Cover by Flaviano. Jessica Harrow finds herself trapped between the worlds of the living and the dead-something that no other reaper has ever experienced! Just what makes her so special? Can she make her way back to the afterlife, and what exactly is going to happen now that she can walk amongst the living? The mystery deepens in this new series from acclaimed writer Stephanie Phillips (Harley Quinn) and fan-favorite artist Flaviano (New Mutants)!
I am so intrigued. Jessica is a Reaper who unlike the others has interacted with the living which she shouldn’t and has no idea how she died. It’s Iike her death is a secret that is supposed to remain that way. She along with Marcel and Eddie take matters into her own hands to find out how she died believing that will explain why she interacted with the living and I wasn’t prepared for the scene we see! I need more!!!
Day 168: Eddie doesn’t look like Lita Ford. He’s totally Dee Snider. Except for how he dresses I’ve decided I’d want to spend my time as a Reaper like Eddie. And I would love to have a kick-ass vinyl shop in the afterlife!
Grim #2 picks up with Jessica Harrow still reeling from the events of the first issue, caught between the living and the dead while trying to unravel the mystery of her own death — a secret her superiors don’t seem eager to share. Stephanie Phillips continues to build out this intriguing afterlife world, and while some moments feel a bit like catch-up, it does a solid job laying the groundwork for what’s next.
The character work shines, especially in Jess’s interactions with fellow Reapers Eddie and Marcel. Flaviano’s art, paired with Rico Renzi’s vibrant colors, keeps every page visually striking — the records room sequence is especially memorable.
It doesn’t hit with the same impact as the debut, but Grim #2 is a strong follow-up that deepens the central mystery and promises more to come.
This is such and interesting take of the Reaper of Souls. Why is this one taker so important? Why does she not get to know how she died? What is the deal with the sweeping death in the beginning and at thw end of the issue? Can't wait until the next issue!

I came across GRIM by STEPHANIE PHILLIPS on Jeff Bezos real estate. And while I was reading the synopsis I noticed its similarity to the synopsis of My book SOUL COLLECTOR. Peep it:
GRIM: Discover the world of the afterlife, where Jessica has been recruited as a Reaper, tasked with ferrying countless souls to their final destination. But unlike the rest of the Reapers, she has no memory of what killed her and put her into this predicament. In order to unravel the mystery of her own demise, she'll have to solve an even bigger one -- where is the actual GRIM REAPER?
SOUL COLLECTOR: Collecting souls is the job, and the bosses in Hell are some shady motherfuckers. With new rules and reeling revelations with every assignment, the job doesn't seem to be quite what it appears-and promotions come at a price. A quick-paced supernatural thriller, "Soul Collector" follows the journey of Sippian, a young victim of gang violence, who in Hell assumes the role of Death and struggles to understand the convoluted rules and shadowy figures-and morality-he faces in the afterlife. What will it take for him to become, and remain, DAT Nigga? What will it cost? And who's setting the price?
1st Similarity: There's the idea that SIP doesnt immediately find out how he died, either.
2nd Similarity: Next I noticed that when she gits to HELL just like SIP she is taken thru INTAKE (Grim) where we see a long line of sorry muthafuckaz coming. In my book i say ORIENTATION (and there is a long line of sorry muthafuckaz coming in as well). Hmmmm??
3rd Similarity: PHILLIPS also decides to make the story one of the OFFICE POLITICKS of HELL. Well, so did I since hell is full of sum SHADY Muthafuckaz. HMMMM??
4th Similarity: There is also the idea that NO ONE actually knows WHO Death Is (same with mah BOOK). Hmmmm??
5th Similarity: Then there is JESS' Mentor: ADIRA. In mah Book its MR OTIS who spits the game and the RULES. Hmmm??
This is all established in the first ISSUE.
Its only by the 2nd issue where PHILLIPS depart frum the SIMILARITIES found in SOUL COLLECTOR. Butt the overarching them of OFFICE POLITICS (like SOUL COLLECTOR is pervasive and forms the foundation of BOTH our STORIES). Hmmmm??
Thru-out ISSUES 3-5 she goes in a different direction BUTT still its like she lifted my Structure to establish tone.
Maybe its just one of those things since I realize that there are only so many ideas in the Zeitgeist. And its highly probable she just got the story idea later (my book came out before hers=JUNE 2021 compared to hers MAY 2022).
Is it worth pursuing, legally? Probably not. Butt the similarites damn sho made me curious.
So I guess, WHATEVER, baby.
Sidenote: I tagged both STEPHANIE PHILLIPS & her AGENT (Heroes & Villains) on Twitter. Butt they never responded.
I have mixed feelings about this issue. It shows quite promising subplots with attractive ideas, such as the opening sequence that takes a lot of strength because of how short it is, and it is right after that that things get interesting with Jess and her group. It is immediately clear that there are secrets, ulterior motives, and I could even say a conspiracy involved, which together makes you read even faster. Do you. . . Do you ever wish you could forget your death? I'm sure no death is easy, but it is mine.
I was so eager to know about jess own death then surprise, to see that it only reveals her birth how interesting, but why? that is the the mysterious million dollar question.
Grim has quickly become very exciting and I love the fact that not only are song lyrics included into the story, but the way it's done looks really cool. The only other time I've seen that unusual yet, unique style of writing was Through the Woods by.Emily Carroll which I highly recommend and a favorite of mine for horror graphic novels. I hope more writers chooses to tell stories that way in terms of words not being written normally.
Jessica, the Grim Reaper, is determined to find out not only how she died, but why she is able to interact with the living. This is something only death himself should be able to do. Of course, Jessica enlist the help of her friends, and they go on a quest to break into the file room and discover the truth about her death. They find out that she was born and her mother died after her birth. they were then interrupted by Indira insists that this is something she should not find out. The plot thickens.
