Since I was a child, I've always followed my mother to the local book stall or incense shop just before the Lunar New Year to get the latest copy of the Tong Sing for the coming year. Had always wondered what's written in it, as I'm unable comprehend the the traditional and ancient chinese way the text is written.

Was therefore rather excited when I found this English Translation, but it turn out to be somewhat of a disappointment as the author does not seem to fully understand the wisdom within, and had therefore interpreted some parts wrongly.

I can't said about all the topics, as I do not have full knowledge of them myself but one serious mistake which is clear,is in the section on I Ching. He had mistakenly described the procedure of drawing the lines of the hexagram as being from top to bottom instead of from bottom to top as it should be done. To follow the wrong procedure would mean that the reading would be in error and totally different from the answer which the I Ching wishes to give the person seeking the advice!

Though I would give the original Tong Sing a 5 stars rating,I would only give this translation 2 stars.

If one believes in past lives, I am 110% certain that in one of my past lives I was Chinese living during the Tang Dynasty! I purchased the 2015 revised and updated edition of this book, and it connects with me personally on so many levels. The Chinese say that living life is an art, and continuing to learn and educate myself on Chinese wisdom, I believe the Chinese culture has been getting that art correct for many, many years. As a mental health therapist, I discuss the goal to live every moment with purpose, to have awareness, to live in the moment, and to be mindful of self, and this book is a wonderful companion to what I practice in my personal and professional life. So many important wellness-based aspects of daily life are explored through the lens of the Chinese way of life. Yes, some are just scratching the surface, but I believe this book gives readers a purposeful start regarding important wellness topics/aspects of life. If one is looking for a place to start to extend knowledge of self and life through the lens of the Chinese approach to these matters, this book is a solid place to start. Also, it looks great displayed wherever someone is living.

A good dose of Eastern knowledge and wisdom on a variety of topics, subjects and issues. It is said to be lucky to have a Tong Sing in the house too, I bet you did not know!

Something of an almanac and encyclopaedia, it is an interesting read, but I would suggest to dip in and out of random chapters rather than tackle it as a novel from start to finish.

Very interesting I thought.

I think this is good for a general overview on information that is already known in greater depth or a basic intro/overview of each topic. There is so much info covered and so many topics that nothing is very complete but it's all interesting..enjoyed it anyway.
