The general asthetics of the book (pictures, layout, etc.) are pleasant and appealing but the writing was pretty bad. Hopefully someone can correct me on this, but I believe that this book was supposed to be part of a student's doctoral research and ended up becoming a book. If that is the case, simply translating from a foreign source (Japanese architects) is not sufficient. The readings felt poorly strung together and the short essays seemed like an after thought.
Great book. Such a good compilation of the best Japanese architects and their projects. There are a lot of photographs and drawings, though I do wish there were more details and sketches included too.
It's a good book to continue referencing from. I use it a lot in studio. The paper is very nice too.
