In this environmentally aware midrash when King Solomon becomes so busy that he forgets the forest he loved as a child he comes to understand the price we pay when we don't take care of our world. Perfect for Tu B'shvat
Even if this story is a midrash (which the appendix claims is a story based on Biblical truth) it is pathetic. I'm so confused as to why the authors would say that and then completely ignore Biblical truth as simple as where wisdom comes from and why David chose Solomon to succeed him. This book would be good for a child to practice their skills of discernment. The Bible clearly states that David was told that Solomon was to be the next king, he did not look over his sons and choose Solomon because he was wise. The book also paints Solomon as wise before he becomes king, ignoring the fact that wisdom was the gift he asked of God after his coronation. Bizarre, people, really.
