This book about Starfish sacrifices clarity and scientific accuracy for the sake of the rhyme scheme. I'll never understand why people insist on making cutesy rhyming text in non-fiction books for kids, rather than just trusting in children's natural curiosity about the world. It's a shame in this case, as the illustrations are vibrant and gorgeous.
This is a great early reader book with enough science for young kids. It's not 100% accurate science and knowledge is sometimes sacrificed for the sake of making the words rhyme. However it was a nice introductory book and made my daughter want to go and find out more from a proper textbook.
I have read this book to my kids since they were itty bitty. Read again to prepare for our trip to see tide pools and hopefully a starfish or two...krb 1/30/17
