Imagination Shaped: Old Testament Preaching in the Anglican Tradition

Rate this book
Professor Davis studies five important biblical preachers within the Anglican tradition to illustrate the unique kind of disciplined imagination and poetic discourse that are hallmarks of this tradition.
Following an introduction to the cultural changes and contexts within which these five preachers lived and worked, Davis provides selected and unabridged sermon texts, lightly annotated. She concludes the book by drawing the connection between contemporary homiletics and biblical studies, thereby offering a solution to the so-called crisis in much of today's preaching, that is, its impoverished understanding of the meaning and uses of scripture.
