At the height of the Cold War, a famous East German opera diva is about to defect to the West. Michael Reece, a veteran British agent, has to travel to Cologne to meet her - and stop her. In doing so he finds himself up against a figure from his past, someone who had a profound influence on the man Reece has become. Their confrontation will determine the future of the world.

Quick spy thriller, that tells the story by jumping between a few time lines. The present tells the story of the mission, an agent trying to stop a defection, with flash backs to his past. The final time line is set a few days in the future. This is a nice read, with a few twists, can be a bit confusing in places due to timelines.
