I had multiple copies of this text in my library, and I thought at first it was very basic. Once you begin reading, however, you begin to realize that what is explained in English grammar is necessary, and so this is why the basics are emphasized. In context, everything in the book spells out advanced grammar and composition in fact, or advanced HS level; that is, if you can manage working through all the ideas. It is, nonetheless a pretty simple read, but it does take patience.
