Hanged as a lad for stealing food, Gregor, the notorious Sinclair Hound, was spared by a merciful laird. Although emotionally damaged and very silent, his devotion to Clan Sinclair, and especially the laird, is unwavering . . . until one of the Sinclair Jewels, Pearl, challenges that devotion and forces the Hound to make a fateful choice.
Pearl is a priceless lass . . .
As the youngest of the Sinclair Jewels, Pearl has made a place for herself among her clan, serving her people and doing her best to care for those who need help. Unlike her sisters, she has no interest in ever leaving her family. But when she's forced to choose between an unwanted marriage or taking holy vows, she makes a fateful mistake.
If she can't stay with her clan, she'll become a nun.
But once her sire tasks the Hound to escort her to the abbey, Pearl is forced to admit two she never really wanted to take holy vows and her fascination with the Hound can no longer be denied. As love becomes the greatest treasure of all, can Pearl and her Hound find a way to stay together, or will violence and family secrets keep them apart forever?
This novella was just a little slow at the start, but it quickly got rolling and took me on a wonderful adventure. It was a short, sweet, sensual love story between a Highland laird’s daughter and her protector. A story of deep, tender, true love that made my heart ache in the very best way.
I loved Gregor. He was just the epitome of a big, braw Highlands warrior, strong and silent, carrying physical scars from his earlier life and accepting and embracing the nickname Hound because he believed that’s all he was... a loyal hound who owed his life to his laird. He was so devoted to Pearl and the way he loved and cared for her gave me warm fuzzy feels. A note about steam: There wasn’t much and the two scenes were brief; I really wanted more. Loved the sensuality, though.
His lips hovered just over hers, close enough to feel her breath against his skin, close enough to lose himself in the way the firelight flickered in her wide eyes. He saw shock there, and confusion, and he cursed himself for presuming to touch her. But when he would untangle himself and stand, putting distance between them…her fingers tightened against his chest just briefly before she loosened her hold on him and lifted her hands to his face. He stilled, afraid to move, afraid to breathe. The soft tips of her fingers traced his jaw, then his cheeks. He held his breath, not daring to hope she might want to touch him the way he ached to touch her. When her feather-light caress reached his temples, she curled her fingers through his hair, tugging slightly… And pulled his face down on hers. He exhaled in surrender.
***
Her fingers traced the white scar. “Is this why ye dinnae speak?” she asked gently. “Yer throat was damaged?” He dropped his chin in acknowledgement. “Yet ye can speak.” Aye. His voice was long unused and raspy as hell, but he could speak. “Aye,” he said, louder than a whisper this time. The sound wasn’t pretty, and he winced slightly. “And do ye think…” She inhaled slowly. “Do ye think ye might say my name? As a boon to me?” It was a simple request, but just as shattering as her earlier request. “Aye…Pearl.” My jewel.
I love Scottish heroes and this one was no exception. I loved his backstory where he was caught stealing a sheep because his family was hungry and another laird hung him. Pearl's Father cut him down and took the boy home and he grew up there and they called the Sinclair Hound because he was devoted to the laird and his family. HE had watched Pearl, the h, grow up and loved her. She is kind of promised to the laird that hung the Hound but she doesn't want to do the h asks to go to a nunnery. The Hound is chosen to her cake her and off they go. They have quite the attraction and after being ambushed by bad people they take off on their own and find love. I really liked this book and I am excited for the others in the series. I love a silent handsome hero and when they came together it was magic. Very cute and very short. Makes me want to go find some more Scottish heroes! Nice read! 😍
If you like strong, silent types, this book will appeal to you. Gregor, the Sinclair's burly soldier and guard, comes by his devotion through gratitude. He watches the laird's youngest daughter from afar, but knows he isn't worth cleaning the mud from her boots. Pearl, for her part, loves her clan and enjoys watching the Hound spar against the other soldiers. I enjoyed their adventures and misadventures. Both were appealing characters whose love felt true. I picked up the next in the series and will definitely read the others when they are available.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 A really good read . Very enjoyable plot , the characters are well thought out , and if the Hound doesn’t set your heart pitter pattering nothing ever will. A great first story in the series.
The daughters of Laird Sinclair are all named after precious stones that were in a family heirloom , The youngest being Pearl . When her father decides to set her betrothal to a man twice her age she opts to go to a convent.
The Hound is a strapping highlander, scared and silent, a man who has protected the Sinclair Laird since being saved by him from certain death years earlier. He’s tasked with taking Pearl to her future life .
On route they find adventure and love , but will she continue on her path or can they find a life together. The thief and the jewel .
I will definitely read the others that are coming in this series. Caroline Lee has caught my eye now . And has been added to my list of favoured authors .
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
This was an awesome start for a new series. I liked the more adventurous part of their journey. And, of course, Caroline treated us with a great dose of erotica.
Very well written novela. 👏
Can't wait to read the rest and find out what happens with the clan's jewelry. 🙂
Decades ago, the legendary jewels in the Sinclair brooch went missing. Now it's up to a new generation of Jewels to restore the clan’s fabled talisman…and with it, their family’s power! Known only as the Sinclair’s Hound, the scarred and silent warrior owes his loyalty to the laird who saved him from hanging as a lad. As the youngest of the Sinclair Jewels, Lady Pearl has made a place for herself among her clan, serving her people and doing her best to care for those who need help. Unlike her sisters, she has no interest in leaving her family. But when she’s forced to choose between an unwanted marriage or taking holy vows, she makes a fateful mistake. If she can’t stay with her clan, she’ll become a nun. So her father tasks the Hound & three guards to escort her to the abbey, Pearl is forced to admit two things: she never really wanted to take holy vows and she can no longer deny her fascination with her bodyguard. Then the party is attacked & the guards give Hound the chance to flee with Pearl. The first book in the series about the four Sinclair daughters & it was a fun, entertaining, sometimes edge of the seat read. A very well written book with strong characters. I loved both Hound & Pearl & I especially loved how Hound became Gregor to her. The pair become close after they flee the attack & gradually their hidden feelings emerge. Not as irreverent as some of the authors other books but it is still witty & the chemistry between the pair becomes hotter the more time they spend together. A lovely romance & I can’t wait to find out more about the tapestry. My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Sweet, silent Gregor! Loved him to distraction! This book was so wonderful! I enjoy Caroline Lee’s rom-com very much, but I adored this angstier book. A feeling of deep love, respect and devotion permeated all the story and both characters are endearing, perfectly depicted and a joy to see ending up together. I wish I could read more of this kind of books, with smoothly flowing writing and uplifting stories. Five glorious stars! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Amazing story of Lady Pearl, the youngest of the Sinclair Jewels (the four daughters of the Sinclair Laird) and the Laird's loyal guardsman known only as the Hound. Loved these characters and the way their relationship grows from admiring each other to love. Ms Lee's storytelling draws you in and compels you to keep reading. 5+ stars.
Well, I wouldn't say it was "sizzling", but it was fine enough. Went by quite fast, so finished in one go. The couple was rather...cute? In fact, even though the ML is this huge (I think he was huge, probably, read it some while ago sooo) man who won't speak (...which actually was with good reason), somehow, and not just thanx to the FL's character...the book was...rather lovely? However it came to be, that's the impression I'm left with - no overly huge drama and quite nice.
This is the first book I have read from Caroline Lee - I found it to be entertaining and easy to read. I also enjoyed the audiobook version during my commute and thought the narrator did a good job of bringing the characters to life.
I love romances that bring two different types of people together and crossing a divide of classes adds an extra forbidden element to the love story. I knew going into this book that Caroline Lee is known to write light fluffy romances, full of anachronisms, featuring whimsical characters falling in love and living happily ever after. I expected this. However I found some aspects to be jarring and mildly annoying - when I read historical romance I enjoy the HISTORY aspect of the story just as much as the characters. I have decided that in order to read future books from Lee I will need to be in a particular mood, the same mood required for insta-love romance, a mood with little expectations.
Overall this was a good book, however it is sadly one I won’t likely remember or yearn to enjoy again.
This was a well written, quick read. Didn’t take me long to read this romance about the Sinclair Hound who loves the Laird’s youngest daughter. The hound, Gregor, does not speak mostly due to his criminal past but he’s devoted his life to watch over the Sinclairs. Pearl is the youngest daughter who seems to be super nice, sweet and caring to her clan. So of course the hound loves her. This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I fell in love with the main characters as they went on their physical and emotional journey together. I was ready to read book 2.
I absolutely loved this book. I just loved the characters and storyline so much. Pearl and Gregor were destined to be together. I can’t wait to read the 2nd Sinclair Jewels story. Now to a Brand New Kenna Kendrick book 🥳🥳 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🥰🥰
I am a big fan of Caroline Lee! This was a great start to a new to me series. Pearl doesn't want to be forced into a marriage so she tells her father she would like to be a nun. The Hound is charged with getting her to the abbey. The journey does not go as planned. Pearl and the Hound get closer as they return to the Sinclair lands.
I enjoyed the characters. The narrator, Antony Ferguson, was great!
"The Sinclair Hound" is book one in "The Sinclair Jewels" series by Caroline Lee. It is a great start to a series, and the characters make a way into your heart. I enjoyed reading Pearl and Gregor's story. Pearl is arranged to marry a man that she has no interest in by her father. Pearl decides she would rather become a nun than marry and have to move from her family land. Her father, the Laird, ordered his Sinclair Hound, Gregor, to escort her to become a nun. Gregor became a Sinclair Hound by being saved from death by Pearl's father. He feels he owes the Laird his life and will do anything for him. As he is escorting Pearl, he is having a hard time because he has grown feelings for her over the years, but he doesn't want to go against her father. This was a nice short read and I look forward to reading more in this series.
I didn’t hate this book but it’s not the kind of historical romance I really like. The writer admits, in a very funny way, that it’s not meant to be historically accurate and her books are for entertainment. It was entertaining enough for me to finish and give it three stars. There are some great steamy scenes and for some reason every book set in Scotland seems romantic. So, if you want a somewhat sexy, historically inaccurate romance set in Scotland enjoy this one!
The Sinclair Hound was a really good read. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, just wished for a bit more substance to the story as a whole!
Pearl, the youngest of 4 daughters of the Sinclair laird, and Gregor, aka The Sinclair Hound had watched each other for years. Gregor knew he was not good enough for the laird's daughter, but would protect her and always watch her from afar. Pearl listened to her sister's talk about their feelings concerning men, but Pearl gave their chatter little regard. Pearl loved the Sinclair clan and wanted nothing more than to spend her life on Sinclair lands helping her clansmen. Her father had other ideas, and arrange a marriage for Pearl with Laird Sutherland, and Pearl knew this man was so much older than her, and his lands were far from home. Pearl told her father she wanted to go into the convent instead. He very reluctantly, sending The Hound and 3 other good men to escort Pearl to the convent.
Things did not go as planned on their way to the convent, giving Pearl and Gregor time together. While Gregor tried to hold to his pledge to the laird, his feelings for Pearl made his cast all good intentions aside.
Theirs was a rather round about way to a happy ending, and not without its problems!
I was so pleased reading The Sinclair Hound that I ordered the next book in the series!
Laird Sinclair named each of his daughters after the jewels in the lost Sinclair Jewels. No one knows exactly what happened to them or where they are: a mystery that needs an answer. However, he holds each of his daughters with love in his heart. Still, no one knows much about the Sinclair Hound, either. He does not speak, guards the Laird with his life and has spent most of his life in devotion to the clan. Pearl, the youngest of the daughters, devotes her energy to caring for the members of the clan. Her life is complete, until her father decides it is time for her to marry. She refuses and decided that it is better to become a nun, then marry the man her father chose. Her father tasks the Hound and a group of men, with escorting her, to the abbey where she will take her vows. During the journey, Pearl finds that she is not wanting to take the vows and her feelings for the Hound can not longer be denied. Just how will this adventure end; all I could do was keep turning the pages. What a wonderful introduction to The Sinclair Jewels
Another sweet fun book from this author. Her characters made me laugh out loud and smile. Pearl does not want to get married, instead she wants to stay home for her people. The Hound, Gregor, as Pearl finds out his name, is in love with Pearl but thinks she is not good enough for her. Escapades happen along with some light sexy times.
I absolutely loved this book. I just loved the characters and storyline so much. Pearl and Gregor were destined to be together. I can’t wait to read the 2nd Sinclair Jewels story. Now to a Brand New Kenna Kendrick book 🥳🥳 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Pearl is the youngest Sinclair Jewel. The Laird has four daughters and each is a jewel.
Pearl is youngest but also the one who works the hardest for the clan. She sews with cottagers, brings food to them and entertains their children. Her life is made up of caring for others. Although she is the laird’s daughter, she acts almost as a servant. That is what makes her happy.
When her father wants to marry her to a man who is as old as he is, she refuses. She really wants to stay with her clan and continue to help them.
When her father does not seem open to her staying with the clan, Pearl gets it into her head to become a nun and serve God. When she tells her father, he tries to discourage her. But, when she will not be discouraged, he assigns his Hound to get three other warriors and take her to the convent.
The Sinclair Hound is a warrior. His name is Gregor. He has been with the Laird since he was 16 and he was saved from being hung. His entire life for 10 years has been to guard his laird and do whatever it takes to protect the entire family. He seldom speaks, he is one of the bravest men in Scotland and he has admired Pearl from afar.
While they are traveling to the convent, they are attacked. It appears the 3 other warriors are all dead. Gregor is wounded and he and Pearl are the only ones to escape from the attack.
This is a pretty quick read.
I liked Pearl and I liked Gregor very much. It is evident that they are perfect for one another. And although they basically have never spoken, they have learned quite a bit about one another.
The story basically is about Pearl and Gregor learning to communicate. It seems their goals in life are very similar.
This is a quick read but could have been even quicker if some of the long descriptions had been edited.
Highlands 13th Century "He followed her when he could just to make sure she was safe. But he wondered how it would feel if she were to smile at him. But is was useless to even consider because Pearl was a lady, one of the Sinclair Jewels. And he? He was her father's Hound." paraphrashed from the thoughts of Gregor, who was devoted to Laid Sinclair who had saved him as a lad from death. He was the devoted "Hound"! When one of the Laird's daughters Pearl is to bethrothed to a man much older than her, she decides she would rather go to a convent. All she truly desired was to stay at home forever and care for the people of their clan. So her father has his Hound and a several men escort her to the convent where she will live out her life. As their journey begins and she spends time with him, she finds that she truly does not want to go to the abbey and take her vows. She begins to have feelings for the Hound and of course he has always had them for her, but what could come of them? He is a servant and she is a Jewel! A wonderful emotional journey that has a few twist and turns along with a mystery that will keep you turning the pages quickly! I have read several stories by Caroline Lee and she never fails pull me into the story and not let go until the end! I cannot wait to read more in this series!
