She was the toast of London Society...but only a dashing rake knew her wicked secret!
The Madness of a Marquess
Candie Murphy was the most beautiful girl Tony Betancourt, Marquess of Coniston, had ever seen...and this rakish aristocrat considered himself an expert on lovely women. He certainly expected this one to be grateful after he rescued her scalawag Uncle Max from jail. Instead, the cheeky Irish miss heatedly refused his invitation to share his bed!
Then the charming Candie Murphy soon became part of the London ton, posing as one of the Donegal Murphys, descendants of kings. For once, Tony had met his match in wit and mischief—and he couldn't resist a wager that could lead him into the arms of the lovely Miss Murphy. A dangerous gamble...for with one sweet Candie kiss he might win his bet—but forever lose his heart!
Kasey Michaels is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 100 books (she doesn't count them). Kasey has received three coveted Starred Reviews from Publishers Weekly, two for the historical romances, THE SECRETS OF THE HEART and THE BUTLER DID IT, and a third for contemporary romance LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (that shows diversity, you see). She is a recipient of the RITA, a Waldenbooks and Bookrak Bestseller award, and many awards from Romantic Times magazine, including a Career Achievement award for her Regency era historical romances. She is an Honor Roll author in Romance Writers of America, Inc. (RWA)
Kasey has appeared on the TODAY show, and was the subject of a Lifetime Cable TV show "A Better Way," in conjunction with Good Housekeeping magazine, a program devoted to women and how they have achieved career success in the midst of motherhood (short version: "with great difficulty").
A highly praised nonfiction book, written as Kathryn Seidick, "...OR YOU CAN LET HIM GO," details the story of Kasey and her family during the time of her eldest son's first kidney transplant.
Kasey has written Regency romances, Regency historicals, category books including novellas and continuities and a few series "launch" books, and single title contemporaries. She has coped with time travel, ghosts, trilogies, the dark side, the very light side, and just about everything in between. Hers is also the twisted mind behind her ongoing Maggie Kelly mystery series starring a former romance writer turned historical mystery writer whose gorgeous hunk of a fictional hero shows up, live and in color, in her Manhattan living room – to melt her knees, to help her solve murders, and to leave the top off her toothpaste. And, says Kasey, she's just getting started!
this was a see-saw up and down, all around with a great scalawag, dashing hero and felonious heroine haven't read it in years, am just updating files going back over all my books for rereads, library still closed (covid-having to purchase shelf feet) and Michael's alphabet series were all worth reading, some more than others
when i get to my reread will try to be more coherent i will say that the series is a must read just from its quite charming and not sexist covers so many titles are ruined by flagrant attempts at unnecessary soft porn, truly embarassing don't believe anyone goes around so shirtless
I bought these titles during Covid when the library was closed and running out of titles to read during the summer. I embarked on my third or fourth reread of this title. The series most reminds me of how often I relied on Georgette Heyer which actually is a review in itself
The Mischievous Miss Murphy by Kasey Michaels is a fun read. Ms Michaels has given us a well-written book. Her characters are lovable. Tony and Candie's story is a fast-paced romp loaded with humor, drama and spice. I enjoyed reading The Mischievous Miss Murphy and look forward to reading more from Kasey Michaels in the future. The Mischievous Miss Murphy is book 6 of the Alphabet Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from BookFunnel.
This fluffy Regency amused me greatly. The heroine's uncle was a hoot and Candie was sweet while also being a bit of a con artist. The hero was all he should be.
The main thing about a romance is how the romance happens. This one was perfectly delightful and I enjoyed it from start to finish.
If you like traditional Regencies, I think you'd like this book.
This was my second read by this author. And exactly like the first one, half of the book was witty and amusing and I loved loved the dialogues and the characters, but then it just became flat. The h&H were already in love and there were only minor challanges in their way to reach their HEA. The evil spinster subplot was redundant imo and I mostly skipped it. I just need more action in a book to keep me interested.
