Jackie Pullinger is a British Protestant missionary to Hong Kong. At the age of 22 she moved to Hong Kong and began to reach out to the people of the Walled City. Her ministry started with only a handful of people but has grown steadily over the last fifty years. She founded the St. Stephen's Society, which is involved in drug rehabilitation in Hong Kong and the Philipines.
One of my favorite books of 2025, definitely one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. Spoke to me deeply and personally, her journey of obeying Jesus did not look “normal” and many would’ve advised against it. Ministering to people in chaos & completely unconventional lives. Her ministry being by the spirit. Seeing real addictions break off. Sometimes I would read a chapter and cry, or just get so ministered to. I loved how she spoke about short and long term missions, how because she stayed she doesn’t just get the starter course but the entire meal. It was never about ministry, and even though she wants it to look like that it’s never that. It’s just loving people and walking in the Holy Spirit. Was really spoken to by how all in she was, especially in missing sleep (that’s how I felt reading it!). Read this in a critical month of needing to remember that the gospel is true and Jesus still saves, and it encouraged me in just that. The power of testimony! Thank you Jesus. She is just a woman who obeyed Jesus. All of our stories can be divinely touched like this I believe.
The first time I’ve got to know about Jackie Pullinger was during lecture phase of my ‘Discipel Training School’ in 2016 and I was blown away by her faith and obedience to move to a nation, even she cannot speak that language.
Reading this book again, still blown away by her story and all those miracles that happens. She shows what it means to ‘GO’ and don’t hesitate about the past and looking forward what God can do!
First time reading a book about/written by a missionary. Jackie’s faithfulness to the Lord over and over again is very convicting. My faith is stirred!
An inspirational and life changing book...Pullingers bravery and courage never ceases to amaze me as I learn more about her adventures in the dangerous Walled City.
I enjoy books like this, going into the life, the ups and downs of a missionaries life. Inspiring work from someone who left everything to follow the call of God.
