this is the type of book you want to buy in bulk and give everyone at christmas. I hoarded my library’s copy until they wouldn’t let me renew anymore, and then immediately bought it on Amazon. life changing- if you let it be.
This book is the first book that I have ever read that made me feel like I could make changes in my life. It is perfectly applicable to the lifestyle society has made us all adopt and reminds me of how we all struggle together. Not in secret and not exclusively. This book truly has helped me slow down and enjoy my life, not scroll it away.
I loved the concept of the book and mostly the style. Some of the actual how tos to put in practice are a bit unrealistic for regular middle class families. I however hated all of the references to drinking. Since this is a Christian self help, I felt that the drinking/wine aspect should be left out.
I read this every year in January because I always need the reminders, especially after the holiday season. I try to implement at least one of the ideas each year as a rebel resolution. Driving the speed limit has been pretty life changing, I show up to places so much less stressed!!
A shift in thinking is definitely needed in the lives of North Americans. JMC highlights the challenges of hustle culture and some ways to return to a normal pace of life. I'm struggling to apply the practices in this book. Not because they aren't healthy, but because they are hard.
