Fat Diary

Rate this book
A West Texas librarian makes fun of herself and the other people in her town, while writing about her reasons for wanting to lose weight.

Pamela Mae Willard must learn to love herself. Still, she can’t resist laughing about her problems, and about the adventures of the colorful characters in Acorn, Texas.

This irreverent, politically incorrect tale reveals a woman finding joy in life, no matter what happens to her and no matter who mistreats her.

This short story also appears in The Acorn Gathering. Some of its characters also appear in The Acorn Stories.

This is a short story that tells the tale of a young, insightful librarian who is also overweight. As she endures a divorce and a town of zany characters, she finds love for a second time and learns to accept herself. The story is light-hearted, and at times laugh-out-loud funny. Simolke's sentence construction is often brilliant, and the story left me feeling delighted. It became apparent from page one that the 260 lb. librarian/heroine was the smartest, wittiest character that I'd met in a long time.

Humorous short book. Took me a while to get used to first person writing from an overweight, socially troubled young women written by a male author. I'd be curious to hear from female readers how well they feel he did projecting a woman's feelings. Funny characters and clever writing. Almost short story length. ALSO - IT'S FREE!!!
