I haven’t hated a hero so much in a long time. Why? He’s not cruel. He’s not all that alpha or a womanizer. No, he’s indifferent to the heroine’s feelings. He’s reckless. He just doesn’t care about anyone from what I can tell. H is a real sociopath and it’s chilling.
This is a second chance story. Actress heroine fills in on producer hero’s movie at the last minute. H/h had a wild relationship that played out in the tabloids three years before. Because of their antics, heroine lost an endorsement deal and that woke her up to how self-destructive it was to be in relationship with such a reckless man. She left for London and hero did not follow.
Hero was with other people during their separation. Heroine was focused on her stage career and making a comeback in movies.
The tabloids are watching the H/h on location outside of Washington DC, so the H pretends to be a relationship with the leading lady while the h hangs out with the leading man. The H/h are still attracted and start a sexual relationship that they keep secret. Then the hero talks heroine into going to a local carnival where a photographer recognizes them. The heroine’s reputation is trash yet again since she “stole” the hero from the leading lady and she’s “cheating” on the leading man.
Hero does not care and tells heroine to brazen it out. He does not stand up for her - he just lets it play out.
It’s only after a few months for the heroine to calm down and advice from his brothers (they have their own stories in this series) to grovel that the hero thinks about getting the heroine back. He waits for the premiere of the movie to say words with his mouth that he is a changed man and it’s the heroine who has to make the grand gesture to announce the world they are a couple.
I didn’t believe a word of what the hero said since there are no actions to back up his sudden interest in marriage and commitment. This guy has loyalty only to himself and doesn’t feel a thing for the heroine. How do I know? We have his point of view! I think the author went to so far overboard in depicting a cool bad-boy hero that she veered into sociopath territory. It’s chilling. And the heroine’s despair of ever getting through him to him is real.
So this is angsty for all the wrong reasons. Poor heroine is up for a lifetime of heartbreak. Two stars for portraying a slow-mo trainwreck of a relationship.

Okay I have no idea what this book was supposed to make me feel. I truly believe the relationship fell apart because he didn't go after her three years ago. She made the right decision to leave him because their relationship was toxic and wanted to get better. He changed nothing over those three years. He still drank, partied and sexed it up with ow. It doesn't really say how many but she mentioned about how busy his love life was when they met up after the 3 years. She then thought to herself, I have had relationships before him that ended and after him that ended so we have a heroine who wasn't celibate while apart either it sounds like. But after that we never heard anymore about what happened while they were apart. So it's very vague but at least it sounded like they moved on. Then they meet up and instant lust hits them between the eyes again. She does love him though but he does not love her and it shows. He just didn't care about her feelings at all. Even when his brothers were badgering him the first time, he could never admit that she was any more special than any other one of his hookups. It took him to the end, but what i didn't like is that he blamed her for everything. He went on with his life and never thought about his part in any of it. It was a two way street but he wouldn't admit it. It was easier to just forget about her and move on. She finally had had enough. The scene in her trailer was great/tragic because she treated him like he always treated her. But it killed her to do it but she knew it had to be done. I cried a little actually as she was sitting in the car watching him stand at the trailer door admitting to herself that he didn't love her and she loved him again. Now it sounds like I should give this many stars but I just can't. I hated him and I really didn't understand her or her thoughts half the time. Actually the review above was how I think the author wanted us to feel and I put on boogenhagens rose colored glasses and tried. It still wasn't a great book for me. I hate that it was three years apart and I hate the H never grovelled. And he should have. Big time. Not something I will ever read again and nor would I recommend. I did try though.

The truth is except for a Suzanne Brockmann & Julie James Hollywood books haven't worked much for me, because I don't like them much, sadly this one didn't work that well for me because at the end I had a hard time buying the HEA and I felt these two hadn't really resolved their issues and needed individual therapy to deal with the effect their respective parents had had on them.
Three years ago these two were involved and both came from common backgrounds, royalty in their own right and that made them explosive, the media made a big thing of it & the heroine left to go to London and figure things out, now she is back and working in the hero's film. He isn't happy to see her back because she left without a word and now seems to be trying to be a different person.
Even when they talk she tries to ignore him. She blames him for her crash & burn and how media made them a big deal, as if she was totally out of control. Honestly, I never felt the hero had any emotional depth, words seemed to roll off him and even at the end of the book I never felt he dealt with his implied father issues and after acting so weirdly with each other, he says the three magic words and she is okay with dealing all the attention media will lavish on them, the rumors and speculation when earlier she shouted on him, for just taking the easy way out and leaving her to deal with all the gossip.
Honestly, I found her unreasonable as well, you started sleeping with him again, knowing if you were caught, it would become a big thing and when that happens you blame him. Either learn to stay away from him or be ready to deal with the consequences and if you didn't want to deal with the press why be an actress?
And I was never sure what they had was love, lust maybe.
I liked the epilogue though I am not satisfied how issues dangled weren't dealt with.

The heroine Caitlyn has just been cast in the hero Finn's latest movie however he is not at all happy about it. Cait and Finn were once Hollywood's hottest couple mostly knows for their wild antics, however their relationship, along with Cait's reputation, crashed and burned after one too many scandalous incidents. Cait has spent the last few years out of the limelight and rebuilding her career, but Finn is still bitter about the way Cait up and left him and refuses to believe that Cait's wild child days are over. It is clear that the desire between them is still as fierce as ever and despite all the on set politics and publicity stunts it is not long before Finn and Cait are acting on the passion. But with all the public and private history between them, as well as Cait wanting to relaunch her movie career, all they can ever have is a temporary fling. Even if their feelings for one another are much more than either of them are ready for.
I loved the subject and setting of this book and I think it is really well portrayed. The movie set setting is a great backdrop to the very intense nature of the hero and heroine's relationship, and there is a lot of honesty about some of the less exciting and less nice parts of the Hollywood lifestyle. The history between the hero and heroine is full of angst and well used without unnecessary lengthy flashbacks, this helped to cement all the tension between them.
I found the heroine's rather unpredictable mood swings and her habit of blaming the hero a little frustrating to read. But overall they worked great as a couple and there is some fantastic fun and sweet moments in their relationship.
Plenty of passion and a well written, engaging story.

“I think we’ve proved that you can raise hell and people will still respect you, but I can’t. It’s a horrible double standard, so I’ve worked very, very hard to clean up my act.”
The set-up for the oh-so-promising premise was there, but the story never even came close to being the “redemption” I was looking for. The HERO was the one who needed to get his head out of his ass, not the titular starlet.
The issue of double standards was mentioned several times through out the book, but never really addressed - a big missed opportunity to make this a worthwhile read.

Finn and Cait had a very explosive r/s three years previous. There was a big blow up (not sure what it was though. Sounded like she blamed him for some things) and then she left town. He thought she would be back after she pouted a bit perhaps, but she never returned. Now she is working on his movie and he can’t seem to leave her alone.
I did NOT get this one. At one point she even claimed that r/s in the bedroom w/ Finn weren’t all that fabulous or worth it, so why?
It would appear that nothing in their r/s was EVER his fault. NOTHING! Everything was ALWAYS her fault or her hang-up or even some outsider’s fault….just not Finn’s! She told him right off that she has changed and just wants a cleaner image, but he wants in her little lacies and continues to pursue her. Sure he tries to be discreet for her benefit, but he doesn’t exactly like that either. Although on her brief stint away she did learn that some things are her fault too and she needed to own up to them. Finn believes she carries a grudge against him because of the past, and perhaps she does, but he deserved some of it. He never felt that the publicity was that bad or that it nearly destroyed her “personally and professionally”. Yet, Finn buys in to the publicity too thinking that she went off to rehab! I thought he claimed he would have known if she needed that – words I suppose - just easy to say at the time. Finn truly came across as only caring about himself before, in the past, and continuing down that road when he and Cait meet up again.
So they do their thing and he still can’t understand why she lets what other people think of her get to her. She should be more like him and worry less, but when she attempts that it bothers him as well. He seems to want to be her world and yet she doesn’t treat him like she did before. Even one of his brothers points out how self-involved he is and he hurts other people, but typical Finn denies it. He doesn’t ever really change over the course of the story either.
So he makes his play at knocking her out of her new buttoned up character – perhaps a good thing, but he also agrees if it turns out bad that she can kill him. Well you just know how that is going down! Guess what? He is offended that she is POd! He is more concerned w/ the movie project and she should be too because it’s what her actor father always said – in PUBLIC, in private he said that the stars could ALWAYS be replaced! But Finn doesn’t get that. He never put her first. He is first, what he wants, and the film is important to him – therefore it should be important to her too! Her press important to her, he knew it, but it conflicted w/ what he wanted so….
Cait thinks on it, romanticizes his care of her in the past – changing history I suppose – and takes on more blame for things again. While Finn once again believes that he holds NO fault in anything and it’s just Cait’s warpedness at work here. Even his brothers believe he doesn’t take anything seriously. While whining to his brothers about her he manages to say her life and stories don’t involve HIM again, and again, and again. Then their advice: GROVEL!! Sounds good, but sadly disappointed.
It appeared that he didn’t chase her, or pine for her, instead he finished up his gift for grands and waited for her to appear back on his scene. Then he threatened her w/ possible bad publicity if she didn’t give him the time of day. Cait wasn’t asking for that much, she just wanted to come first w/ someone and I NEVER saw that happening w/ Finn. He can’t even do a grand gesture for her and he didn’t try to contact her after her last leaving of town. It’s like a repeat of what happened in the past; him waiting for her to come to her senses and calm down. He virtually blackmails her w/ her hang-up and she goes w/ him. They don’t seem to agree on anything, he kisses her, she begins to piddle….meant puddle and that’s it. Says the three magic words and she is his! I buy those glasses buy the barrels and they are NOT dark enough for this one!! Claims she can lean on him, but I must have missed that one too. My Blog: HarlequinJunkie Romance Reviews
‘Redemption of a Hollywood Starlet’ is a fast paced, enjoyable read; author Kimberly Lang did a fantastic job in keeping me engrossed throughout this book.
Cait and Finn are ex-flames with bad blood between them. Cait left for London 3 yrs ago on the heels of their disastrous affair. They meet again on the Set of “The Folly of the Fury” being produced by Finn when Cait is brought in as a replacement to the supporting actress.
Finn Marshall Hollywood producer is one handsome devil with a bad boy edge, just the kind of guy Cait doesn’t want to be associated with while she is trying to make a come back and rebuild her acting career.
The chemistry between ex- flames Finn and Cait sizzled off the pages. I really liked Caitlyn’s character she was no doormat, she was feisty, spunky and gave as good as she got; Cait was my idea of a great heroine.
All the characters in this series were very well developed and memorable. I loved the Marshall family, the whole American royalty setup and the “Grands”. There was great camaraderie and bickering between the brothers: Brady, Ethan and Finn; throw Lily and Aspyn into the mix and it made for one entertaining read.
I’ve really enjoyed reading the Marshall series and the last book in the series “Redemption of a Hollywood Starlet” was no exception.
If you haven’t read the Marshall series, I would highly recommend reading them.

I’ve always loved Ms. Kimberly Lang’s work, but I’m sorry to say that i don’t really fancy this one in particular. The pace is not only slow, but I feel that the one who really needs a redemption is the hero, not the heroine. It’s a dissapointing read, but i suppose if you want some exaggerating emotional ups and downs in your two hour read, then this book will be it. Sure, the scenes and everything is pastel perfect, but this book is not for me.

My overriding thought while reading this book was that I really didn't like the hero of the piece, Finn. Caitlyn, the heroine, constantly tells him that she's trying to better herself and re-start her career, and that he was part of the problem before, and instead of letting her move on an have a healthier relationship, he just decides to constantly bulldoze his way into her life just because he wants to. This is the kind of man who doesn't ever take no for an answer and not in a good way. It's not quite the abusive relationship that's seen in some other Mills and Boon novels, but at the same time, it's a relationship where one person is clearly putting their own needs and wants above the other and it made for uncomfortable reading.
Not completely awful, but not great either. I wouldn't recommend it. 2 stars.

Felt like Cait was a bit immature, blaming Finn for all her problems and then deciding he doesn't care and refusing to look at any other option - even after she admitted that she needed someone else to be the bad guy while she recovered. All that aside- I thought it was great how they clicked and I like that Finn was a producer not an actor because we all know that's been done to death and Finn and Cait really clicked and are great as a couple.

Before I get into my review of Redemption of a Hollywood Starlet, I need to make some things clear. First, this is my first Harlequin romance (I know!), and second, I read more paranormal romances than anything else, so this was a step out of my element. Redemption of a Hollywood Starlet is a Harlequin Presents Extra romance, which means the hero is ridiculously good-looking, rich and falls for his woman hard.
Kimberly Lang sets the stage in Hollywood, where the rich and famous play and work. Her hero and heroine are from absurdly rich families with huge political and entertainment ties. Their world is much more different from ours: We're talking scandals, public embarrassment, humiliation, paparazzi … and fleeing the country. Which is exactly what Caitlyn Reece did after the blow-up between her and then-flame Finn Marshall. I read this book in less than two hours and was absorbed from start to finish. I don't know what I was expecting when I picked it up, and to be honest I don't think the cover or the back blurb do the story justice. Yes, it was quick. Yes, it was light. But that was what made it so enjoyable. I wanted a break from reality, and this gave me the perfect excuse to just veg out, not think so hard and just thoroughly enjoy being.
I'm eager to pick up the first two books in this series that deal with Finn's two older brothers … who are just as rich and gorgeous and probably as arrogant as Finn is!

If you are looking for a mini vaca from reality and love the hot rich alpha hero paired with a sensitive strong heroine I highly recommend this book. Hey we can't all have vamps and weres all the time

The last of the Marshall brothers trilogy and it's a cracker. A great end to the series, moving the action to a Hollywood movie set as youngest brother Finn (and the only one not to be involved in the family business of politics) is a movie producer. The heroine Caitlin is a young actress trying to reestablish her career integrity after a disasterous affair with Finn three-years before that got them both all the wrong attention in the tabloids, but while that virtually destroyed her career he came away from it unscathed... At least that's what Caitlin thinks (and Finn wants to think too) and she's naturally resentful - especially when the old passion between them begins to spark again and Finn isn't going to do a damn thing to stop it.
I loved the early establishing scenes in the book, Ms Lang doesn't pull her punches when these two first meet, there is a lot of animosity there and we get to see it in some smart, sassy dialogue but also in its greater emotional complexity. Because what this story is really about is the two of them growing up and learning how to have a grown-up relationship (and not just in the sex sense). Cait has to realise that she's entitled to have flaws, that all you can do is your best and that tabloid intrusion isn't something she should kow-tow to. While Finn, a master of shrugging off anything in his life that is emotionally complex has to learn to actually delve beneath the surface, not just of Caitlin's feelings but also his own.
The book really hots up in the second half and during some seriously hot 'booty call' scenes and a really sweet and funny and exhilarating trip to a funfair we begin to see them both falling in love - and fighting it, cos there's still all that other stuff to resolve, something they're both shying away from until they hit the headlines again (and not in a good way).
I also adored the scenes between Finn and his brothers Ethan and Brady... Ms Lang so knows how to do male banter!
I blagged this book off Ms Lang in exchange for room and board for a couple of days in London... I so got the better half of that deal!

4 STARS This is a fun romance. Thier are a few sex scenes that I skipped over. I enjoyed the story line and the characters. I did wonder if Finns brothers had books with their story. Caitlyn Reese has been working and taking acting classes thier for the last few years. She wants to make a comeback. Her parents are stars in thier own rights. Her star has grown while Caitlyn was working in theater in London. To keep the press from hounding the movie over Caitlyn and Finn working together. They decided to have Caitlyn and Jason Elkins another star pal around and let the press see them. Finn also escorted Naomi around and the press was playing that up too. Especially Naomi. I seriously hated the hero, Finn, which made it really hard to enjoy the book. The heroine had her issues, but she seemed like she was at least aware of them and was working to try to deal with them. Finn, on the other hand, shrugged everything off and was so self-absorbed and such a jackass in general to the heroine, I just never believed in anything he had to say. I don't even think he ever realized what he had done wrong.
On the flip side, I really liked the epilogue. It was cute and appropriate to the story. I just wish I liked the characters enough to believe in their HEA.

The parts of this book I liked were because I liked Cait and her story and her journey. If this was women's fiction, and just about her, I would have liked it. However, this is romance, and I hated the "romance" in it. Finn was a dick, didn't deserve Cait, and treated her like crap. He didn't redeem himself to me and I glossed over his supposed grovel because it was BS. I didn't believe that the relationship would last, or that it was good/healthy for her.

This is probably the best short-form romance novel I've encountered so far. It was well-plotted and the characters were very likeable.

I haven't read anything from this author but definitely will seek out her other titles. Well developed characters and humorous dialogue kept my interest.
