From Opposite Sides

As secrets unveil themselves, Skye realises that
maybe the past is best kept buried.

Skye Clemons has a bit of a reputation. Unable to escape her messy past, she has one clear goal: pass her language and literature course at college and get accepted into Sloanville University.

If only it was that simple!

Now having to share a class with wealthy students from Lakeside College, the biggest divide in college history is about to begin, starting with Skye’s rocky relationship with the new boy, Grayson Swain. They say that opposites attract, but Grayson is proof that this myth doesn’t always ring true. He is the most annoying human being Skye has ever encountered, and when they are paired up for a collaborative class project, they are expected to put their substantial differences aside and get to know each other, which won’t be easy because they originate from opposite sides of the spectrum.

Fights and conflict seem to follow Rory Keaton around wherever he goes, and he is a ticking time bomb. He also knows way more about Skye’s past than he should and makes it his mission to judge her, especially when they become co-workers after Skye is forced to get a part-time job at Trinity Stables to avoid facing eviction by her cranky landlord.

Working with the enemy, Skye’s journey is about to unfold amidst clashes, conflicts, revelations, and unexpected alliances.

My name is Bryony Sier, and I'm from a small town called Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. I released my first novel 'From Opposite Sides,' in June of this year, and I have just finished writing the sequel.

I have been writing stories since a very young age. I struggled so much in high school to fit in and was bullied. I turned to songwriting and storytelling, which saved me from the harsh reality of what was currently going on around me. I would spend all my time writing stories and music, which became a healthy way of channelling my emotions and feelings and putting them down on paper.

When I'm not writing books or reading, I am writing songs, playing the guitar and singing to crowds of people from all over the UK.

I read this book within a week as it was so gripping I couldn't put it down. The chapters are easy to read and broken up nicely. I found the story romantic, funny with the cat scenes, and also you really get to know the characters and can relate to a lot of emotions and hardships that's portrayed in the storyline. Also I like that mental health is touched upon within the story as so many struggle with this today. A great story.

Warning, my review contains spoilers.

I started this book as a hater, I thought every character was too immature and I can’t read another love story focusing on someone who is so full of themselves and acts like the world is against them while none of it is their own fault. When Skye was going on about having no friends, that’s on you girl. She’s mean to everyone and needs to get over herself. (But they are young and I’m old, so I did say to myself that is normal for their age.) Learning about Skye’s mother, it is easy to see why she acts the way she does. Saying that, even with their immaturity, I liked the banter between Skye and Greyson. I feel the book itself has some good humor moments.

I have a love/hate relationship with love triangles because I end up liking both people in the triangle. Skye develops more of a dating relationship with Rory, who in my head looks like Ian Somerhalder. I really liked his character, I felt he was the first to grow by admitting that he was wrong about Skye. It also doesn’t bother me that she became his knight in shining armor, he was there for her and never asked for anything in return. Now I know Skye has no feelings for Greyson and I can believe their characters can be just friends, however, a part of me wanted more. I really liked them together and I felt they helped each other grow as people.

I know I said I started as a hater, but it didn’t take me long to enjoy the book. It is a great YA book that lets you get to know about each of the characters without it being messy. I am a little disappointed that Skye left for University, I was ready for her to become full on horse girl, I think it’s because we see her working so hard with Dante and her writing moment was only about Greyson. If she wouldn’t have gone to university the book would have ended differently so I guess I can also say I’m glad she didn’t stay because I did like the ending to the story. I feel it will leave readers (myself included) excited for the next book.

I was captivated by this book. Skye, the main character, felt incredibly authentic, and the character development was superb. Each person felt fully realized, offering a deep insight into their personas. What struck me most was its exploration of the challenges faced by teenage girls and young adults, illustrating how these experiences can shape one's life indefinitely. The overarching message resonated deeply: never judge a book by its cover.

Additionally, the book handled mental health with grace, avoiding blame and instead fostering understanding. Skye's empathy towards her mother, recognizing the impact of mental health on her behaviour, was both poignant and commendable.

Overall, it was an engrossing read, leaving me eager for the next instalment.

I honestly love this book, it felt so easy to go through it. I couldn’t choose between Grayson and Rory, and still can’t understand who I like more. This story takes special place in my heart, I love all about it. It wasn’t easy and funny to read stories of main characters, their lives are full of sadness and endurance tests. In overall I gave this story 4.5 stars and would recommend everyone to read it 💖

I found myself gripped into the story quite quickly, the characters were all very likeable and I was intrigued to see where it would all end up.

I am really glad I took the time to read this and I’m looking forward to book 2 and how things end up for Skye.

From Opposite Sides was likened to Opposites Attract by Jacqueline Lee. I'm a bit of a sucker for certain tropes, and Opposites attract is one of those, especially with enemies to lovers thrown in there.

I had an almost instant dislike for every character we met, right off the bat.

I felt Skye was immature and downright rude, even if some of her points toward Grayson were valid. I couldn't believe a college student would act that way, then had to tell myself that grade levels are different from the US to the UK and I'm sure many places all over the world. Skye was around 18, so it made sense she was immature, that all of the characters were.

That being said, I did enjoy some of the banter Skye had with both Grayson and Rory.

I did not like Skye's mother. Skye is still a teenager, yet has to play mother and sometimes nurse-maid to her own mother.

I'm a natural hater of the love triangle trope. I'm not sure where it stems from. Maybe because my choice is never chosen or maybe because nine times out of ten, the two love interests are too similar, or maybe its because the trope doesn't make sense.

Skye is thrust into a professional relationship with Rory, working at a horse farm shockingly owned by Grayson's family.. her self-proclaimed nemesis.

Simultaneously, Skye is thrust into a.. professional type school relationship with Grayson, working on a class project to get to know the other person. Personally, I thought Skye's paper was a bit weak and didn't show any skill she might possess, but Grayson's was wonderful.
