Move on. It’s just a chapter in the past. Don’t close the book. Just turn the page.
Audrey Parker is trying to do just that. Move on. Audrey, Fallon’s younger sister, has dated jerk after jerk. Levi Moss (current jerk) being one of the worst. Audrey is a little insecure about somethings. She doesn’t feel like she deserves better. She wants that fairy tale ending, but isn’t sure if it will happen for her.
Prince Charming wouldn’t want a defective Cinderella.
After she and Levi break things off... again, she goes out to Fallon’s bachelorette party to have a good time. She has too much of a good time and ends up meeting a guy. Tall, blonde, young and handsome. And this guy wants her. She wakes up the next morning feeling a bit ashamed, but she moves on. She figures she will never see this guy again, so no big deal.
Tate Oder has been in America less than a year. As a 21 year old, rookie Assassin’s goalie, he is not like the average guy his age. He wants to meet someone, settle down, have kids eventually. He is best friends with Lucas Brooks, and lives in the condo next door to Audrey, although he has never met her. When he does, its a shock! The beautiful girl he picked up at the bar the other night, that he hasn’t been able to get out of his head... thats Audrey.
Tate wants to pursue a relationship with Audrey, but she thinks he is too young for her. Not only that, but Audrey doesn’t want to hold Tate back. They soon become good friends. Eating cupcakes together, watching DVR etc. They have so much chemistry. Tate wants it to be more, and deep down so does Audrey, she is just afraid. After some time, she realizes its worth a shot.

Audrey and Tate both have things in their pasts that have left scars. Neither of them are very open about these things. And it effects their relationship...
Empty Net was my favorite of the Assassin’s books so far! Loved Tate and Audrey! Audrey was so relatable- although I wanted to slap her silly at times for Levi and Tate was just the best guy! It was great to see Elli and Shea, and Fallon and Lucas as well! Looking forward to the next book in this story, Audrey’s best friend Piper!

3.0 stars. Really wanted to bump this one up to 3.5 stars but just couldn’t do it. From the rave reviews I’m evidently in the minority, I liked the story and love the authors Hero’s but just can’t stand the heroines. Audrey rounds out the line up as #3 of wimpy, whiney, wishy-washy ladies in this series. The Hero in this romance is Tate, a young hockey player from Sweden. He’s so sexy and sweet and thinks the moon rises and sets in Audrey, but she’s torn. Should she go back to the jerk, Levi that uses her for sex who calls her a “fat whore” who she’s so in love with, or possibly make a go with Tate, a guy who treats her special? Hmmmm, decisions, decisions. See what I mean??? Drives me batshit crazy. Now I ask you, what self respecting woman would continue to take text messages/phone calls and go back to a guy who referred to her as a “fat whore”?!?!?!?! I found myself speed reading parts and skipping others during a lot of Audrey’s dialogue as soon as I realized she follows the same pattern as the other heroines. Audrey goes back and forth with Levi while he’s awful to her, insults her and yanks her around all the while she waxes on about her love for him is just plain hard to read, and more than I could stand. Lots of drama here, and again I liked the story and the writing style and was rooting for Tate to find his HEA (I was hoping not with Audrey, but as she’s the main female character that’s just the way this story rolls). I have to admit that I totally disliked Elli in bk 1 (Taking Shots) but as she shows up in bks 2 & 3 after overcoming her whiney ways and stands up for herself/takes charge I like her much better. As with Elli, Fallon from bk 2 (Trying To Score) has now become a stand up girl and has a part in this story. It appears once these leading ladies finally figure out their true love exists in the featured hero, Wa-La….their annoying insecurities are cured.
What did I like about this bk? The good parts of this story included Tate, of course, who is one hot heart melter as well as any scene with Shea (Elli’s hub) who I simply adore as well as Lucas (Fallon’s hubster) and their son Aiden who is written so cute you just want to give the little guy a hugging squeeze. Did miss Grace (Shea’s sister) who didn’t really have a part to play in this bk. A shame since she’s one awesome chick along with her great guy hubby, James, and their 2 sweet kids. TA writes her side characters well and those I do enjoy. Also as a side note this bk had a much better handle on the typos/spelling errors than the first 2 bks.
The series does continue, next up is Piper, Harper’s sister who ends this bk in quite the predicament and the mystery is on as to just who she falls for in bk 4.

4 Friend-Zoned Stars.
Audrey always make bad decisions in her life: she’s stuck to a job she hates and doesn’t have the courage to do what she really loves, she feels like a stranger in her own life and the worst part? She is a hopeless romantic who dreams with Prince Charming and a happily ever after, but always end up falling in love with the frog. After another ruined relationship where she was mistreated by the guy, she drowns her sorrows on alcohol and end up having a one night stand with a stranger that she can’t get out of her head.
Tate is still grieving the loss of his family and playing for the Assassins where he made a new family his helping. But there’s something missing. He wants to find love, the real kind of love who lasts a lifetime and makes families. But he isn’t being successful, women apparently only want him because his career. And then one night he has a night with a beautiful stranger that will change everything.
When Audrey and Tate finally find each other again, they realize that their lives are entwined and they aren’t strangers anymore. And Tate finally found what he was looking for.
Tate wants Audrey, he knows that she’s the one and he’s decided to fight for her. But after so many heartbreak she can’t trust no one and wants to remain only friends with him.
How can Tate win a heart that refuses to be won? And how can Audrey find out that in order to have her prince charming, she has to getting out of the friend-zone?
Rating: 4 Stars.
Storyline: A sweet and romantic story with sexy hockey players. What more can we ask for?
I love how the author always create a friendship between the characters before the rest, it turns their love much more real and the story more appealing.
Writing Style: Third person, dual POV. Amazingly written and completely engaging.
Character Development: I loved Tate, completely loved him. But that always seems to happen with the hero on this series, they are all sexy charming players with a heart of gold and completely determined to get the girl when they know she is the one. But Audrey… oh Audrey. I wanted to slap some sense into her through most of the book. I don’t know what is it, but the heroines in these books are always frustrating and insecure! Yeah, towards the end we end up liking them, but it’s kind of a miss hit on these books

Really enjoyed all three books in the Assassins series - the third book did not disappoint I think the fact that the female main characters are frustrating just adds to the story telling plus the male main characters more than make up for it!! - seriously can't not wait for book four! Loved it.

I am such a HUGE fan of Toni Aleo. She has quickly become one of my favorite authors!!
WOW...Each book I read in the Assassins series only makes me love this series that much more!!! Empty net might be my favorite of the series so far. But it is tough because I loved each book in different ways.
I have been waiting anxiously to read this book when I found out that it was Audrey's. I loved her in Trying To Score and wanted to see her get her HEA that she so desperately wanted and deserved.
I loved that the characters from the previous books continued through this story as well as the introduction of new characters. Oh how I hated Levi!! Tate *sighs* I just loved Tate and Audrey together and I love the direction that Toni took their story. So good!!!
This was just a great read!! It was a heart-warming, sad, funny, sweet story with a great H/h that you desperately wanted to see get their HEA. It was such an entertaining read that I did not want to see end. It was so good that I had trouble putting it down. Fantastic epilogue that hinted to the story in the next book and definitely had me wanting more!!!
Thanks Toni for such a great story and a great series. So much fun to read. Another reread for me and definitely has a place in my keeper pile. BEST OF THE BEST rating.

4 Woot Woot, Steamin' Stars
I am a gal who believes in glass half full. I read the first two of the series and they seemed to progress with strengths in a lot of parts; strong and hot guys, hockey and the desire for true happiness wrapped in the goal of family. This is the third in the series and I feel it was a testimony to the author's growth over the writing of this franchise. Her women don't really connect for me; however in this installment, she wrote a compelling story with less of the repetitive drama and more of the smokin' hot coupling between the main characters.
This read much faster than the previous ones with story lines dealing with mental and physical abuse in relationships, family loss and the insecurity of not being shaped as today's media darlings. They were handled well and worked.
So by giving the series another shot... it hit its goal with me.

AHHHHHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I can't be done, this can't be over!!!! It's too good! I can't put into words how much I love this book. I really think this is Toni's best ever! Seriously! You all know how much I love Lucas and I didn't think Toni could top him, esp with Tate being a charming (I find them boring) but boy oh boy was I wrong! It was like me thinking Cars Land was going to be lame!!! This BLEW me away! And I kinda need more now! :D You get a standing ovation from me lady!

Empty Net by Toni Aleo
Ok first I have to say that this is probably one of the first reviews I was dying to write and post, but due to my blog tour I had to wait till today to post it. So Toni Aleo is now one of my favorite authors. This woman knows how to write a hot romance story. Her characters are strong women who are independent, work hard and one day hope to find love. And the bonus part of this series is that it revolves around hockey. And who in the world cannot read a book around hot sexy hockey players.
So I suggest anyone who is reading this review to go purchase all 3 books in this series because they are fantastic. Toni’s writing makes your heart thump and blood flow fast, and it brought tears to my eyes, I fell in love with this entire series and all her characters. When you finish one book you want another, I am praying the next book is already written and being edited lol..... I will continue to stalk Toni so I know when it is being released.
So let’s talk about Empty Net, we meet up with Audrey (who we meet in Trying To Score) who is Fallon’s sister. Audrey has been in a relationship with Levy who is a total jerk, and we want her to end things with him instantly. This is hard for her as Audrey loves Levy but she knows he is not any good and their relationship is very one sided.
Then of course we are introduced to Tate (hot goalie), new in town and he is also mending his own type of heartbreak. In a change meeting Audrey and Tate end up meeting in a bar and spend the night together. Audrey and Tate both know that they are each other one night stand and really never expect to see each other again. Audrey is still hoping to patch things up with Levi even though her one night stand was out of this world she tries to forget Tate. She is shocked when she finds out Tate is on the same hockey team her brother in law plays for and tell Tate he must keep their meeting a secret. I cannot say too much more as I don’t like to write spoilers but I will say GO PURCHASE Empty Net!
This story is amazingly written, the turmoil that Audrey faces and has to deal with because of her relationship with Levy and secrets she has kept to herself makes her feel so unworthy of love it breaks your heart, I shed many tears for Audrey. Toni’s writing makes you feel for her characters like they are your friends; I think an author who can make your heart hurt from reading a story means that she is one great author. This series is fantastic!!
Empty Net is an adult read, Toni’s writing is superb, and I would read and buy anything a Toni Aleo writes. Empty Net is full of passion, romance, and heart break.
I have rated Empty Net a 5 star rating as that is the highest I can give this novel, but if I could give a 10 star rating I would. So what else can I write to encourage you the readers to go buy this book, besides a promise you will not be disappointed.

I thought "Trying to Score" was pretty bad but thought I'd give "Empty Net" a shot, hoping it would be better. NOT!! If I could give this book less than one star I would. I found Fallon in book 2 annoying but Audrey was way worse. Where Fallon was a cryer, Audrey was a giggler. She giggled all the time. She was incredibly desperate to be in a relationship to the point where she let men treat her like dirt. She's so envious of the women around her who are married and is constantly wondering when she'll get her HEA. When she meets Tate and they both realize how much they like each other she decides she can't be with him because she doesn't want to hurt him. I couldn't figure out that one at all - it's obvious she wants a man but once she gets one she doesn't want him? I think she's supposed to be 28 but she talked like a teenager and not in a good way. I've gone back and forth on whether or not I want to include the below information in my review because I found it so incredibly offensive and obnoxious. In the end I had to include it because it's so bad it needs to be noted!

Empty Net is the third book in the Assassins series and although not as good as the first two I still really liked it.
Tate Odder is the new goalie for the Assassins even though he's a rookie he shown great potential but this doesn't matter to Tate as he's lost everything in his life worth living for.
Audrey Parker is in a horrible place and hates everything about her life and wishes she could find her very own Lucas Brooks. Then it all changes when she wakes up next to Tate Odder
Audrey is one if those heroines that if you could reach into your kindle and slap her you wouldn't even hesitate to do it. She can't seem to get rid of her scumbag ex until he beats her within an inch of life.
Tate was just so sweet, charming and sexy and I'm so glad it all worked out in the end.

What a waste of time! I didn't like this book at all. It was too cheesy and the author did a horrible characterization of a Swedish guy. The only Swedish thing in the book was a place called Gävle, everything else was just wrong.
THINGS THAT BOTHERED ME:
- The author misspelled the Swedish words. Mom is not mama but mamma or mor!!!
Dad is pappa or far not papa!!!
- Why use an ancient Danish surname that doesn't sound even Swedish? Forsberg, Andersson,Humlebo..what's wrong with these?!
- And what about Tate? Sounds more American than Swedish to me..
- Too idyllic description of Tate's home in Sweden.

I really truly love Toni's books. She's created such a great cast of characters. I love that each book tells a different persons story, but we still get to see glimpses of the old characters.
The reason I was so excited about reading this book, was because I really loved Audrey in Trying to Score. I identify with her personally. I also have an older sister who was always the pretty one, smart one, and overall "good" child. It can be difficult to live up to that same image. I think Audrey put a lot of pressure on herself as a result. I, like Audrey, do have a great relationship with my sister though. So, again, I could relate to her in that way. I've also picked some really crappy guys to be with (my husband being the exception). I loved watching Audrey find confidence in herself and find not only a true love, but the strength to believe in her dreams.
Tate Odder. Be still my heart. Could this guy be any more perfect?! Tate is such a genuine guy. It's impossible not to love him. I liked getting to know him. Even though he seems perfect, there is depth to his character. He's had to deal with some pretty devastating things in his life that have shaped who he is, not only as an athlete, but partner too. Tate is sexy, funny, sincere, and generous. I really couldn't have picked a better person for Audrey to love.
One of the things I love the most about this series is that, yes these guys are famous athletes, but they live real lives. They have the same relationship problems, if not more because they are athletes. They have insecurities and have made mistakes, but in the end are able to find a love that is true.
Even if you aren't a sports fan, I highly recommend you read this series. Toni is a true romantic and it carries through in her writing. I become so invested in her characters, that I really feel like I'm right there with them. If you like love stories that have some spice, then I promise that you will love not only this book, but the entire series! Definitely check it out!

This Book Is Fantastic!!!! I loved every minute of this and I never wanted it to end. It's been two days since I finished it and I still can't stop thinking about it. I simply NEED more!
But enough with my fan girl squeefest, let's talk about this book...
Audrey Parker doesn't have luck picking winners when it comes to guys. She keeps kissing frogs but it coming up empty handed when it comes to her Prince Charming. That is, until she meets Tate. The problem is that he is way to young for her, and she's scared to let him get close because she's damaged. She thinks she's not right for him because she can't give him kids, but no matter how hard she tries to push him away he keeps coming back. Maybe she should just give in to Tate and finally know what it means to have a Happily Ever After...
I came to love Audrey and all her insecurities. Don't get me wrong there were times when I wanted to just smack her around a bit, but I swear it was for her own good. lol Especially when she would over analyze everything between her and Tate. Or better yet, when she would settle for her ex/asshat of a boyfriend, Levi. Overall it was nice though to see a girl that you can relate to, because let's face it, we've all been there.
And then you have Tate, who is just OMG perfect. I Love, Love, LOVED him! No he isn't actually perfect. He made his fair share of mistakes, but his heart was always in the right place and I loved how he treated Audrey. He just cares so much for her, and the author does a really good job of making us feel what he is feeling. Never once did I think There is no way a guy would actually act like this!, as we know that happens so often in romance novels. And speaking of romance...*fans myself* it was SOOOOOOO hot! It took a little while to get there, but once we did WOW, Ms.Aleo really knows how to write a smoking hot sex scene or two, or three...lol
Now I feel I do have to mention one negative, and that's editing. This book had quite a few editing errors throughout it. I don't know if it was just in the review copy I received or not, but still I have to mention it. Just some of your common misplaced words, misspellings, and repetitiveness. I think with a good edit this story can be tightened up a bit and polished to perfection. Especially when it comes to eliminating places where things are repeated a few too many times. Still this is the first time that I have ever said a book needs editing, but I am still giving it 5 stars. It's just that good! With the edit I would say this is a more of a 7 star book, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next one!
Overall this is a great read with everything that you could possible want from a love story:-)

4.5 Stars!
I love this Assassins series! It really is great and very deep. I couldn't bring myself to do a full five star only because I LOVED that last book sooooo much, and this one was great, but could not compete with book #2.
Many people probably find fault in Audrey, and even get frustrated with her. But honestly, as annoying as she could be about men and relationships... it was pretty accurate to someone who has been abused. She would throw herself at men and look attention in all of the wrong places.
But Tate. What a man! I don't think I have ever met a man so committed to not giving up on a woman! So cute! I only wish that the book delved more into his Swedish side. I found myself forgetting that he wasn't American.
Their relationship: FUN, FLIRTY, FIREWORKS!! Lemon cupcakes... My husband loves lemon cupcakes, and I think I just found a new way for him to eat them!
That ending! OH GOOD LORD!!!! I was a total bitch to anyone trying to talk to me for the last 20 minutes of the book!!!! I was sitting on the edge of my chair and shaking! I help my breath the whole time I swear!!!!!! When Tate found out about the, well I can't tell you what he found out, my heart broke for him!! How can he go through this??

After the third book, I have to say I am officially a Toni Aleo fan. Each book captured me in it's own way and I just can't decide which one I love the most. This is just a great series and I can't wait till August for the last installment.

You won't lose anything if you try it, won't gain anything if you do.
Ok, there were some major problems in this book.
1. The writing style was awful and ambiguous, I had to re-read some stuff just to understand what Aleo wanted to say with that.
2. Sooo so many damn spelling mistakes! They were pretty diverse though, so I figure it wasn't the author's fault but the editing.
3. So damn long! Way too many useless information, pages written just so the book is bigger. I skimmed a lot and believe me, I lost absolutely no info.
Good parts? Hmm... It was pretty typical but I enjoyed the plot and I liked the characters.

I love knowing when I pick up a book that I am about to experience something wonderful, and that's exactly how I feel whenever I start one by Toni Aleo. Her characters are real, the emotions are raw, the suspense is torture, and the steamy scenes are...well, they're just H-O-T, HOT!! I've been very impatiently awaiting the third book in Toni's awesome series, and she was sweet enough to send me an ebook ARC to put me out of my misery early (thank you so much, hun!!). I love Taking Shots and Trying to Score, but I'd have to say this is definitely my favorite of the series so far!!!
Empty Net is Audrey's story, which I was thrilled about because I loved her when we met her in Trying to Score! Fallon is blissfully happy with Lucas and Aiden, leaving Audrey lonely and feeling like her life has passed her by. Dating a complete jerk her uses her when he sees fit, her self esteem is in the tanker and she doesn't see any way to make a change. When she gives in to a weak moment and spends a passionate night with the incredibly sexy guy she meets at the bar, she's determined to forget it ever happened and just figure out her life. But she can't get him out of her head, and when her one night stand turns out to be none other than the gorgeous new young goalie everyone's been talking about, Audrey is floored. Turns out she's been on Tate's mind ever since that night, too, and he is determined to break through her walls and convince her that he's the one she needs. This poor guy definitely had his work cut out for him, contending with Audrey's egotistical, cheating ass for a boyfriend and a big age gap that she wouldn't stop dwelling on. And once again, Toni's book was all about the journey they took, which makes it so easy to feel like you're right in the story with her characters.
I felt so bad for Audrey; lord knows it's never easy being the odd man out, and in her case she was not only left out but also with a miserable job and a man who treated her like crap. I was so mad every time she went back to that loser Levi, but he was so good at using her. I wanted to strangle him for most of the book, and in the end I wanted him to see a slow and painful end!! Audrey deserved so much better, and when Tate started worming his way into her life I was cheering him on at every turn! He was so incredibly sweet to her and mature well beyond his years, and HOLY CRAP could he turn on the sexy when the time came!! Lordy, my pulse was racing left and right over this man, he was too hot to handle!! I loved that he and Audrey matched each other so perfectly, they had amazing chemistry and the fireworks went off whenever they gave into their passion for each other!
Toni pulls out all the stops with the emotional rollercoaster in this story, I was such a mess!! And just when I thought I could take a breather, she throws in a twist that completely blew me out of the water and had my stomach in knots for the last several chapters...good lord, my heart broke for these characters!! I was captivated by Audrey and Tate's story so easily because these characters were really something special, and I loved every minute!!
Once again, I was SO happy to see our favorite characters from the previous books in the series. Ellie and Shea, Fallon, Lucas, and Aiden-it was like coming back to my Assassins family!! All of Toni's characters mesh so well together, and I just love that they are fully involved in each book. Fallon was once again awesome as Audrey's big sis, always there to kick her in the butt or give her a big hug whenever she needed it. Despite Audrey's feelings of being left out and left behind, she always knew that all of them would be there for her if she needed them. And I just loved Piper, she was just what Audrey needed for support and turned out to be a very exciting part of the story!! OMG the ending to this book, my jaw dropped and I was left screaming "WHAT??!!" Can't wait to see her story in Blue Lines, because I can already tell Piper's story is going to be epic!!

Hmmmm....
For the first half of the book, i give Two stars. (see rant below)
For the last half, i give Three stars
The story seemed to pick up as soon as the heroine got her head out of her ass. The Hero was such a sweetheart, but I couldn't believe after all the crap she put him through, that he still wanted her. She wasn't all that special if u ask me, especially for a hot, famous NHL player. Why he wanted her is still beyond me.

The following was too long of a rant for just a status update, so I'm gonna go this route. I have to VENT!!
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS CHICK??!!! OMG! This chick is so fucking frustrating! You say you want the works: Relationship, love, commitment, but you're acting like a dumbass! Ummm, HELLO?! You have a hot, young, Swedish stud practically showing you how much he wants you, and not just for a quick lay, but possibly long term and yet you're still 'in love' with your cheating, sleaze of an ex-boyfriend?! AND you still contemplate on taking him back if/when he changes his cheating/sleazy ways?! WHAT. THE. FUCK?! Seriously? OMG, I hope I have the strength NOT to chuck this book. This is too frustrating.
For the first half of the book, i give Two stars. (see rant below)
For the last half, i give Three stars
The story seemed to pick up as soon as the heroine got her head out of her ass. The Hero was such a sweetheart, but I couldn't believe after all the crap she put him through, that he still wanted her. She wasn't all that special if u ask me, especially for a hot, famous NHL player. Why he wanted her is still beyond me.

I have really tossed and turned about what to rate this book. In one hand, I loved it. On the other hand the heroine infuriated me.
But by the end of the book, I truly believed she had suffered enough, I began to love her. So 4 stars is the result.
Toni Aleo has a wonderful sporting series in her Assassins books.
She writes amazing characters. Tate is one of my favourites so far. Sensitive, adorable, he knew what he wanted and he went after it.
Audrey, poor, poor Audrey. What a hell of a time this woman has had. I yoyo-ed from wanting to slap her to cheering her on.

Oh my God, I seriously can't wait for the next one, I can't stop thinking about it!
LOVE. THIS. All I can say is- awesome. Toni Aleo creates some amazing male leads. I didn't think anyone could compete with Shea (Lucas was my number 2) but Tate was just to die for. I really liked Audrey. Seeing her progression throughout the series has been great and I just really like her and Tate together. Also, I have read the whole series since the release of #1 and, even though they have all been great, I think Aleo has really hit her stride in her writing with this third installment. Kudos to her and I can't wait for her next one!

I really love the cast of characters in this series, they are all realistic, complex, and fascinating people that you can't help but get drawn into their lives. I love how the author includes the characters from the previous books into new book, the continuity of their stories flows smoothly and intertwines with the new storyline but it doesn't overtake the next couple's story. I was completely captivated by Audrey and Tate's story, my emotions ran the gamut as they struggled with their issues, and my pulse raced with the sizzling chemistry and passion that they had for each other. And if that isn't enough, the author leaves the reader with a cliffhanger that leads into the next book in the series, Blue Lines, that will feature Piper's story ... nothing like leaving us hanging ... *sigh*
Empty Net is a sassy, sexy, and dramatic romance story that will keep you entertained and wanting more. Like the old saying goes ... you can't just stop with one ... The Assassins Series will draw you into the fascinating sport of hockey where you'll be introduced to the Assassins family of very hot hockey players and the strong passionate women that love them ... you'll never look at hockey in the same way after reading these sizzling books!

I have to say there were a lot of gramatical and spelling errors, but that aside, I'm loving each book in this series more and more.
Audrey and Tate meet up at the bar where Fallon is having her bachelorette party and end up having a one-night-stand without knowing who each other are. At Fallon and Lucas's wedding, they discover that Tate is Lucas' best friend and new Goalie on The Assassin's Hockey team and Audrey is Fallon's sister, as well as they have been living next door to each other for over a month, yet never seeing each other. I can understand how that happens with the horrible schedule these hockey players seem to have.
I know it happens, but I just can't get past the fact that Audrey would let Levi treat her an talk to her the way he does. She seems so desperate for love. Taking all his crap because she believed, deep down, that she didn't deserve a good man because she couldn't give him a child. She had some scaring and issues with her tubes due to an abortion she had when she was seventeen.
Tate is adorable and knows that he wants Audrey no matter how badly she thinks about herself, and even though she's almost seven years older. The fact that they heal each other, from Tate losing his family to a crash and Audrey not being able to have a baby and feeling she's not worth a good man, is so sweet. You can read their growth in every word in as the pages progress.
I felt at the end of TRYING TO SCORE that Levi was going to be trouble in Lucas' life. I wondered if he was afraid of Fallon coming into Lucas' life and find out that that he was taking advantage of Lucas. I felt it odd that he was upset that Fallon wanted to help Lucas learn to read. And I was right when it turns out that Levi is stealing from Lucas. I also didn't understand why they would allow him to be at their wedding. Even if Audrey was still dating him, he shouldn't have been there and the way he was treating Audrey, Lucas should have fired him when he was kicked out of the house in the last book. The fact that Levi was allowed to get to Audrey and hurt he so badly, I was shocked and clutching my mouth as he was hurting her. I was so invested in the characters and what was happening to them.
After Audrey is hurt, her father reverts back to his horrible ways. I don't understand how that man can be so cruel to his children. Audrey is almost thirty years old, obviously in a loving relationship, which her father should want for her. But what does he do? He makes Tate more upset by telling him he could have him removed from her hospital room. I was thinking Tate should marry her while she's in the hospital so her father could have nothing to say about anything.
I loved this one, it wasn't perfect, with all the errors, which is the only reason I didn't give it five stars. But I'm becoming a big fan of Ms. Aleo's storytelling. Sometimes the women are ridiculous and can't get out of their own way. And the men seem to put up with an unusual amount of crap and keep trying beyond what could be considered normal. But we can all dream that it's possible and I love that about these books.

I'm coming into this series with just this book but I was happy to see it worked great as a standalone. I've had a recent fascination with hockey books and I find that extremely funny because, even though I would love to understand the sport, I just don't. I like watching it but I never last more than 30 minutes (unless I'm drooling over some hot guy) and I guess that all comes from not having someone to explain the ins and outs of the game.
But in my books I understand everything. Boy is a successful hockey player, boy meets girl, boy has lots of hot monkey sex with girl, boy falls in love with girl. EMPTY NET starts off pretty strong and fun. Audrey is at her sisters bachelorette party, gets drunk and brings back a hot guy to her room, planning on a one night stand. She had just broken up with a loser boyfriend and was in a bad place. Turns out hottie is the newest (and youngest) player in the team that her future brother in law plays for, as well as her new neighbor. Fate kinda throws them together and they can't help it but fall in love, and yes passing through the hot monkey sex part in which there might've been a very hot scene on the kitchen counter involving cupcakes. ;)
I felt for Audrey from the very beginning. She has been emotionally abused to the point where she would allow people to use her. She deserves to be loved and I think Tate does that well. Makes her feel cherished.
I'm usually not a big fan of older woman/younger man romances, especially when it's apparently so obvious he looks that much younger than her. I just couldn't completely buy into the OMG he's to die for hot when he's being compared to a sixteen year old. But what he may lack in manliness looking and age he makes up for in heart and actions.
As a couple I think they were great. I wish there would've been better resolutions to their issues, since they were important issues in a relationship. More than just "I'll walk away and think about it and then all of a sudden I see the light and everything is alright in the world again".
Even though I haven't read the previous books, I can already see that I would've enjoyed seeing them again in this book. Especially Lucas. He plays a good enough part in this story and I would like to read his story as it seems it was quite interesting.
I was not expecting the ending, there were a couple of twists there for me and I liked how everything seem to come together there. The relationships between Audrey's family and close friends, theirs as a couple and their plans for the future. Definitely an author I want to read more of.

My Review:
*Yay* This is absolutely the best book so far in the series...and the entire series has been amazing!
When we were just introduced to Tate early in book #2, I wasn't so sure because he was so young. Hello, he's a pro NHL player and was only 20 yo back then...my immediate thoughts were of partying and man-whore ways that are such a norm for young pro athletes. But then we started to learn his tragic story and I started to fall in love with him. This was a kid that had to deal with more tragedy than most 40 yo's by the age of 18...that matures a person fast and shows them just what's important in life.
Tate is new to the United States, new to speaking English, new to the Assassins and he's feeling a bit lost. He suffers from panic attacks and honestly, I feel like he has a mild case of PTSD. He's been severely traumatized, but he's such an amazing guy. Just one of those guys that you want to wrap your arms around and hug. Yeah, I pretty much fell in love with his character. And he is such a sweetheart...everyone sees it, yes, even Audrey. Tate is a catch!
Then there's Audrey...*gah*...through so much of this book I simply wanted to knock her upside the head to knock some sense into her. Her sister is Fallon, heroine of book #2, and throughout both books she has gone on and on about how she wants to find her prince...so she dates and "loves" Levi...the biggest jerk in the series. I just don't get it especially when Tate is right there...so perfect and so gorgeous and so good in bed. How? How does that work?? Like I said, I just wanted to knock some sense into her...badly! Although I hated her choices, I never had a problem seeing why she made them...they were very in-character for her. But my heart just hurt for her and that she couldn't make herself choose Tate...and I just wanted to cry for him. They both are so torn up through so much of this book.
BTW, the scenes where Audrey would listen to him play the piano through the closet wall....*sob*....so gorgeous and so perfect for this story. And yes, I absolutely DID CRY through this book. It's very emotional...and just so good. An amazing love story.

ANY of these books can be read as stand-alone novels, but ALL the characters in them are deeply involved with each others lives so the reading of the stories becomes so much richer through each book as you get to see the characters grow even more and evolve after their Happily Ever After's. The addition of the hockey/team aspect just makes these books so much more. The Assassins are a family and I love that. Crossing my fingers that book #4 comes out soon...a HUGE benefit of the author self-pubbing these wonderful books!

OMG OMG OMG ..Holy crap what a ride loved every second of it but damm what a MUST READ!! Firstly i would like to thank my friend and gorgeous author Toni Aleo for giving me the honur of reading and eArc of your 3rd book. I would also like to Thank the gorgeous Tara Turner cus without you it would not have been possible. So thankyou both gorgeous ladies :)
Now back to this amazing amazing book. Toni has really out done herself with this one if you thought her first two book Taking Shots and Trying to score were awsome then you will apsolutely love this one, it is my favourite one so far, but i do love all of them.
This book has left me wanting so much more. I didnt want to end. Let me warn you it is much more heartbreaking than the others as i was left crying for a while.
I loved Audrey from the start i loved her in Trying to score and she made me love her even more in this one, but this is her story and her story is not so pretty let me tell you. Toni really makes you feel every emotion during this book you feel everything that Tate and Audrey are going through, when they cry you cry when they get frustrated you get frustrated. And let me say i never hated a man more than i hate Levi, i dont even think there is a name for him he is so messed up. He alone made me feel so much anger everytime his name was mentioned.
Well i guess you all have to read it and find out but damm you will not be dissappointed. THIS BOOK IS A MUST MUST READ !! I RECOMMEND THIS TO EVERYONE!! it is hot sexy and damm heartbreaking and worth every tear you shed:) hope you enjoy it as much as i did..
Now back to this amazing amazing book. Toni has really out done herself with this one if you thought her first two book Taking Shots and Trying to score were awsome then you will apsolutely love this one, it is my favourite one so far, but i do love all of them.
This book has left me wanting so much more. I didnt want to end. Let me warn you it is much more heartbreaking than the others as i was left crying for a while.
