"Since you’re the hero of your own story, I know you’ll come up with a good ending."When Nick's mom died, it was like the whole family just...stopped. They were all existing, but not really living.
Laurie believes in fairies, obsesses with a book called Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide, and talks constantly about the Grace siblings. But Nick can deal with that all...at least he could, until some of Laurie's weirdness turns out to be true.
"Laurie seemed to be proud to be the weirdest person alive."
I absolutely freaking loved the Spiderwick Chronicles - the very best faerie middle grade series I've read so far.
"A creature lay on its side - its green skin fading to white in places and dry as a leaf. ...
It wasn't covered in purple glitter.
It didn't have wings.
But Nicholas had a sinking feeling that it was going to turn out to be a faerie anyway."
