An orange creature hatches from an egg and goes in search of his mother among the nearby dinosaurs. It's only when he's traveled quite a distance that he sees a place that may be home...
My nephew ADORES dinosaurs... so when we found this one about this cute little orange dinosaur we knew we needed to read it. The art is quite compelling with simple backgrounds but some textures in the background. I especially loved the design of the somthingosaur... The little bug that travels with the little orange guy is too cute as are the little details like the goats and the lost egg sign (which my nephew noticed right away!)
The story is nothing new. It follows other classic lost and found mommy books. I did LOVE the ending and the fact he's not a somthingosaur at all, but a dragon! My nephew really loved the flaming part of the end and WOWed when we got to that point. The end and the art made for a fun read... BUT as such there really isn't a great message here. Perhaps that mom is a great person to go home to...
Neither of us were really fans of the awkward rhyming and there were times my nephew flat didn't get what we going on. If your child LOVES dragons and dinosaurs this can be a fun book for them... but it fits rather particular tastes and can be hard to understand, though the mom and child is a symbol that kids can really get behind!
BOTTOM LINE: Dinosaurs + Dragons and a Returning Home story...

Very cute book with wonderful adorable illustrations. The ending is sweet and the journey is great. Some parts of the book rhyme and it flows real great.
Tämä oli ihan hauska, mutta ei erityisen jännittävä tarina. Kirjassa pieni poikanen kuoriutuu yksin munasta ja lähtee etsimään äitiään dinosaurusten ja muiden olioiden joukosta.
Little Something is all lost and alone, follow his journey as he finds his way home. Something's epic quest takes him through many lands which the artist renders with various textures and colours. Between this atmospheric approach, and the writing, even though his facial design limits his expressions, there are no problems understanding what he is thinking and feeling.
For the most part, the rhyme is of high quality and amusing, even though a few of the choices are barely similar in sound. Sound too is given a special role, with fun words like crickle, and roar appearing in larger sizes to mimic the volume. It is a shame it is not used more consistently.
Throughout there is the question of what type of dinosaur Something is, and the end provides a clever and unexpected answer. The story itself is straightforward enough, and in reality not much actually happens. Most of the book shows a series of clips of his journey, but it does very well to draw you in nevertheless. For older readers, little details like the lost egg sign, shadowy suspense, or a goat being "rumbled" off the mountain (he has a band-aid a few pages later too) add extra depth to this funny, yet serious tale of a child looking for his mother.
Where the dinosaurs roam a little creature hatches from an egg. This book goes on a little adventure where the creature tries to find its mother.
My favourite part of the pictures in the book is when "He wanders the deserts, the swamps and the plains. He travels through blistering heat and trough rains. He visits the places that no dino knows."
If you're audience love stories about dinosaurs and dragons, they are going to like this one. When an egg hatches in a lonely swamp the somethingosaur that emerges cannot find his mummy. He asks several creatures if they are his mummy, but the dinosaur and the mega-dinosaur are most definitely NOT his mummy. After a long journey he spies a strange cave with even stranger noises coming from inside. Is this where he'll find his mummy? The rhyming text is cute, loving and yet still humorous, and the illustrations are a perfect match.
The Somethingosaur is a harrowing tale of dire circumstances. The trials met by our young heroic friend would have easily defeated even persons of vast resilience. Compelling with danger and strangers in abundance.
In an epic tale of homecoming and soul searching, the young somethingosaur grows into it's own person and strides with confidence through the final pages of the book. He/she/it never loses sight of their goal and will scale the highest peaks, cross the most barren of lands until the truth is known.
A little somethingosaur hatches out of his egg and goes looking for his mother. When he finds her, he discovers that he is not a dinosaur but a dragon instead. Really cute, rhyming works well, nice pictures, many 2-page spreads make it great for storytime, interesting layouts and good use of white space. I really like the use of different fonts and font sizes for emphasis.
A itty-bitty, baby dwagon lost and all awone in the land of big meany dinosaurs. Our hatchling must transform into a hero and endeavor on a quest of Homeric proportions to confront the mother who has abandoned him.
I think that this book is a good story time selection for pre-k to first grade with simple but compelling art and a narrative that isn't too overly burdened with rhyme.
My 5 year old really enjoyed this one - enough to read it twice straight after each other. Great pictures - we really love the little beetle, who silently adds to the story, and the cameo appearance of the 'three billy goats gruff' which we have also been reading lately.
I really enjoyed this story! Its quirky rhymes and clever reveal make the story one that is enjoyable for young and older readers alike. The rhythm and flow of the story make it easily read aloud or to oneself, and the characters are extremely likable.
Just read this book to Baby Saurus and even though he's only 4 months old he actually seemed to pay attention and got really excited looking at the pictures. It's a great rhyming book and it was just so cute!
So Cute! Has a clever and fun rhyme/rhythm. There are fun things to spot on each page (little bug that shows up on almost every page, deers, etc.) And of course, dinosaurs/dragons are always a good idea.
Little creature has hatched, lets call it a Somethingosaur until we discover what he/she is as they travel around searching for their mommy. Cute story with a very happy ending.
A Somethingosaur hatches one day to discover that he is alone in the wild. Where are his parents? He thus goes on a quest, searching high and low for his mother among much larger, unrelated dinosaurs. He searches lands that no dinosaur has traversed before, coming to a rather treacherous looking mountain. Little Somethingosaur hesitates at first, but finally decides to scale this peak lest he find his mother up there. Alas! The Somethingosaur encounters a fire-breathing creature that resembles him more than the dinosaurs before. Could this dragon be his mother after all?
The rhymes and illustrations in this story are adorable and fun, making this an entertaining read for both story times and early readers.
