This was rather interesting. I'm not sure how historically accurate it is, but the story was very well written and the characters where just great. Loved all the Cree, and other native american, mythology. Was a little unsure how much i should believe the 'magic' here, since part of me keeps thinking "yes, if you don't eat for three days and walk nonstop, i'm pretty sure anyone would start hallucinating freaky wolves and taciturn ghosts." Oh well. I don't think I needed to believe it, really, just believe that Jensen did. Anyways, it was an enjoyable story and I even teared up a bit at the end there until I was sure that I wasn't going to be left all sad and shit.

So I probably have to reread this again before adding a review but from what I remember it was awesome. It's epic, in length and in plot. And the contrast between the two cultures and the difference on how they treat or view homosexuality is intriguing.

Updated Review:

The reason why I love historical fiction is that I always wonder how people live back in those days, and this delivers nicely. Idk how accurate it is but the description of the daily lives of the British soldiers and the Cree Indians is fascinating to read. I think it's actually the best part of the story for me.

When you are a two spirit, you apparently can choose which of your masculine or feminine spirits will be the dominant one and it fascinates me that despite being a tough warrior, Dream Walker chose the feminine part as his dominant spirit and that Jensen chose the masculine one as a warrior as his dominant spirit. They do change roles in bed, if you're curious ;)

I found a pet peeve but I manage to ignore by reasoning that it is there because of the highly emphasized two spirit nature, that means a person having both masculine and feminine spirits.

I keep trying to guess who will end up with who in what I call the love square that is Michael, Kills Many, Little Bird, and Runs Like Rabbit.

Michael/Talks with Bear is my fav character<3

I still think it's epic in length and plot. There is psychic powers, dream walking and seer abilities but what remains the most intriguing part for me is the differences in culture. Sometimes it's a bit melodramatic even for me, but overall I love this story.

An excellent J2 historical fanfic, loved the clever epilogue, beautiful artwork too. Dean is a disgraced British redcoat exiled to seventeenth century Prince Rupert’s Land (now Canada) following his punishment for 'intent to buggery.' Captured by native Americans, he comes to meet the magnificent 'Dream Walker' and learns what it is to be a 'two-spirit.'

“Hush, nitiha. I will become your warrior, and you shall yield to my body, as willing and tender as a woman. My life will beat inside of you and I will be able to see your fear and banish it.
