Striking photographs and simple text convey to young children the many ways people around the world travel from one place to another. "Comprehensive and intriguing....The photographs are splendidly displayed...accompanied by a brief, provocative text....Will never stay on library shelves."--School Library Journal.
Subbing first grade this week. They really enjoyed this book. Adding books to help me think about the library I want to have once I become a teacher. :)
This book puts many different ways of travel into prospective. Although many people do not have the opportunity to travel the world, this book brings many different forms of transportation to life. I found it interesting how many people in other countries walk to their next destination by using their shoulders and head to transport items. Many forms of transportation are used worldwide which shows the similarities between different countries. This book was a wonderful insight on different parts of the world mobility.
This early reader discusses many different ways of traveling around the world. It describes the most simple of conveyances using human energy, animals, simple wheeled carts, and more modern and complex transportation.
So Why does a question like THIS show up as multiple choice in a Reading Counts quiz?
Q: People are taken all over town on: A. planes B. trains C. buses D. donkeys
All but "A" are factually correct according to the text of the book. Yet only one of the answers is technically correct.
Moving on, we get this question:
Q: Some wheels are turned by: A. motors B. water C. the sun D. steam
Again, if children have some early science exposure, all of these answers are factually correct, yet only "A" is specifically mentioned in the book and is the "correct" answer.
Original Summary: This was a book about different forms of transportation all over the world. There are several pictures of different ways to go from place to place. It speaks about how each form of transportation is used by people.
Original Review: This book is very informative, it is quite useful. It teaches children about different modes of transportation there are all over the world. It is perfect for teaching children about such things.
In-Class Uses: Teachers can have children draw pictures of forms of transportation they use, they could also have the children write the names of these forms of transportation.
I liked this book because it was a brief but still informative story about the different types of transportation used around the world. I think it is very good for kids to learn about other countries and cultures and how they live, and this book gives them a peek into the transportation systems of a wide variety of places.
Nonfiction Grades K-1 This book is a great book for beginners. It lists what types of items people use for transportation throughout the world, but it does not go too deep into each item. Thus, keeping children's attention.
-SUMMARY: This informational text explored the different ways of life and travel all over the world. The book exposes a variety of different forms of transportation throughout so many different countries. There is an introduction to new cultures and how different forms of transportation work.
-REVIEW: I really enjoyed the exposure to so many different cultures in this text. Children will be able to learn so much about other places and people they are unsure of. They will be introduced to so many different forms of transportation that they probably never knew existed. Also, loved the authentic photographs.
This book is about all the different ways that people carry things from one location to the next. It starts with carrying things by foot on peoples heads or backs. Then it shows how things are transported by animal and shows all the different ways wheels are used. They are used to push or pull things, used on cars, buses or trains. Things are transported on water by boat and through air by plane. I really did enjoy this book because it depicts many cultures through pictures. Many students aren't aware of what other cultures have to do to get things from one place to the next. Many students don't realize how lucky we are to have cars. The book also ends by inspiring us to fly to the moon one day. This could be used in the classroom to talk about other cultures and other modes of transportation. It keeps students engaged by showing pictures. You could get students to associate a picture with a place on the map.
With wonderful photographs from all over the world (and a page at the end noting the location and a few sentences about each place) and simple text this is a wonderful book for a storytime about going places. My storytime audience enjoyed all the many different ways people use to get from one place to another.
Summary: This informational text tells of all the ways in which you can get around in places throughout the world. Ranging from animal drawn carriages, to buses, to boats. The book shows forms of transportation throughout the world.

In Class Use: It can be used in class because it shows the many ways in which people can get from point A to point B. It is great for units on transportation and/or occupation.
