The vampire Staz is one of the most powerful district bosses in the demon world, fending off everyone who dares challenge him. But secretly, the fearsome Staz is obsessed with human culture, especially video games, manga, and everything that comes from Japan! When a Japanese girl wanders into the demon world, Staz can't wait to meet the human and learn everything he can about her world. Unfortunately, before he's able to ask her anything, the girl is killed by one of his would-be usurpers, leaving just her bare soul behind. Staz vows to help the girl restore her body and return to her former life-especially since it means taking a trip to the human world himself!
for a girl who claims she doesn't like vampires, she sure does like plenty vampire anime and manga
One of my favorite anime and now manga. The plot is interesting, it is funny, and the artwork is nice. This is about a boss of one of several areas of hell who tries to turn a human-turned-ghost back into human.
A funny oddball kind of a manga that sometimes teetered on the edge of questionably inappropriate.
Staz was a quirky and likeable protagonist, especially compared to the sea of bland faces that surrounded him. There were so many nameless characters, like the female main character, who played a role in the plot yet who weren’t even memorable enough for their names to be said more than after their first introduction. The female main character was annoyingly mistreated in parts which was uncomfortable to read and it seemed like most of the jokes made around her way made to her detriment. Specifically, the way she was rendered naked after being murdered and then repeatedly asked for clothes seemed like dialogue that tried to be a joke but in me it found entirely the wrong audience for it.
The plot was relatively murky. The rules of the demon world and its elements seemed to be invented as they went along and the reasoning behind certain scenes often wasn’t clear. Though that wasn’t entirely surprisingly, considering this was a manga that passed itself off as a fun time rather than one that made you think too deeply.
This doesn’t really stand out??? And I’m not even sure why.
The story overall is pretty promising. It’s paced really well, especially for mangas of this type. The narration ruins it though, since it gives it a “meh” tone throughout.
The major downside of this book was the entire situation surrounding the female character. - First of all, she’s the only girl. - Secondly, she’s objectified SO MUCH. It’s so gross. This is most of the issue. - Third, she isn’t given a chance to be awesome. She seemed pretty cool but then the spotlight was like “yeah, anyways...”.
I liked the rest of the characters. They were pretty cool. (Not that I’m saying she isn’t, we just haven’t been shown that.) I liked how the main character Staz was an otaku and the portrayal was actually done well. That was the major impressive part.
It wasn't all that great. I really like the main character. But the girl in the story was just so enjoying. I liked that the main character was in to manga and japan. But the story was kind of boring. Should I be continuing with it? I don't know.
Main characters of blood lad are Staz and Fuyumi. There are numerous side characters such as Wolf, Belle and Liz. The main character Staz is in love with the human world. In fact he has bookshelves upon bookshelves of books from the other world. Staz is one of the most powerful bosses in the demon realm. For a boss to be stocked up on other world things is a little strange. One day a normal high school girl has ran into the demon realm without realizing she did. Her name was Fuyumi. Fuyumi wondered off into this different realm on accident, and in the end not going out of it the same. This high school girl ended up dying in this realm. Becoming a ghost was very hard for her, for she had to keep human blood down her to prevent her from disappearing. As the story goes on the main character goes through obstacles, such as fighting a store clerk for a pair of underwear he didn't even need, running into an old friend only knowing they had to box over a book. And having to go visit his brother in demon world acropolis to solve the riddles in the book of resurrection. This book of resurrection was to bring Fuyumi back to life, for there was a little problem. The books words where all backwards. The way of writing this book was amazing. At the beginning it was a little confusing because everything is backwards, but that was on me. This was the first actual manga book I read so it was a little confusing. The quality of the characters were ok. I'm not a huge fan of how every book the author makes the women characters big chested. I feel as if there should be a variety. As of the other characters, I like how Wolf and Staz were planned out, and in the end them actually knowing each other. About the plot I felt like there were many connections. Everything wasn't answered but it's only the first book. The story is going somewhere unlike some other books I have read. My connections to the book is personally the whole book. I love vampires and fond over them. The book was also connecting because of how the vampires were used. I dis like it when vampires are used by holly crosses and garlic. Doesn't make sense to me. This book reminds me of a lot of other books. Basically all the books I have read relate to vampires so there is a lot to connect. An interesting thing is that in every book, vampires are used in a different way. Sometimes being similar or opposites. Everyone reacting to the world a different way. Connecting this book to the world is a little hard. As for the setting, the town is in ruins but is still capable to live in. I imagine this is like the world in the far future if something goes wrong. For example a war. Other details involve magic and can't relate them to the actual world.
Blood Lad starts out as a mostly humorous boy-meets-girl story, about a geeky (but quite powerful) vampire boy and a human girl who ends up in the demon world.
Main character Staz was ok at first. His design is pretty cool, but I don't care much for the "geek" character type. At least he can fight as well. Unfortunately from the second chapter on he behaves like quite the jerk towards Fuyumi, just because he doesn't feel physically attracted to her anymore? I mean, he still cares for her, she is his "someone special" and all that, but it did made me like him a lot less.
In general the characters are all so-so. None of them stuck out in a memorable way for me. Fuyumi is pretty boring, even her design is very plain for a main character.
The art is very good in every aspect. Yuuki Kodama is one of the really talented manga artists out there. Only the big breasts of the female characters, especially Fuyumi's, look really stupid (but that's of course a very common thing in mangas aimed at male readers).
The story is hard to judge for now, since it's only the very beginning of the plot. She dies. And then they try to revive her. Everything gets a bit funnier and more interesting once the other characters appear towards the end of the book.
Recommended if you're looking for a light and funny read, with cool, fighting boys and "beautiful" girls. Has the potential to turn into much more of a "fighting shonen" and of developing a more complex and serious storyline. I think I'll try the next volume at some point.
Blood Lad is one of my favorite series of all time, just because. (I'll try to be as unbiased as possible in this review!) I first started reading it online, where it quickly soared to the top of my favorites, and left me desperately waiting for its recognition. Eventually my perseverance paid off, and it became animated, along with translated into multiple languages, so I could then buy each copy the day it came out in my town (to the annoyance of my parents).
Most fans describe Blood Lad as the "better vampire story". In essence, the story revolves around Staz, an elite vampire "otaku" obsessed with the Human World, especially Japan. After a Japanese human girl stumbles into his part of hell and is turned into a ghost, his new goal is to return her to her original human form.
To me, Blood Lad seems to have a pretty endearing storyline. Kodama Yuuki, the mangaka, does a pretty good job of giving depth to his characters in just a way that makes them all either lovable or relatable, which I feel is pretty important in a story. In addition to the main struggle of resurrecting Fuyumi (the girl) back into a human, there is a co-existing, much more threatening plot happening alongside their story, that eventually they become tangled in. Overall, this story provided a great storyline that I wasn't expecting, along with fun characters, and lots of funny jokes.
Blood Lad is the story of an otaku vampire, and it is awesome! America can keep their sparkly vampires and shirtless werewolves. I'll take Staz over those losers any day of the week! This manga is one of the most entertaining that I've read in a while. There's so much about it that's pure awesome! It's got:
Otaku Vampires!
A big-breasted human-turned-ghost!
Super Epic Battles!
Romance!
Bunny Girls?! O.o
In all seriousness, this is one of the few manga that has a combination of all the things that I like, where none of the aspects are overbearing. It's humerus, action-packed, romantic, and mildly fanservice-y. If you're looking for a good diversion to get yourself through the day, look no further!
I watched the anime before I ended up getting around to reading the manga, and I have to say they do a pretty good job of cloning the manga. What's covered in this volume doesn't go as far as the anime, so everything was very familiar to me. While it's a series that isn't nearly as cringe as some of the others I've tried to read or watch over the years, it's still an extremely heterosexual and melodramatic story arc. I do enjoy Staz as a character, but I don't much care for pretty much any other character, and some of the plot events are just a bit too silly for me. Not a bad series by any means, just not a storyline that inherently holds my interest.
Suprisingly really great manga. I read this book because Hulu had the english version of the anime up for a while and I just fell in love with it. While yes Staz is a Vampire and there is a girl involved it doesn't follow the band wangon. The only thing that I didn't like as much is how the leading lady is so passive but later on in the series Bell makes up for it a bit. Over all I would reccomend.
I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. It is both hilarious and full of action. My only complaint is that two of the female characters, Fuyumi and Bell, have ridiculously large breasts. It was annoying, but I will forgive Yuuki Kodama for drawing them that way because I enjoyed the characters and the story.
It was a really fun read I started off by watching the anime a few years back and I completely forgot the story however picking this up and a actually reading it has reminded me of how fun the story is as a whole the art can definitely be great sometimes especially in the serious moments, my favourite characters have to be staz and we hands down cant wait for the second volume
Stumbled across the anime by accident and enjoyed it quite a bit. Since it stops halfway through the story, I picked up the manga. Apparently, the anime is very close to the original, so there is a bit of repetition, but I'm enjoying it so far. Can't wait to see how it all develops.
I loved the anime and was sad that there was no follow-up season. I turned to the manga instead, and unfortunately, the continuation of the story falls flat. I did not enjoy the direction it took.

to be honest i just started this manga series online so there only 27 chapters so far but from what ive read im really starting to like it. i would recomend this manga series to the people that like a little action mixed with a bit of romance to keep the pages turning. story starts with a vampire lord of an entire district in the demon world named Vlad D. Charlie aka. Staz who turns out to be what most people would call an Otaku or someone obcessed with japanese manga, anime and video games in general the whole japanese culture to be short. one day after he gets fed up with a game and throws down a controller he gets a call from his second in command to his district saying that he found a human girl and in the demon world humans are fair game to normally be killed or sold to the highest bidder. when staz finds this out he orders his second in command to bring her to him little does he know that someone is attacking his district with carnivorious plants while he is questioning her. to make it a bit shorter he leaves the girl in his apartment alone after his second in command calls staz and lets him know whats going on, staz kills the guy with a moved that he calls "heart grip". when he heads back to his room and opens the door he sees a plant eating that very same girl and he destroys the plant and sees her bones after becomming sad the girl shows up naked as a ghost while shes complaining to him to give her some cloths he makes her a promise that he will find a way to revive her back into a human. with all that said thats all your going to get out of me since i like the series ive read all the way to chapter 20/27 and ill let u guys know 1 thing it gets alot better and alot funnier also.
Helvettiin on jotenkin eksynyt tavallinen kuolevainen ihmistyttö.
So, I just wrote a much longer and more grammatically correct review, but I accidentally lost it. I really don't have the patients to write it all out again, so I'll briefly cover the main points instead. Sorry if this seems kinda curt.
You'll probably enjoy Blood Lad if you like action and comedy that has a touch of horror. The mood and art style are remarkably similar to Soul Eater, so if you like that, then you'll probably enjoy Blood Lad as well.
The characters are unique and entertaining. They're one of the manga's strongest aspects. There's one giant exception, and she's the manga's largest problem: Fuyumi. She's painfully bland and personality-less. She's the foundation of the entire plot, and yet I can't think of a single adjective to describe her other than "large breasted." If she's treated as more than a plot device in future volumes, then I'll be able to recommend Blood Lad to almost any manga fan. As of the first two omnibuses, I'd only recommend it to those who like darker action comedies.
Of the two omnibuses I've read, Blood Lad gradually becomes better. It's not great, but it has the potential to become great. Along with that comes the possibility of becoming very very awful. I'm not sure whether Blood Lad will be great or awful, but I'm going to bet it will be worth the read.
