This is the first book I've read from this author. I was slightly bummed that the dog is mentioned so rarely until closer to the end but the author and story line are great. I found it to be an enjoyable read and have already picked up some of her other books to read now as well.

Still enjoying the series but some editing problems. Book one has her with dark hair, book two with black curly hair, book three with long chestnut hair, book four with black hair and then she is called a brunette. Nagging little thing but the only hint of what your heroine looks like is this tiny little point and they cannot get it right.

Well written, but just 3 stars because of two things.
One. The amateur sleuth who in all regards is a sensible, clever woman randomly does a very risky and strange thing by snooping in an empty office and answering someone's phone for no reason!
Two. In a book of 184 pages, the murder takes place on page 96. I prefer my cozy mysteries to deal the death up front as the main attraction. Not to set up a convoluted story line where the death is a side issue.
Plus, for a dog lovers mystery, there was not enough dog!

The sunnier and more fun of the ...dog writers. Not many characters are fully spelled out, and the story is a bit simplistic, but its fun and compelling. Dog, Jake, solves an old political murder and helps nail current political sleezeballs. DPL book.

I did enjoy this read more than prior reading by this same author. In all; Mayoral hopeful Morton Slake has the morals of an alley cat—and when his girlfriend was found dead, Jackie and Jake prove that every dog has his day again; in that they solved the murders and found the guilty party mobster.

Melissa Cleary's dog mystery series is worth seeking out, and this 3rd book was highly enjoyable. Her characters are developing well, the stories are plausible and well written, and each of her books are fun, quick reads.

Whew!! Definitely better than #2–action & better suspense moved the plot along as well as cute side story of possible jealousy in romantic rivals. Still discovering quite a few editorial errors.

This was the first one of these that I have read. I found it to be a good read. I didn't like that the book was half over before there was a corpse but I didn't feel that the ending was rushed either.
