If you want to fall for a gangster, read this book. John Rain is on a mission to carve out territory for this growing criminal empire and has no regrets about who has to be taken out in order to reach his goal. He is characterized as being a very likable, loyal guy...you just don't want to be one of his criminal rivals. After being nearly killed he ends up being taken care of by pediactrc nurse, Trissa. He makes a deal with hospital admin to make sure that she is his full time nurse, which pisses her off. John wants her and makes every effort to make sure she knows he wants her. Bad part: Trissa doesn't know what her new lover does for a living and John doesn't really want her to find out. Throw in a jealous ex-wife, John's daughters being kidnapped, the Feds, and a brutal killing spree and this makes for a really. Wasn't so sure that I would like this book but it urned out to be really good and left room for more....
The main character is a person you like in spite of his less than honorable way of making a living. He is very loyal to those around him, ruthless, yet not without compassion for his enemies. Definitely a dark, edgy kind of read.
