After losing control of his truck on a dark road, Nicholas Lasher finds himself on a cattle ranch in the late nineteenth century with a mesmerizing Indian named Bear Claw. Bear Claw claims Nicholas's body and heart, and nothing has ever felt more right. Their time together ends badly again and again, but no matter what life they're living, these men dance to the tune of love as they search the centuries for their happy ending. A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2012 Daily Dose package "Time Is Eternity."
Chelle Dugan is the mother of two children and lives in the Southwest. She has been an avid reader her whole life but had never written her own stories until she fell in love with Annie Proulx's Brokeback Mountain. Her first stories were brought to life with help from her long-distance friend Terry and her daughter, as well as Chelle's love for little mountain towns and snow.
Have you ever had the feeling that you’re just stumbling through life, not really sure which way is forward and which is back and hoping for someone to show you the way? The two main characters in this story go through exactly that experience – only across more than one life. They have a lesson to learn and until they do, there is no way out. Reminiscent of Groundhog Day, a 1993 movie directed by Harold Ramis, we actually get to watch Nicholas and Tibbs live the crucial parts of their lives - again and again and again.
Nicholas is the narrator and it is mainly his thought process we follow. He begins as a total coward who isn’t even aware of doing anything wrong by not standing up for the man he loves. Or, at least, is drawn to in every life. His gradual realization that more may be going on is what provides the common thread.
I’ll admit it: this story is weird and confusing and it took me quite a while to figure it out. BUT there is a reason for this, and the message behind it, that of hope, couldn’t be clearer. I did like watching the small changes that gradually creep in as the main characters begin to learn. If you like slightly weird temporal twists, if the idea of second (and third, etc.) chances intrigues you, and if you enjoy comparing situations that look the same but aren’t then you will probably like this story.

What is true love? Is it being there when everything is going great and life is easy? Or is it waiting through very bad times for someone to realize how much you can be together? In this short story, Nick starts off in a car accident, where the last thing he sees before he fades is a beautiful Native American man holding his hand. As the story progresses, we get to see Nick and Tibbs meeting up in different places in time. They are a couple, but Tibbs is much better at wanting to just be together and damn the consequences. Nick just is never ready. He ALMOST is at one point, ready to give up a military career in order to find Tibbs (after he dumps the man), but this time Tibbs is gone. I really liked this unique twist on time travel. While Tibbs is the braver one, you can see why Nick is fearful. Times where it is life threatening or career ruining to be gay? It’s a difficult step out of that closet. I loved the ending, as well, cute and sweet.
Sorry about my previous review - a case of seriously mixing up some of these Time stories from Dreamspinner. This is a pretty good one. Nothing unusual, just a nice story of a second chance, which left me with a smile on my face. I did find some of the dirty talk a bit primitive, and it occasionally made me stop and say 'WTF?'. But in context, perhaps okay, if still very earthy, to say the least. “I’m gonna splash your insides with my juice...." just doesn't sound sexy to me. But provided you can weather that, the plotline is okay and the writing not bad at all. Sorry again to the author. I know it's upsetting to get bad reviews and I wish that I, too, could travel in time to stop myself writing it. I'd give it about 2.75 stars, so that's a 3.
Well, well, finally finished the whole series!!!!! I'm happy, because you see, by the end of it I was getting bored. The whole series had thirty something books of which only a few were really good and worth the time. Some were good but not that good, some needed to be a longer story in order to show how great they could be and the rest were just simply not ... my cup of tea. Some were confusing.
A main character has a car accident and in his unconscious state, his mind reveals him, his own other past lives. Where he didn't stood by a man he loved because he was scared. And now they can embrace their new chance of happiness. Really weird shorty.
