Kagome, now in college, discovers the tale of Sesshomaru and Rin. Grief can be a prison, but the bonds of love are not easily broken. What is the truth behind fairytales?
It says something when you vividly remember and adore something you read a decade ago and still worship it enough to atrociously miss the good ol' days of epic fanfiction. In all sincerity, if this isn't the best Inuyasha fanfiction (or at the very least in the top 3 EVER), then i don't know which one it is.
I've always shipped Ssshoumaru and Kagome for some reason i have not discovered even to this day, and this cemented my undying love for this pair as one of the best out there. Trust me, I'm a mean reviewer and critic. If i don't like what i read, i'm being ruthless about it.
But this... THIS!
Trust me on this one, all the stellar and adoring reviews and comments you have ever read on every platform in regards to this fanfiction are as real as tiger stripes. Sesshoumaru and Kagome are so realistic and the plot just drags you in more and more that even people who hated sesskag simply idolized this piece of heaven despite their personal dislike of the couple.
I forgot how many times i have read "Tales From the House of the Moon" and "Fugue" and they still get me every time. I end up a sobbing mess at the end of course and i go through an entire toilet paper roll as far as tear wiping is concerned, but that's irrelevant. Anyone who has ever read or written fanfiction knows how excruciatingly difficult it is to somehow maintain the original personalities of the characters from the anime. Well, there you have it, folks. If you're sick of OOC figures, then you have just found the perfect diamond because somehow, utterly and beautifully you have the same characters with their intact way of being and they still fit together like two pieces of puzzle. For you skeptics out there that think fanfiction can never rise up to the glory of a legitly published book, you are so wrong, sweet summer children. This is the perfect example and i don't even care that i'm praising it so obnoxiously much. My only regret to this day was that this was never published because i absolutely needed (i still do) in my library. I don't want to be dramatic, but this really is a masterpiece of the old days when there was such a fever for Inuyasha and Naruto fanfiction, with so many utterly brilliant people writing. Still have my fanfiction.net account and have been checking it every 2 months for 7 years for updates. Not much success with the oldies but goldies unfinished masterpieces unfortunately. And when you finish reading this, read Fugue next and go on another train wreck. It will ruin you, but it will be worth it. That's why i keep rereading these every damn year.
This is, hands down, the most extraordinary book ever written by a (then) unpublished author. It is riveting from page one and the excitement builds the entire length of the story. The plot is complex and twisty. The characters are well developed and realistic. Subtle humor is sprinkled liberally throughout. I've read this book at least 11 times and will continue reading again and again. It's like a good wine - it just keeps getting better.
It says something about a book when, even 10 years after reading it, you still remember it with the fondness of a dear friend. The reviews posted before are not an exaggeration; this is a divinely written book, fanfiction or otherwise. Resmiranda has achieved the impossible - she has breathed life into already established characters in such a way that she has made them her own. If you are an Inuyasha fan, and even if you aren't, I recommend everybody to read this. She has masterfully dealt with topics like loss, rejection, heartbreak, death, dreams, goals and love in such a manner that every time I read it I find a new thing that speaks to my current situation in life. I grew up with Resmiranda, and I hope to grow old with her works, all dear and beloved friends. As should every good story be to its readers; a friend you can revisit time and time again.
"You never told me what I smelled like," she said in the quiet of the chamber. She looked at Sesshomaru, who sat only a few feet away from her, further into the darkness. He didn't move.
"Did I not?" he asked quietly. She thought he sounded amused.
"You didn't. Though if I smell like wet fur when I purify, I'd rather not know."
"It's different than that," he said. "You do not smell like any scent that you can detect."
She frowned. "What do you mean?"
He shrugged. "Inuyasha smelled like purple on green," he told her after a second's contemplation. "That is the best way to describe it."
"I don't know what purple on green smell like."
"It is the most accurate description, though the combination of purple and green is not a plesant one."
"oh," she said. Against her cheek the soft fur tickled her lips as she burrowed a little deeper into her blankets. "Do I want to know what I smell like?" she asked him, suddenly nervous for reasons she did not enterely understand.
For a long moment he said nothing. Then he opened his mouth.
"Waterfalls," he told her. "You smell like sunlight on waterfalls."
He fell silent. For some irrational reason, Kagome thought she might cry.
He was still for another long moment before he stirred again. "You should get some rest," he said quietly. "We depart again tomorrow."
Kagome almost complied, but paused. "Thunderstorms," she said instead. She saw him lift his head, open his golden eyes, and stare at his feet.
Kagome licked her lips. "You smell like thunderstorms to me."
In the flickering orange light, she tought she saw him smile, before he closed his eyes again, letting his head droop a little, obscuring his face from her with his gilded hair. "Sleep, Kagome," he said, voice so quiet she thought it might be light enough to float.
One of the best- possibly the best- InuYasha fanfiction pieces I have read. I was able to quickly get lost into the world Resmiranda built and had a hard time pausing in my reading. The characters were kept to their original identities and characteristics and simply built upon, showing unbelievable depth. Sesshomaru and Kagome are my personal favorite pairing, but too often the characters are made completely unbelievable- Resmiranda kept them as they were but found a way that they would be paired together nonetheless.
In depth, wonderful writing. I would recommend this story to any InuYasha fan.
Amazing world building and build up. You really are sucked up into the wod and your heart cries for Sesshomaru. But the ending fell flat for me. I felt dragged out until it ended. And then it kept dragging it out to the end where things all tie together again and try to make sense. The story lost its magic at the end.
I personally did not like the way this ended but I do have to admit it is one of the better stories that I have read. In my opinion towards the end of the story, certain events just ruined everything for me, if it ended the way it ended then what was the point of the entire the whole story?
WITH THAT SAID, I do appreciate the writing, the character development and the structure of the story.
It's not often a fanfic from my high school years comes back to my mind, but this one does frequently. I was never even a fan of Sess/Kag and it's still not a favourite pairing, but this work honestly is a beloved exception. An incredible, well planned plot, incredible character development that stayed true to canon, and emotionally riveting with some well done, well loved tropes. A classic.
One of the best fanfictions I have ever read. Really great writings. This fanfic is something you would want to re-read multiple times. Great character development, great plot twist, etc Everything about it is great.
This really captures the melancholy of growing from a teenager to an adult. So few books get this right, and it makes this an especially emotional read. This is not a happy story, but it is a good one.
I have a really soft place in my heart for this story. This fic was finished just as I was starting out on ff, and I was still very young. I didn't understand the hype, and I was too young to appreciate the work. Now almost ten years later I finally read this story. And it's funny to me looking back as a child I couldn't understand the themes in TFTHOTM, and now as an adult I understand it so well this book moves me to tears. This story feels like going home and coming full circle all at once. Inuyasha was a huge part of my childhood, and this story certainly was as well.
Usually, I don't grant fanfiction anywhere near the status of a book (although there are some things out there that don't deserve to be called books AT ALL), but this one happened to be one of the few exceptions in which the entire tale is brilliant. Inuyasha fanfic. And it's got all that it needs.
Best book I've ever read hands down. It is a breathtakingly beautiful piece. I've read this many years ago a few times and even own it in hard copy probably the only one that exists because my friend made me one from a special website. Everyone who I let read it loves it too!
I have no words. If this is not the best fanfic of its fandom, it is at least in the top 5, and that's being modest. Gripping, heart rending, epic, beautiful. Doesn't matter if this is not your fandom, or not your ship - this story is not to be missed by anyone!
