One word? Exceptional. Just like the previous book in the series, UnEnchanted, this book was amazing. I only bought the first book because it was a free E-book but I just had to buy the second one when I finished because it was just that good. Although I'm guessing that's the point of giving you the first book free huh? Nonetheless I loved it. It shows not only a teenager's coming-of-age and challenges with love and friendship in the normal world but has amazing fairytale twists on it.

I want to give this book a triangular award but in this book the love triangle turns to a love square which is interesting but worked out well for me because she has to end up with the guy I prefer so I'm going to give it the PYRAMID AWARD because that's like a complicated triangle.

Though the story was captivating enough to make me read it in one sitting, I'm still a bit disappointed in this book. I got so tired of Mina being the self-obsessed clueless teenager with the patience of tea kettle. And in the end she suddenly got all wise and insightful, able to threaten her foe but I still didn't quite get what she meant and even if it gets explained in the next book - which probably will come one day - I'm afraid that it will be to late for me.

After finishing the first book I couldn't wait to start the next. This book kept me reading till the very end. Good read. I would recommend this book to my friends.

I really enjoyed reading this.I'm not sure how I feel about Mina constantly swooning over Brody.I mean,it's getting kind of creepy and annoying.I like Brody but,come on...Jared is Jared.Also,I don't really fancy Nan,she can be too enthusiastic for my taste sometimes.The story was really interesting and I couldn't wait to find out what will happen next,even though it takes Mina forever to realize some pretty obvious facts.This book has its flaws,but it's so addictive,I just have to read the whole series.On to the next one!

Chanda Hahn has done it again! In her sequel to UnEnchanted, she created a world full of thrilling moments, heartbreaking loss, breathtaking glimpses at love and a perfect ending that will leave readers anxiously awaiting the release of book three in the An Unfortunate Fairy Tale series!
I can’t get over how much I enjoyed Fairest! As a fan of Chanda Hahn, I’m not surprised that I enjoyed the novel. I am, however, surprised that I liked it more than UnEnchanted.
If the ending of UnEnchated broke my heart, the beginning of Fairest completely shattered it. I wanted so much for Mina to find the happiness and peace she deserved. I wanted her to have something or someone to hold. As I continued to read, shattered heart and all, I began to see that maybe JUST maybe she is on track for a happily ever after, after all. But, it’s going to be on her terms!
Mina is a remarkably strong heroine. There were times when she questioned her strength, but it was there all along. She just had to find it and trust those who were desperately trying to help her. The final scenes in the book proved that she found her strength and something much more.
I found it so powerful that even with a shared kiss between Mina and Brody the passion was stronger in every moment between her and Jared. Passion doesn’t necessarily mean lovely feelings and rainbows. There were times where Mina flat out couldn’t stand Jared. She ached for his honesty and was repeatedly let down. Then, there were brief moments when he let her in and it sent my heart soaring. Regardless of what type of passion existed between the two, it was there and it was thrilling.
Without giving away too much, I loved the twists and turns in Fairest. “The Story” and other things lurking in the shadows did their best at playing Mina’s emotions against her and in turn, changed the view of Mina always being the victim.
It doesn’t get any better than Fairest! Like Mina said, “the lines of battle have been drawn.” I can’t wait to read what Chanda has in store for readers in book three!

What I liked:
-Jared. Even though I still really hate the whole “trust-a-complete-stranger-because-I-say-so” thing, Jared definitely grew on me during this book. I actually like the idea of him and Mina being together, and I could tell Jared really cared about helping Mina. Oh, and I totally called it while reading the first book; he’s gonna be leading man number two.
-Fae. I liked the more in depth look at the good fae, like Ever and Jared, but I think we still need a bit more world building to really get a sense of things. There was a bit of a twist with this that I didn’t really see coming. Surprise! I honestly didn’t see that one coming, though I probably should have.
What I disliked:
-Mina. She annoyed the hell out of me in this book. All she did was whine over Brody, and since I never really felt like they were “in love” in the first place, this really bothered me. She pined after a boy she barely knew, and that’s all she did. It seemed like the Story took a backseat to Mina’s love life, and I really hate it when authors do that.
-Nan. She annoyed me almost as much as Mina did, but I’m not as sure why. I know why I hated Mina in this book; I don’t know why Nan bothered me so much. She seemed like as much of a moody brat as Mina—the definitely deserve one another as best friends. And I hated the little twist at the end.
-Lack of fairytale. This book focused way too much on Mina’s love life, and I hated that. The main thing I loved about the first book was the originality of it, with the addition of the fairytale element, and both of those things were missing from this book. This book was turned from “teen-kicking-fairytale-ass” into “boring-teen-whines-about-her-boyfriend”, and I hated that. It got turned into nothing more than a cheesy romance with a bit of action here and there.
-Price. I paid three dollars for this book—which is quite a bit for a self-published book—and not only was it not as satisfying as the first book, it was also way shorter. I think the price definitely needs to be lowered.
Overall, this book was not nearly as good as the first in the series. For the most part, it was just alright. There was nothing special about it. It was a sappy romance with little else to it, and it definitely would have been worth the read if I hadn’t had to pay three dollars for it. It was too short and more of a transitional book. The bad unfortunately outweighed the good. Hopefully the next one will be better. 2.0

While this sequel to Unenchanted was still good, there were a few flaws that stuck out for me. First of all, the editing and grammar mistakes in this one are even worse than the first one. It's disappointing. I know that when self-publishing it's more likely for stuff to fall through the cracks, but some of the misplaced commas and use of "too" instead of "to" is just distracting.
The other thing is that I'm getting a little impatient with the amount of information being revealed. I understand that we don't want everything revealed; it's good to have some suspense and unanswered questions. However, there's only so long I can wait to understand things before I stop caring. And really, I'm not sure how many times I can read basically the same scene over and over again without getting bored. It goes like this: "Jared, you have to tell me what's going on." "I can't, Mina, you're not ready yet/I just can't tell you/you wouldn't understand." "But if you don't tell me then I can't trust you!" I swear, variations of this scene happened many times throughout this book (and the first one, too).
But Hahn manages to save this story with the second half, and the ending in particular. Once again, it's a fascinating plot twist with lots of unexpected elements. What this series really has going for it is the plot. Unfortunately, the characters and writing can't quite live up to that. Luckily, the plot is good enough to keep me reading and interested in buying the next book, whenever it comes out.

Warning... Possible spoilers!
This was the second book to what thus far has been overall an amazing series....with one major flaw... There is no true happy ending for Mina! Ever!!!! I totally get that this is an unfortunate fairy tale, but stillllll!!! Seriously, if the story and ideas themselves weren't so good, I would be so fed up with how these past two books ended that I would hate them.
Like the first, this book deserves six stars for creativeness. The stories are gripping with just the right amount of mystery, and I love the fairy tale tie ins! Especially as the story moves along, it's great to see where everything fit in!
I was actually really shocked to see how many people are rooting for Jared. To be honest, I didn't even think of a love connection there. I always thought of him as a friend, who happens to be good looking - and really mysterious at times. For me, the real love story has always been with Brody. Although the first book was heartbreaking, and this was equally so, the connection that Mina and Brody have is strong. Their connection worked its way back into this book, even though he didn't remember any of the previous happenings. I definitely could have used more of the two of them. Personally, I'm praying for Mina to finally get her happily ever after with him. And again, I get it's an unenchanted story series,but she's such a likable character, I will be devastated if in the end of the series she doesn't end up with Brody... and for real, without Story messing things up!
I read there's a third book coming out sometime later this year and I'm on edge of my seat waiting for it!!

I read the first one in this series 2 days ago, and found it enjoyable enough to purchase this book, the second in the series. I enjoyed the first book and rated it 4 stars. I LOVED this book and gave it a solid 5. I have to tell you that this is one of the MOST enjoyable one sitting reads I have read in a long time. The writer keeps things moving quickly without making the reader feel "pushed" through the story and without leaving the reader feeling like they've missed out on important pieces of the story. You can instantly identify with the characters and their feelings. You understand why they make the choices they make and why they say the things they say and don't say. There are just enough funny moments in the story, but it isn't so much that you feel like you're watching a parody. There are twists and turns, but not to worry... the writer doesn't leave you "lost in the woods" for long before she gives you the information you need to continue on through the journey that is the plot line. It's well written and easy to read, but not in a way that makes the older readers feel like our hands are being held. After reading both novels, I went to the authors web site and found out she does NOT use an editor! This explains why the first book was offered for free and I was able to purchase the second for one $2.99! Thank you Mrs. Hahn! This is an incredible gift to book readers! You've given us an amazing book series that is well written, east to read and marvelously fun all at a bargain price! I can't wait to read what you have in store for us next!

OH. MY. GOD. That was probably one of the best endings to a book I've ever read. Mina is such a strong, fierce female character and I love her so much. This series is so amazing!!!

Can I start out by saying I've been all for Jared since the first book? I absolutely HATE Brody. I feel as if his character is rather flat, like what everyone (except me obviously) would want from a guy. I understand he was doing the whole " Prince Charming" thing, but I wanted to smack him half the time in both books. At least Jared had a legitimate reason to kind of be a dick periodically. It frustrated me to no end Mina kept pining over Brody. Ugh.
Mina. What I wouldn't give to be able to reach my hand through my Kindle and strangle and/or slap some sense into that girl! I adore her reason for going through the Story is to protect her brother. But throughout Fairest, she seemed more concerned with boys *cough*Brody*cough* I understand she's a teenager but come on, she knows that she has a curse attached to her that she has to break to save her brother and that could kill her. I personally would be more concerned with figuring that out instead of going into a jealous rage over her best friend getting into a car with her crush/ex boyfriend. But no. That would of course be the logical thing to do. Instead she kills/puts her best friend into a coma. Because she was jealous of her. W. T. F. Some best friend. But I do commend her for getting her act together later to save everyone. And as for Nan and Brody being each others true love, serves Mina right for hurting her friend. Stupid girl.
I actually don't mind Mina that much. She is somewhat mercurial, but I enjoy that in my protagonist. She was pretty well developed, although I attributed some of her character flaws to the author trying to make her like an average teenager. The author honestly should have spent more time developing each character because most are pretty flat or stereotypical. Except for Jared. Although I may be biased because I have a thing for bad boys with an attitude hiding a heart of gold. Oh well.
The writing in this novel was an improvement from the first one. There were fewer grammatical errors this go round, which made me a happy reader. Granted there were some time jumps or moments where it took me a minute to realize what was happening because the setting or time changed without transition.
Over-all, Fairest was a feel good type of read. I am enjoying the series (other than the occasional frustration from character stupidity). I am looking forward to the third book and am crossing my fingers Brody will no longer be a love interest. We shall see.

İlk kitabı sevmiş olsam da daha farklı olmasını istediğim kısımları vardı. Sonlarına doğru daha fazla sevmeye başlamam ilerledikçe güzelleşeceğine dair umut vermişti. Ve gerçekten de öyle oldu. Masal’dan Kaçış, ilk kitaptan çok daha iyiydi.💃🏻

İlk kitapla ilgili spoiler olmamaması için olaylardan bahsetmeyeceğim. Burada da yine tamamlanması gereken büyük bir masal ve küçük masallar var. Kapaktan da anlaşılacağı üzere, bu kez ana masalımız Pamuk Prenses😍 Her masalla birlikte kimin hangi karakterin uyarlamasında rol alacağını çözmeye çalışıp durmak gerçekten çok güzeldi. Teorilerimin değişip durması son ana kadar heyecanımı fazlasıyla yüksek tuttu. O nedenle çok mutluyum.😍
Açıkçası sonu beni üzdü diyemem. Belki bir başkası olsa daha iyi olurdu, orası ayrı.🙊 Brody’den uzaklaşmış hissediyordum okurken zaten. Ve ilk kitaptaki sondan sonra ne olursa olsun Brody ile ilgili hep bir şüphe kalacaktı aklımda. Brody mükemmel prens gibi gözükse de Jared’ın daha derin bir karakter olduğunu hissediyorum. Onu daha fazla tanımak için sabırsızlanıyorum.❤️ Bu final beni rahatlattı diyebilirim hatta. Bu sayede Mina’nın soru işaretlerinden daha çabuk kurtulup Jared’ı görmeye başlamasını umuyorum.
Jared hikayeye dahil olduğunda hikaye Brody odaklı olduğu için çok olumlu bakamıyordum ona ama bir şekilde kalbime sızmayı başardı. Ne ara oldu gerçekten bilmiyorum, bir anda Jared’ı görmenin hayaliyle okurken buldum kendimi.🙃 Mina hem Jared’a bir yakınlık hissedip hem de sürekli Brody’i sayıklayıp durdukça ve Jared’ı suçladıkça Mina’ya kızdım açıkçası. Jared’ın ufak ufak olsa bile kendini açmaya başladığını görmemesine üzüldüm hatta.
Bu serinin çıkış fikrini inanılmaz seviyorum. Masal uyarlamaları zaten aşırı sevdiğim bir konuyken burada uyarlamaların yanında Masal’la girilen mücedelenin olması çok daha ilginç kılıyor seriyi bence. Devamında bizi neler bekliyor çok merak ediyorum. Umarım devam kitaplarına hızla kavuşuruz.❤️

Onu daha fazla tanımak için sabırsızlanıyorum.❤️ Bu final beni rahatlattı diyebilirim hatta. Bu sayede Mina’nın soru işaretlerinden daha çabuk kurtulup Jared’ı görmeye başlamasını umuyorum.
Jared hikayeye dahil olduğunda hikaye Brody odaklı olduğu için çok olumlu bakamıyordum ona ama bir şekilde kalbime sızmayı başardı. Ne ara oldu gerçekten bilmiyorum, bir anda Jared’ı görmenin hayaliyle okurken buldum kendimi.🙃 Mina hem Jared’a bir yakınlık hissedip hem de sürekli Brody’i sayıklayıp durdukça ve Jared’ı suçladıkça Mina’ya kızdım açıkçası. Jared’ın ufak ufak olsa bile kendini açmaya başladığını görmemesine üzüldüm hatta.
Bu serinin çıkış fikrini inanılmaz seviyorum. Masal uyarlamaları zaten aşırı sevdiğim bir konuyken burada uyarlamaların yanında Masal’la girilen mücedelenin olması çok daha ilginç kılıyor seriyi bence. Devamında bizi neler bekliyor çok merak ediyorum. Umarım devam kitaplarına hızla kavuşuruz.❤️

I really wanted l like this sequel. But I found a few things irritated me and others too, it seems from reading other reviews.
My biggest point of contention is that the story lurched from one plot to another as if Hahn had in each case just remembered to tie up a loose end or plot hole. I found that this made the fairy tale part hard to follow as the love lives of the characters took a front seat and the fairy tale, the back seat. Now I usually happen to like the romance aspect of any YA novel, but I also specifically liked the modern fairy tale premise of this series and it all but disappeared in this book, until the last few chapters.
Now onto the characters. Mina's constant broken record spiel of not being able to trust Jared despite the many times he's helped/saved her just did not cut it with me. This could also be because I have a MASSIVE soft spot for Jared as I found him to be the only redeeming feature in this novel. Jared's character seemed to have a little more depth that the other one-dimensioned characters - I mean Robert's entire purpose seemed to be to go all 'overprotective, you can't talk to my daughter-in-law' to Mina once every few chapters. (Also daughter-in-law? What happened to good old fashioned 'stepdaughter'?)
Nan and Brody being soulmates just seemed to me like a convenient tying up of the characters in order to get Brody out the way for Jared and Mina to develop. Now, I much much prefer the Jared and Mina coupling, it's just that the Nan and Brody thing seemed a bit abrupt, especially as Brody being Mina's love interest has been made a huge deal of in the two books. Also, I just couldn't understand the logic behind Brody being Nan's 'one true love' as she has never shown an interest in the guy beyond giving him a 12 on the hot scale and constantly pushing Mina in his direction and vice versa...
Anyway, I think the book had loads more potential as it started off okay, it just seemed to peter out in the middle/end which was a shame.

This was maybe the dumbest book I've ever read, and I've read My Boyfriend Merlin.
Here are just a few of my issues with the book:
-It was SO badly written: chapters ending with exclamation points, basic grammar and editing mistakes, and the author explicitly telling us things that we already knew because we know how to infer. It was painful to read most of the time.
-Literally nothing happened to move the overall story line along. I feel like I have come away with no (okay, fine - very little) new information that will be needed in the long run. It felt like this entire book was just a lead up to the next book. So why even have this book?
-The characters are the dumbest. The main character couldn't see things that were completely obvious, and then out of nowhere she'd have a huge epiphany that would answer all these questions. Every character does something out of character at some point in this book, and there's absolutely no reason for them to act like that. I was kind of into the love triangle in the first book, but now I hope that all 3 of them end up alone.
I am only continuing on with this series because my sister says that last two are good, but honestly, I hate all of these characters so much that I don't know if I'm going to make it through.

Overall this wasn't a bad book. I was a little bummed that it didn't focus on more fairy tales like they did in the first book. They really only covered a part late in the book. The one thing that really bugged me was that her best friends true love ended up being the guy that Mina really liked. Even though I'm pretty sure that the author is leading us up to Mina being with Jared I still think that it's crappy. I guess I'm just tried of crappy "best friends" acting like this and not caring. Hopefully in book 3 we will focus more on fairy tales rather than personal lives.

I haven't read the first book in this series, so the story did take me a while to get in to...but, once I was a couple chapters in, I started to really enjoy the story. It was a very interesting read! I will probably continue the series when I have the time.

I started and finished this book in only a few hours. It was good!! I have always loved the retelling of fairytales and Chanda Hahn does a great job at retelling the Brothers Grimm's fairytales.

These books aren't my favorite but they work great to listen to when I have constant interruptions or can't fully focus. The girl in this book DRIVES ME NUTS! This book was the worst. The twist with her realizing her "role" in the story made me realize why she bugged me even more, but even on her good day she still drives me nuts. I keep sticking with the series though because I like to see how they twist the stories to fit modern day and I like most of the other characters and occasionally I need a really simple book...

I was a bit let down by this book. I quite enjoyed the first one, but in this one Mina is pretty whiney, and goes around feeling sorry for herself.

WOW!! I wish there were six stars because it definitely deserves it. This book was incredible. I like that Mina played the part of the villain. It is so much more exciting when the roles are switched!! I like Jared even more after this book. It is about to get extremely interesting. This book was a real page turner. I did not want to put it down!! I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Yasss book two of the Unfortunate Fairy Tale series!!!! This one was always my favourite of the three I read when I first read these way back in the day. It was a huge improvement on the first one because it was edited a lot better (still lots of editing errors) and it has more JARED!!!!!!!!
I have always been 110% team Jared. Fricken love him. This book has a lot of cute Jared moments that I loved years ago, and that I still love now. I don’t know what else to say about this book so I’m just going to copy all the annotations I made in my book ;) Actually, my Kobo is mean to me and it deleted all my annotations I made before 80%, so these are all from the last 20% of the book. //cries

Hmm, I think I liked the first book a bit more, but I still enjoyed this one. I think the ending bumped it up a star for me though. It’s been about a month since the last book ended and Mina has completed a few more stories and has built up some confidence. While I like Mina, I got frustrated with her a bit in this one, but at the same time I liked that her “role” in the story wasn’t what she expected. The romance was pretty lacking in this one. I’m not sure who were supposed to be rooting for and admit I was disappointed with Brody’s story. I wonder how all that will work out? I do like that the “love-triangle” (which I use the term lightly) is a bit more unique from most. Both guys were actually absent quite a bit of the story and I missed them. I like both Brody and Jared, although I’m still rooting for a certain one of them to be Mina’s prince charming. While Mina did drive me nuts a couple times, I did like the growth she went through towards the end. I think she is learning from her mistakes and to be careful what she wishes for.
There were some interesting revelations at the end and I look forward to seeing where the story will go. There wasn’t as many POV jumps this time around. I actually kind of missed hearing from Brody and even Jared. I wonder how many books will be in the series, it doesn’t seem like things can get wrapped up in just one more book. I like the story though and wouldn’t mind if it was a bit longer series.
Overall, a good installment. If you liked the first book then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one as well.

En líneas generales se encuentra casi al mismo nivel que UnEnchanted. Excepto porque en algún punto el ritmo se vuelve lento, a diferencia del anterior, en el que siempre estaba pasando algo.
Pero se ven bastante compensadas estas fallas con algunas importantes mejoras. Primero y principal; el lastre de Brody pasó a la historia (¡Hurra!) y segundo; ya no aparece hasta el pato que cruzó la calle dando su punto de vista. Ugh. Etapa superada por la autora, afortunadamente.
Lo malo de esto, (que quizá sea la razón por la que el libro se volviera lento, al estar el "verdadero amor" de Mina desaparecido en acción y también su bestie) es que la dichosa Mina se vuelve toda introspectiva. Y no introspectiva agradable. No. Sino sufrida y angustiosamente comprometida con las tribulaciones adolescentes del amor y amistad defraudada.
Pero a cambio de todo esto, una se encuentra con una inesperada pero bienvenida Evil queen, con las resoluciones finales bélicas anti-fae y más (Yay!) Jared , lo cual resulta irónico porque es a quién se le puede acreditar legítimamente el estatus de "desaparecido en acción" pero el valor de su personaje aumenta no debido a la cantidad de apariciones, sino a la información proporcionada acerca de su rol dentro de la historia, de lo cual ya la autora daba indicios. Pero aclarado todo (con personajes nuevos incluidos¡Realeza, psé!) aumentan considerablemente las apuestas. ¡Ya era hora!
En resumen, aunque no está exenta de baches. La autora escogió bien su veneno, cambiando unos tropiezos por otros. Pero ganando en el camino la experiencia necesaria para lograr que la historia avance.

Okay, I liked the first novel UnEnchanted but I love Fairest (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale Book 2). It was the final few pages that did for me. It’s the gumption of the character Wilhelmina Grimm, in those few chapters she turn the entire series on its head.
Now she is an emboldened character that I believe could actually complete the two tails. She will do whatever it takes to complete them. In those few final chapters Chanda Hahn redefined her burgeoning series.
It’s a page turner from beginning to end. I like the lighthearted tone of this book but I also felt the urgency of the character. Mina Grime is a character that’s in more control of her emotions than I gave her credit for. Sometimes I did think she’s a little too apathetic to her plight until the same afore mentioned final pages.
Fairest is like part two of a single story being told because it starts just a few day after. Everything that happens in these two books is the tip of the iceberg, which has just flipped. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Before reading this book you should definite read UnEnchanted (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale Book 1) first; a few of the references come from this book.

I'm a bit disappointed in this sequel. First of all, it seemed like there were several discrepancies between the first and second book. In Unenchanted, they made it a point to tell us that while capable of manipulating the truth, the Fae cannot outright lie. In this book, Mina never stopped questioning the truth of differing Fae's statements. And then there were other small differences that annoyed me, as well, like book ones's all-you-can-eat-potstickers at Wongs' vs book two's all-you-can-eat-dumplings. (Maybe they're the same thing?)
And in a lot of cases the characters' actions didn't seem to match up with their personalities. Nan was a little self-involved in the last book but still sweet and fiercely loyal. In this book, it seemed like she looked for almost every opportunity to stick it to Mina. By the end, I could have cared less whether she lived or died. Mina, herself, was less than sweet when it came to Jared, and I kept wanting to scream, "You idiot! He's the only one who can and will help you. Maybe if you were a little nicer and more trusting, he wouldn't act like that." She was so uncivil throughout the whole book, and it felt like a completely different person from Unenchanted. She was rude to everyone from the Fae queen to Brody.
Anyway, I like the premise of the series, but I do hope the tone of the next book will be something besides continual discord.
