i didn't wanna like this book. honestly, i know this is mean, but small paperbacks that cost around $5 almost always end up being shitty, generic, low-brow garbage. this wasn't, though it had the ELEMENTS of a garbage book. somehow, i was hooked. maybe it's because i like romance novels, maybe because it wasn't solely focused on romance, but i liked it. i wouldn't say it taught me any lessons, but it entertained me. i was surprised at the time it took me to read it - one day, over 300 pages.
I wavered between 3 and 4 stars for this book, but since I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it, I gave it a 4. This book sat on my shelf for years. In fact, I'm not even sure when I purchased it. All I know is that I bought it through my romance book club. It is also the first book I've read by Kylie Adams. But it probably won't be the last. If you like fun, frothy reads, you'll like this book. The hero, Jack Thorpe, is a complete and total sweetheart. Sexy, kind, nurturing, Adams created a character that any man would find hard to live up to. But that's why I read these kind of books: total escapism. On the other hand, the heroine, Tatiana Fox, is a deeply flawed but still likeable character. A B-list Hollywood actress, Tatiana is as self-centered, egocentric, and out of touch with the rest of humanity as I always envisioned Hollywood to be. That said, her love of her twins (Ethan and Everson) and a good man allows Tatiana to experience true growth.
Basically, while the characters were intersting, there wasn't any emotional element to the book that allowed you to get attached to the characters and emphasize with what they were feeling.
I have had this book on my shelf for I don't know how many years. This was a fluffy chick lit, had a love-hate relationship with the ending of this book.
