book three comes out soon.
What do you get when you cross a warrior fae with a tribred - lots of interesting situations where they both are vying for control and refusing to back down. Serra is a healer and a warrior fae sent to the human world to close the portal from the Chaos Plane and kill the demons. Sounds simple enough but then you add Gregor Caine to the mix, a man who is part demon, part fae and part human and life gets to be that much more interesting. Both of them are strongly attracted to the other and although Gregor refuses to acknowledge his fae heritage, he is drawn to her on so many levels. Serra is still grief stricken over losing her twin brother in battle and the nightmare of facing off against the same type of demons that killed her brother is daunting. Not only is Serra and Gregor fighting to save earth, they are fighting against becoming too attached to each other as Serra has to go home in 4 days. A sexy PNR romance novel where both main characters are kick ass and there is heaps of fighting and action scenes going up against the demons. A few steamy sex scenes that will get you all hot and bothered but in a good way. I would recommend reading the first book in the series as the other characters from it return in this one, Justin and Maggie are still bickering like an old marriage couple yet refuse to acknowledge that they are a couple. The weres are back to lend a hand after the Caine brothers helped save their women in Demon Soul. Kendall the ultimate Death Mage is wrecking havoc as usual and the Caine brothers band together to fight for their lives. Great story where you are invested in the characters and want to see that happily ever after happen.
Just when you thought it was safe to lust after demons... turns out they're not so wonderful, after all. At least, the full demons being brought over into the Human Plane, not so much.
Now, tribred (demon, fae, and human) Gregor Caine is another breed, indeed. Yummy, caring, but afraid of "letting go" to either his daemon or fae side. Helping to draw him to embrace his fae side is utterly embraceable warrior fae Serra Willows. Yes, we don't think of fairies as warriors (even in Village People style boots) but slender, beautiful Serra kicks a-- with the best of them, something that is difficult at first for Gregor, inclined to be a smidge chauvinistic protector, to accept.
I love that Serra is a skilled warrior, and that Gregor learns to value this side of her. The action is compelling, the sexual tension (and activity) is hot, and the ending, where both partners MUST work together, is completely satisfying. Love this book, can't wait till the next.
I found this book fascinating. I haven't read any others really like it. Yes, I know that this isn't the first in the series. And no, I haven't read the first one. But reading this one, definitely makes me want to read the first. Why? Because this story was great. It had romance, action and adventure. Also a strong, independent heroine! But if I had read the first before this one, I feel like I would be able to connect with them even more. That's what is so great about sequels, the continuation of a story while connecting and learning more about the characters. I loved being able to see the struggle of Gregor accepting his bloodlines. And yes, there are some scenes (you know which ones) that are down right steamy ;) LOL. There were a few parts that felt kinda slow to me but over all it was really good!
I loved this book!! This book was full of danger, excitement, and some demon butt kicking. It was so hard to put it down. This book had you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend. Can't wait to read the next book.
