After a tigress kills a young bullock, the herdsmen and the sanctuary ranger concoct a plan that will save their animals as well as the tigress and her cubs.
What first caught my eye was the cover, so I am disappointed that it does not show up on here. The illustrations are gorgeous! This is a good multicultural book. It shows a different way of life. I really like the ending!
A book that shows the problems that are occurring between animals and humans. I would keep this book in the classroom for students to understand all sides to the issue at hand. Would be appropriate when talking about animals in grades 3-5.
Tigress should be a recommend book for children because the beautiful illustrations help children to show knowledge and understanding that tigers lives in Africa, the Illustrations are vivid in parts such as the huntsman approaching the tiger. I think this helps children to show understanding of the tigress emotions from looking at the vivid pictures of the huntsman. The pictures of the fire are vivid which also help the children to understand the tiger’s panic , but it also teaches children about what the landscape is like for an animal living in this area

This book incorporates lots of interesting vocabulary and many opportunities for cross-curricular learning. This book could be used to introduce children to food chains and the circle of life. An interesting read
Samuel picked this one up at the library and was instantly taken in by the cover's extreme close-up of the tiger's face. The art is not full-strength; however, what the illustrator chose to show (perspectives and details) or not is very interesting. Oddly, the most fascinating thing about the illustrations is the trees, not the tigers.
As for the story, I longed for just a few more words on the reasoning behind the fireworks. It was rather difficult to explain to the boys.
This one takes a few readings to digest.

This can book can be used for grades first through fourth. This book can be used in Science when discussing animals. This book is about tigress who kill other animals so that their families can eat. The woman and herdsman are scared of hte tigress and gathers animals up when aware of tigress in the area. The herdsmen must save their animals, so they came up with a plan to save both their animals and their tigress. The herdsmen shoot firecrackers which scare the tigress and her cubs away.
This simple cautionary tale about the plight of the Bengal Tiger makes understanding the situation from both sides very simple. I know where the goat herders are coming from and I understand the tigers hunting the goats. Also, I see how unhelpful simply chasing the tigers back onto the reserve is with their sense of smell leading their hunting instinct to the goats.
Too mature for younger children but too simple for older children. This realistic story does little to explain time period, why the people do not kill the tigress, or what sanctuary means in this context. I think that children will either be confused or frightened. As for myself I just didn't enjoy the story or the artwork.
This book had breathtaking illustrations that made the animals seem real and they jump off of the page. I also enjoyed when the herdsman was first introduced he was facing away and then a few pages after when he is distraught the illustration is a close up of his face. The emphasis on his face helps the reader to emphasize and feel his pain.
This book has great illustrations and would be good to read to older kids I think. The Tigers kill a bull and the herders have to get rid of the tigers without killing them and so they do with fire crackers
I was not fond of this book. I could not get into the story. I thought it was rather boring. If I felt this way about the book I'm sure my students would feel the same way. I would not add this book to my classroom library.

I was not the biggest fan of this book because of how the story went but I did like the illustrations and all the colors that were shown. The imagery of the story is what made me pay attention and want to know what happens next.
