This is a horrible horrible book.It promises to foster 'critical thinking' and 'rationality'.By the end you will be gibbering the left faction of the Democratic parties ideology and proclaiming it 'rational' and 'critical thought' never having honestly examined it.

I couldn't finish the book such was the patronising tone, one sided argument, pretentiousness, sanctimony, and bullying dressed up as rationality. Socrates is listed as an example of intellectual humility..I think someone needs to re read their Socrates..or perhaps that's an apt error on their part. The book borrows a mindset from CBT psychology but its now been pruned of the emotional and spiritually balancing elements and presented as a tome with bullet marked dictums based on being some kind of bizarre pariah devoted to robotically rationalising your whole life.

They give an example of how someone can reason their way out of a relationship by being coldly rational (i.e.' changing your thinking') but they seem to forget no one 'reasons' their way into a relationship. They could do themselves a favor and read some material by someone in the same political camp as themselves i.e. George Lakoff, who has pointed out that about 98% of our thinking is actually unconscious. Of course throughout the book they harp on about bringing your conscious thouhgts to the surface so you can engage with them. There is just very little evidence that we can control our unconscious in this way, in fact for all the assaults on the wishful thinking and pipe dreaming of the right, this idea itself is quite an example. Which brings me onto another point, the book brings up hypocrisy again and again and yet it doesnt seem to be able to stop breaking its own 'commandments' throughout the text.

Its hard to sum up my feelings on this book, but I certainly have my suspicions. I would say whichever think thank wrote the book has worked out that there is a demographic out there with Ayn Rand/ New Atheist type proclivities and is trying to snatch their 'minds' before they lose to the other side. How else to explain the liberal dogma squashed into a every section incomprehensibly?..not to mention the Vulcan advice for the audience. The book makes a vice out of self interest, prejudice and all that stuff but when any cult starts making a vice out of your instincts to resist their brainwashing, you might want to trust your instincts for once! What a nightmare, do yourself a favour, go out and read some analytic philosophy and some neutral critical thinking books, and when you think for yourself..genuinely do that..not criticise one set of prejudices and insert the 'better kind'.

I downloaded this book when it was free from Barnes and Noble.com's Nook store, and I thank them for giving me the opportunity to read different authors.

This is the kind of book you wish some other people would read before they would even open their mouths; and yet, I would not recommend it as the best source of information about critical thinking for there is too much self-reference in such statements as "read our other books and visit our website." Too frequently in the examples of how to come to a critical thought is a liberal viewpoint without sufficient supporting analysis. To use their words, there may be a socio-centric bias.

I have no problems with the thirty themes we readers are asked to examine, and I like the suggestions for backward reading which is reading the works of critical thinkers from previous eras.

I read this book at the same time as I read an earlier edition which was called 25 Days to Better Thinking and Better Living: A guide for improving every aspect of Your Life. I did not see that much improvement in the revision and expansion.

This is an excellent book for those who want to think differently and plan to overcome barriers in their social life and career. The book contains various topics that help in improving ways of life and thinking.

Its discusses and provides material that can help us improve our thinking, and become better people in our societies. I am pretty impressed about the book, and won't hesitate to recommend it to others.

This is a brilliant guide. Each day I found myself broadening my thoughts and reflecting deeper.

While I don’t completely agree with the author(s), I value their work very much, and wish this challenge was more widespread.

Perhaps useful if you're new to attempting to improve your 'critical thinking' skills, but the advice is very basic, and this reads like a long blog post. I didn't need to pick up a book to tell me not to automatically trust what I read in the news.
