Excellent introduction to this important tool. 'Mesh' integration of technology with Disaster Response Recovery (DRR) is happening in almost every field; as Disaster Management (DM) is integrated into ever more challenging environments. This book is a must read for anyone involved in DM/DRR work.

I'm trying to learn as much as possible about this subject right now due to my grad school/career interests (GIS for urban planning and disaster relief). The book succeeds in conveying the type of information I want as a newbie to the field: a clear taxonomy of the different stages of disaster management, a plethora of ArcGIS screenshots, and real life examples of the kind of jobs I could get. The language is not overly complicated. I feel more comfortable with the presentation of the material here than I do with the presentation of the material in that mammoth GIS textbook I've been working my way through.

Rather one sided in disaster response. For the most part, the author spoke of wild fires and fire fighters, not all too much else, and with disasters, there is a great deal more that could be discussed. I rather think that this book needs an addendum or futher volumes. Nonetheless, it was very informative and interesting.
