She may not be my mate, but I will do whatever it takes to stay by her side…ABBY
I have a secret. I’m pregnant. With a human baby. And not a much-needed girl the Sea Sand Gahns would welcome. Nope. I’m carrying a 100% human male. So when the kind, quiet Bitter Sea warrior Kohka tells me he’s leaving for the Deep Sky settlement, I convince (aka, beg) him to take me along. I just need to get away from here. Once in Deep Sky territory, I can lose Kohka and have my secret baby in a cave somewhere. Alone. It may not be the best plan, but it’s the one I’ve got. The only problem? The longer I’m with Kohka, the less I want to leave him. He’s stoic and self-effacing and awkwardly adorable in the sweetest possible way. He makes me feel safe. But if he finds out I’m pregnant, he’ll drag me back to the settlement as fast as he can to try to keep me protected, even if it’s the last thing my child needs. The safety of my baby boy must come first. I have to figure out my next steps in the Deep Sky territory on my own. Even if those steps lead me away from the one man I suddenly want to run to.
KOHKA
I once thought nothing was as beautiful as the Bitter Sea. Seeing Abby’s face up close for the first time proved that wrong. It’s not only her face I like – it’s everything. Her kindness, her generosity, her laugh… The way that, when she looks at me, I almost feel special. I was not called by the Kell. She is not my mate… And yet, I want her to be. So when she comes to me for help, asking me to take her into the Deep Sky without telling me why, I cannot refuse her. I know that she is keeping something from me. But I decide I do not care. As long as I get to remain by her side a little bit longer. But it doesn’t last. Once we enter the Deep Sky, Abby disappears. And everything goes terrifyingly dark. I may never deserve her after losing her like this. But I will tear it all apart – the world, myself – to get her back.
Right after I said I probably wouldn’t read more of the series when I read the first book 😭 I’m back hehe and I’m so glad I read through the blurbs and decided to try another in this series out. Apparently, I have zero self-control when it comes to aliens.

I really enjoyed this book. Kohka is quiet and reserved—basically the strong, broody type who says about three words per chapter 😂. Meanwhile, Abby is warm, expressive, and brave. (basically a walking conversation starter) Their personalities contrast in a way that makes their interactions compelling and keeps the story engaging.
Abby has a secret—she’s pregnant, and her child is 100% male human. She fears the aliens might harm her baby, which forces her to make careful choices. After meeting Kohka, she asks for his help to leave the place she’s been staying and protect her child… but the twist is he doesn’t know exactly why she needs him, He just can’t say no because apparently broody alien warriors are programmed to be instantly protective 🤭🩷 As they travel together, the slow-burn attraction does too, and I was internally screaming: “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER!” The tension & attraction build with each step, especially as Abby struggles with whether to tell him the truth or run away to keep him safe.
Kohka is strong, protective, and steadfast. He’s the kind of guy who carries you through danger without complaining (and honestly, who wouldn’t want that? 🙄). The way he gradually opens up and lets Abby in is satisfying, and their small, quiet moments of care are honestly adorable.
The story keeps you invested with its slow-burn romance, suspense, and high stakes. The questions hang over the characters the entire time—will Abby choose to tell Kohka the truth, or will she leave to protect him? Can their connection survive if they aren’t fated mates? Do they end up together, or are they destined to be apart? These questions make the story impossible to put down, and I found myself eagerly turning the pages to see how everything would unfold.

things to know about the book ↓
👽 secret pregnancy 👽 opposites attract 👽 virgin hero 👽 protective hero to the max
I loved this book but ... at this point I don't think of it as a part series because I have lost track of the story and keep forgetting characters and past events! But I did enjoy the story and Ursa's writing style was beautiful as always!
4.5 ⭐️ I am blessed to be an ARC reader for Queen Ursa Dax. I got the email with the ARC at 9PM and lied to myself that I was going to savor it and read it slowly. Clown Hours™️ here because I finished it in less than 24 hours.
I will scream about this series until the end of my days. While each book in the series has the same overall story (duh, that’s the point), Ursa does an absolutely phenomenal job of of creating such different, interesting, and compelling stories for each human woman on this alien planet. Abby is no different, and reading her story (beyond just the romance) and her determination to be the best mom for her kid was everything. Kohka was so adorably awkward, but we also love a MC that is DOWN BAD from the start. I am such a sucker for “families of choice” and I sometimes had to just cradle my kindle to my chest and take a minute throughout this book because it just did it all for me.
Still love the bits and pieces of past stories (Kat and Galok in the beginning had me cackling) and potential future stories (Nasrin and Thaleo?!). I am also PUMPED for the introduction of the stone sky gods!! The world-building and the creation of the lore in these books has me in a chokehold, I cannot wait to add the new series to my obsessions.
The only reason I docked half a star was because there are some couples in the series that are my all-time favorites, but if we are going on vibes and my enjoyment alone, each and every one is 5 stars. So yes, in sum: Ursa Dax hit it out of the park again with this book. Loved every single second of it & definitely will continue to scream about each and every book
I liked this! I went into this book dreading it, because it had my least favorite trope. Ugh. Pregnancy 🥴
Buuuut, I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed this. I'm kind of jaded when it comes to pregnancy. I loved my pregnancy and birth, but the experiences afterwards left a sour taste in my mouth. I guess I have some trauma when it comes to the father of the baby and bonding and that a HEA is even possible. This was refreshing and I did not mind the pregnancy all that much. It was hard to read. And I felt bitter and sad and it brought up some hard memories, but I really wanted to read this!
I'm chosing not to write anything negative here because I'm afraid my own feelings and negative experiences are clouding my judgement. This is a good book. The pregnancy and everything afterwards felt realistic in a perfect world kind of way. Idk, like I said, it's really hard for me to put this into words without being really negative because my own feelings. I enjoyed the book and I love this series overall.
I did enjoy that while they were having sex he tasted her milk!! And expressed more out and drank that too. Whew. I did not like my boobs touched once I gave birth so I did not expect to find that so hot! But it was! Also, I am a huge sucker for biting. He bit her not only on the inner thigh, but on her shoulder/neck area too, which I loved. There is something about the mmc going slightly crazed and out of control that I love I also loved that at one point she went to touch him and he instantly had an orgasm. Like I said, I love when the mmc is not in control of himself I'm interested to read more about the stone sky gods and what's his face, the one with the scarred eye and the white hair

This was suuuuuper cute. Oh my gosh Kohka was such a good character. I liked Abbey too, but Kohka stole the show. Heavy pregnancy trope but it didn’t feel kitschy.
The basis of the story felt a little flimsy but it didn’t bother me enough to not read. But it did feel like lazy story writing.
This was definitely more of a slow burn for an alien romance and I really loved that.
This is the second book by Dax that I liked quite a bit, but so far a theme I’m kind of seeing is that the MMC can be overly harsh on themselves. I hope that is just these books and not all/most of them. Yeah, I like accountability, but not needles self blame where it’s unwarranted. Groveling for grovel’s sake is just cringy.
I was a little hesitant about this book because I hate the secret baby trope. However, this play on it, where the baby wasn’t the MMCs, worked out. The level of threat to the baby was real, as was Abby’s need to keep him a secret. I wish the burn rate would have been slowed down a bit, but the story was adorable. Kohka is the goat.
Spice: 3.5/5
Triggers: childbirth, violence and gore, animal attack
Not me tearing up while reading a bonkers alien romance in this series. Again.
What I’ve loved about this series (this is book 14 btw 😅) is the way it has maximum emotions, maximum action-danger, and maximum alien weirdness. And this book was very that 😆
I loved this premise: our human lady had a human baby bun in the oven when she was abducted from earth. A boy one. And the elements of this alien culture that have been hilariously entertaining in all the previous books… not so cute and fuzzy in this particular situation. So our human lady wanted to get the hell out of Dodge—aka go into hiding and give birth completely on her own while surviving in the alien wilderness. Let’s gooo!
The monstrous snout-instead-of-face alien hero she gets to help her? Oh my little angel, Kohka! I love the way this author writes pining heroes. And the way these characters all became a little family. Oh my gosh, my heart was exploding.
I stumbled across Ursa Dax and her romance Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords series after finishing up reading books from another author. I wanted something a bit different from normal romance and decided that Sci Fi romance was the go because anything can go. Let me tell you I really enjoyed them and read the whole series one straight after the other, Alien men in all sizes and shapes, all growly and protective of their mates was just what I needed. Of course, it takes a while for the abducted Human women to come around but that is just part of the fun. Ursa’s world building makes it so easy to imagine the world she has created, and the characters are so easy to fall in love with. If you love Sci Fi romance that is messy, sexy, a little alien erotica and fated mates then Ursa is your gal. I was not disappointed, and I know you won’t be either.
THIS BOOK GAVE ME SUCH BIG FEELINGS. THE IDEA OF ABBY TRYING TO BE HYPER INDEPENDENT AND HAVE HER BABY ON HER OWN, JUST RESONATED WITH МЕ.КОНКА IS ABSOLUTELY AN OVERALL GREEN FLAG. THE MOST SUPPORTIVE, AMAZING MALE MAIN CHARACTER THAT COULD EVER EXIST. THIS BOOK IS WHY I READ ABOUT ALIENS, AND NOT ABOUT HUMAN MEN, BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY YOU COULD CONVINCE ME THAT A HUMAN MAN WOULD BE AS AMAZING AS KOHKA.
I loved this! I loved Kohka and Abby! Kohka is probably my top favorite of the warriors now, maybe tied with Lerokan.
This was a solid relationship building story. The cover doesn't remotely do Kohka justice since the cover looks like a biology model of the muscular system with no skin on it. Kohka is a lizardy beast who is quiet, thoughtful, kind, generous, and had it drilled into him his whole life that he is not enough and all he has to offer is loyalty and devotion to his king.
Abby, a chatty, optimistic, 6'2" broad human woman is having NONE. OF. THAT. She gets to inform Kohka that he's beautiful and worthy and enough for her. Kohka in return gets to help Abby not be as alone as she thought she had to be and they build their little family. It was sweet and I enjoyed it a lot.
This is another example of pregnancy handled well in a romance. The pregnancy wasn't a magical shortcut to happiness or full of sunshine and rainbows. The pregnancy wasn't treated like a separate entity happening that could be ignored when convenient. It was front and center and involved good and bad moments. There were times of great emotional and physical pain but also of great reward and joy.
Moreover, the pregnancy was directly plot relevant. It was literally the reasoning behind Abby's every decision for the first half of the book. There's a lot more I could say about the pregnancy and implications about timing and stuff but ultimately, eh.
The brief appearance of the Stone Sky Gods was ...intriguing. I am definitely interested in learning more about them in the spinoff series coming later this year. I was pretty sad that, despite the happily ever after ending, Kohka
Looking forward to seeing what happens between Thaleo and Nasrin and we better get updates about this baby in future Sea Sands books or else. (what ever happened to them trying to grow beans or some kind of tiny garden in the Sea Sands cliffs? don't think I forgot!)

I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my voluntary, honest review.
“What the new women needed, the new women got.”
Abby is pregnant before they ever step foot onto the planet and she’s been hiding it, but eventually that baby has to come out. Fallo is Fallo, and she decides the only real choice is to have her baby away from the safety of the settlement. Enter Kohka, a Bitter Sea warrior who she calls upon while trying to make an analgesic for all the pregnant ladies from Bitter Sea warrior mating fluid.
Because it’s very obvious and even included in the CW of the book, I’m going to be discussing those topics here. If you avoid CW to avoid spoilers, avoid this review.
Sometimes having the FMC pregnant by someone else can really ruin a story for me, but that isn’t what happened here. Abby got prego, decided to keep it, and the story that unfolds around this is really a love story. The romance is between Abby and Kohka, obviously, but there’s a secondary love that shines just as brightly in this story, and that’s a parental love. These loves are never in competition for one another, but instead compliment one another really beautifully and sweetly. This is an A game of love stories.
Kohka is very self-depreciating, very humble especially after our bae of book 13, Errok. Abby is intelligent, fierce, and determined, and she is protective without pushing Kohka away.
We get to see some glimpses of some past characters, including a rare one from book 10 (Alien Claw), which I think is going to have some very interesting implications for this world and future things for this author.
I said it once and I will say it again, I can’t wait for the next one. And I’m really hoping it’s going to be Thaleo getting WRECKED by Nesrin.
I started this and I could not wait to keep going. I ignored dinner to read this. I have no regrets. However, if pregnancy is a no-go for you, avoid this book.
Im not usually a fan of pregnancy in my romance books but this was done so well. Abby is pregnant with a human baby boy and fears for his safety once he's born since both the sea sand and deep sky Gahns aren't exactly open to males in general and especially not humans.
She comes up with a plan to fake her death and give birth/raise him alone. Enter Kohka. He's completely smitten by her even if the Kell hasn't called him and agrees to take her alone to the other human settlement. He's shy and awkward and has been told his whole life he's nothing special.
They say a man becomes a father once he holds his child and that's exactly what happens to him. He helps care for him, change him and cleans. He's basically the model father anyone could want.
All of this before they even admit their love for eachother.
I'm giving 4 stars because it was a bit slow at times and like I said I'm not really interested in pregnancy.
Also Errok has some great one liners in this book and it reminded me how much I love that arrogant man!
“I wondered who she was in the darkness when nobody else would see.”
Ursa Dax once again delivered perfection and she positively surprised me with this story. Abby's options start to fade away so she fights her small silent battles to hide her secret, when she meets Kohka for mating fluid sample collecting they have such obvious moments that you do not need a Lavrika to know they are made for each other. But Abby’s secret may be a bigger problem than imagined. I really loved the way how the book throws its plot twists at me or the funny moments between these two. The slow burn is sweet and so hot! I loved how both take their time for each other. Khoka is the GOAT with his sweetness and caring nature. A real gentleman. And I SCREAMED when I got introduced to new characters! BRAND NEW ONES! You should definitely not skip this brilliant book or you get regrets for life. There! I warned you!
OMG this book was amazing. Despite the fact that we haven’t seen much of her at all after 14 books, her tale was the most interesting with the most unexpected twist.
Kohka was a great MMC, with such low confidence in himself and his greatness that you couldn’t help but root for him.
Their journey was crazy but amazing and heart warming- the cutest love story to boot. I just loved them both.
This was good!!! Met all of my expectations. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Was a little slow-moving at times, but that’s just because of the nature of the characters and plot in this one. Ursa did it again!!
PS, if you read this series looking for alien smut, you won’t get it. There’s a scene or two, but it’s very clear that is not the primary objective of this series. I 100% recommend though!!!
ABBY and KOHKA: Bitter Sea love- A Journey beyond Fate, Secrets, and Sacrifice in Deep Sky Territory
Introducing "Alien Hope" by Ursa Dax, the fourteenth mind-blowing installment in the epic series "Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords." Brace yourself for a wild ride filled with secret pregnancies, territorial threats, and the coziest cave births you've ever imagined. Yes, my friends, cozy caves are all the rage now!
Our fearless heroine, Abby, finds herself carrying a 100% human baby in a world where that's a major taboo. It's like carrying a forbidden fruitcake or something. Each tribe's ruler views this as a dire threat because, apparently, babies have this peculiar tendency to grow up into men. And as we all know, men are simply terrifying creatures, right? So what does Abby, the rational mom-to-be, do? She turns to Kohka, the brooding and socially awkward warrior, and asks him to whisk her away to some remote settlement. Totally foolproof plan, right?
But here's the kicker: the more time Abby spends with Kohka, the more she realizes she doesn't actually want to escape from him. He's like the epitome of stoicism and social awkwardness, but somehow, he has this irresistible charm that keeps Abby hooked. I mean, who needs escape plans when you're questioning your life choices because of a socially awkward warrior, am I right?
Meanwhile, Kohka is just your average guy who thought he was destined to be single forever. The mystical bird that reveals fated mates, Kell the Bitter Sea version, conveniently forgot to summon him. Fate was like, "Nah, you're good, buddy." But against all odds, he can't resist the magnetic pull he feels towards Abby. Love can be pretty nonsensical sometimes. When you find "the one," it's like discovering the last slice of pizza—it just clicks!
Of course, things take a dark turn when they venture into the enigmatic Deep Sky. Abby pulls a vanishing act not once, but twice! First, a monster snatches her (yikes!), but Kohka swiftly takes care of that like a warrior boss. And then, just when you think it can't get more mysterious, she mysteriously disappears again to execute her genius plan of giving birth all on her own. Kohka is left grappling with darkness and overwhelming fears. Talk about an emotional roller coaster! But because happy endings are an absolute requirement. Kohka unravels the mystery behind Abby's disappearance and stands by her side during the birth. No judgments, no questions asked. From that moment on, he's head over heels for the 100% human baby, and in his heart he claims the little one as his own. Abby even asks Kohka to give "their" son a Bitter Sea name, and they choose Kier, which means "hope." Prepare for a collective "aww" moment!
And now we have the picture-perfect found family trope with Abby, Kohka, and little Kier. Who needs the mystical bird Kell when we've got Vrika, the Deep Sky version, to show Kohka his true fated mate? Come on, fate, you can't outsmart true love! Baby Kier is safely tucked under the protection of an ensemble cast from the previous books, including Gahn Errok, Gahnala Stephanie, and, of course, Kier's dada, Kohka.
"Alien Hope" took me on an intergalactic adventure that left me starstruck. Trust me, it's a journey that's truly out of this world! I can't find enough words to express just how head over heels I am for this book.
🧡 “Whatever she needed, I’d find it. I’d do it. I’d be it.” ~~~ I loved Abby so much! She’s a pharmacological chemist and is helping in the development of a serum that will help all females give birth easier. Not only is she brilliant, but she’s also kind, compassionate and brave and a genuinely good person. Even more, she shows such courage throughout the story. But Abby is also keeping a precious secret and she’s willing to leave everything behind for it.
And Kohka is such a wonderful male! All Bitter Sea warriors are huge, dangerous, fearsome, protective and honorable. And Kohka is all that and more - he’s kind, helpful, good and just so irresistibly charming in his adorable awkwardness. He might think he’s just a “plain pebble”, but there’s nothing average about this warrior. He’s not a male of many words, but every word he utters is worth more than gold. He won my heart right from the start and I adored him more and more with each new page!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Abby and Kohka! When Kohka is sent back to the Deep Sky settlement, he gets an unexpected companion. And from the moment he met Abby he was so smitten with her and willing to do everything to keep her safe and happy. Those two were so wonderful together and I loved every second of their journey. And the more time they spend together, the more Abby was torn between keeping her secret or sharing it with the fearsome and quiet Bitter Sea warrior. I loved all the ways she showed Kohka that he is a wonderful male and that he could be loved for being exactly as he was. Even more, when everything was revealed, Kohka proved once again what an amazing, supportive and caring male he is. Every action of his showed how huge and good his heart is and completely melted mine. Kohka and Abby were so perfect for each other and, when they finally revealed their feelings for one another, the passionate moments they shared were off-the-charts hot and I couldn’t get enough! The Vrika chose well!
In addition, the storyline was phenomenal! Not only do we get to have another journey to the Deep Sky settlement and face the dangerous creatures living in the Death Plains. But a new monumental encounter also happens and I’m super excited to see how things will develop. With everything happening in the story, I was glued to the pages till the very end!
Overall, Alien Hope is another outstanding and wholesome addition to the series! It’s filled with adventure, surprises, danger, twists, drama, action, smoking-hot passion and spectacular characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it!
So a few things before I get into it completely. The beginning of this book almost had me putting it down at 4% because I hated it. I absolutely hated them using yet another being for experiments and their own needs (them being the selfish human females). And then there was a part where Kohka even states the obvious with this statement and I was bitter about it because it is so fucken true. "It seemed, more and more, that our lives and lands were no longer ruled by the customs that had always governed us, but instead by one new implacable and overriding law: What the new women needed, the new women got."
Now that aside, I was also worried about the kind of character Abby was going to be, especially from the first few pages but... I was pleasantly surprised that she wasn't what she seemed. I honestly think that she and Kohka are probably the best couple for each other out there and I didn't even care that he was a virgin because it suited him completely (unlike Lerokan, who had all the swagger and charm of a fuck boi and I was expecting him to be that, and not the virgin he was). I also loved their family dynamics and cried a few times with how sweet and perfect these two are.
My one issue (aside from the whole testing/experimenting thing between the Lavrika's blood and now the bitter sea men's mating fluid, and the heavily overuse of the human females ruined their culture to suit their own needs - completely not caring one but about the natives culture or deity or beliefs, etc..) was that it was a slightly poorly thought out book in the sense of how she got pregnant. Abby had a one nighter before she got abducted and then hid her pregnancy the whole time she was in the military faculty, the ship, and then on the new planet. While I understand her hiding it on the planet, one would think that the military isn't this fucken stupid as to not medically assets these women often to make sure they weren't sick or anything like that. Yes, I know these women weren't volunteers and didn't sign up for this but I doubt very much the military would possibly overlook the whole not giving them a complete medical check up to ensure they don't pose a risk to the others. I would have made more sense had she gotten drunk one night and slept with one of the military staff or something like that.

LOVED IT!!!! am i the only one who wants a whole series following keirs development??? typos were again very low my main issue i think is something that is overall in the series. the men whove fallen for their humans before the mating bond is set into place experience the mating bond as if they had already been summoned - and i do not like this. if it were dulled that would be better, but it seems to be presented as just as strong. in the first book the gahn was contimplating his feelings for the woman he had been sleeping with shifting and deepening as he aproached the lavrika caves, which imples such a deep bond feeling should not exist prior to summoning, and this irks me with how strongly the initial bonf khoka felt for her in this one was. i DO however love that the virka summoned him instead of the kell giving him his mate vision. i love the idea that the virka, kell, lavrika, and any other similar being is all interconnected thruought the whole planet, and i cant WAIT to see how it all ties into the planets whole being. im still worried about the whole stone sky god thing... im afraid it might drist too far into fantacy for the sifi romance that the series has been so far. ive LOVED all the humans scientific projects and developments so far and i would LOVE to see more. so im hoping that the stone sky thing will retain at least a bit of the sci element, or at least tie into the whole earth vs space colonization thing happening. its been a while since that plot line was developed... and id like to see more of the other humans pregnancies too as they develop and give birth to the half human aliens. id LOVE it if the stone sky thing leads into some of the other planets earth was trying to colonize/obtain resources from. i wonder how those projects are fairing compared to the sea sand planet one.... and what earth is planning on doing moving forward. it was quite nice to have valeria fall for an alien and join their side. id like something similar to happen so as to give a wider peak into earths operations and future motives/plans

This was 2.5 stars and my least favorite book in the series.
I felt like the focus of the book was on the pregnancy, giving birth, taking care of the baby. I didn't feel much romance between them.
I much preferred the earlier books in the series. Book 4 is really great.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER S P O I L E R S ............The heroine has been making medicine out of the Bitter Seas' "mating fluid" from their fangs that loosens vaginal muscles and allows heroines to have sex with a 10 foot tall alien guy.
The idea is that when giving birth, you will get an injection of this "mating fluid" with the aphrodisiac chemicals removed from it. So it helps you give birth more easily.
She is pregnant from a one night stand on Earth. She finds out it is a baby boy and is terrified the alien men will kill it because they don't want any competition for the human women. And they hate the human men for attacking them.
She decides to hide in the wilderness, give birth alone, and raise the child alone. This is her master plan. She has no weapons, and she never talks about hunting food. So I really didn't feel like this plan had any chance of success.
She didn't tell any of the human ladies about her pregnancy. She hid it for 9 months.
Anyway, she lies to the hero and asks him to take her with him to the Deep Sky settlement. She plans to slip away on the way there.
The hero follows her when she does and helps her give birth with his mating fluid directly from his fangs.
A few days after she's given birth, she's hoping she can have sex with him soon and that she heals quickly.
He helps her name the baby with a Bitter Sea name for hope.
Everything works out ok, and she is allowed to keep her son at the Deep Sky settlement.
Series: Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords #14 Rating: 4 stars - It was really good
Abby has a secret. She is pregnant with a human baby and a boy baby at that. She has kept it a secret for fear of what the Sea Sand Gahns will do since they don’t want any male humans on the planet. Desperate, she deceives the Bitter Sea warrior Kokha to take her to the Deep Sky territory where she hopes she can break away and live in a cave alone with the baby. Instead the longer she is with Kohka, the less she wants to leave him.
This was a very emotional book. Abby has been living in fear for 9 months and is desperate to protect her baby. She doesn’t trust anyone, not even Kohka after getting to know him. I really liked Abby and her drive to protect her child, but I do think she should have told Kokha what was going on before her labor hit because she knew what kind of person he was by then.
Kohka was a sweet and protective man who just wanted to take care of Abby. From the very beginning he was drawn to her and traveling to Deep Sky just enhanced those feelings. I really am enjoying these ones where they fall before the mate bond is confirmed by their Vrika/Lavrika/Kell. These two were really cute together and I enjoyed how Kohka stepped up to being a father so quickly.
This story also had another section about the sky gods who were mentioned in the Bitter Sea cave. We have an actual appearance and battle that causes a lot of damage. I don’t know how I feel about this being added to this series if I am being honest. It feels like a way to sell interest in another series because it doesn’t fit well with the overall story so far (at least to me it doesn’t). I just really want to see some progress about this war with the humans and it just keeps not happening.
The MMC of this book is one of my all-time favorites. I have rarely met a hero so modest, so sweet, so devoted. His personality is a radical opposite to the last MMC. Where Errok is blustering and loud, this MMC is thoughtful and quiet. When the two main characters meet, he approaches the MFC as she is talking to herself in her lab. From her point of view,
“So, what, you guys don’t talk to yourselves?” I laughed shakily, feeling weirdly embarrassed under his penetrating gaze.
“I try not to,” he rumbled. “There is no one who grows more tired of hearing my own thoughts than me.”
He is this adorable throughout the entire story. When changing the baby's diaper the first time,
Kohka peeled away the diaper, then hesitated. “Ah. This is... Slightly messier than I was anticipating.” When Peanut’s face crumpled inward, like he might begin to cry, Kohka made a growly humming sound, deep in his chest. “Not to worry, young one,” he said quickly. “As a warrior, I was trained always to be prepared for any situation.”
His conversations with the baby are so endearing. Every person having a baby should have someone like this MMC in their life.
My favorite description of him comes from his own words about himself,
“I will think three times before I utter a single word. And will think four times before every action,” he growled.
I’m sorry but I am absolutely not interested in the ten foot Lizard dudes. I don’t know if I can be impartial when it comes to writing about the books when they are the main characters as I’m here for the kangaroo men!! 😭😭😭😭😭
I also thought this story line was absolutely RIDICULOUS. I need to vent about this.
Firstly - who in their right minds would think they could keep a newborn alive in inhospitable territory with like a few fish to keep them alive and deadly monsters. New mums have this shhh hard enough as it is.
The whole premises of these books is how the women control everything - including their powerful mates! how these warriors aren’t scared of anything! How fiercely protected these women are.
The narrative that this tiny baby would be shunned or killed because he was a boy was absolutely RIDICULOUS!!! And as if anyone even listened to Gahn Fallo.
I found this one absolutely annoying to be honest!!! It was not even remotely believable.
The spice also creeped me out with the post partum sore bits and leaking milk - no kink shaming but that was not for me personally.
Abby and Kohka’s story has to be one of my favorites in the series! Abby was pregnant before she was taken from earth. She's hid her pregnancy since finding out it was to be a human boy. Abby is convinced that her child will never be accepted so she's hatches a plan to run as far away as she can get to save her unborn child. Then she meets Kohka and her life changes. Kohka is huge, strong , steady. Someone who means what they say, and can be depended upon in any situation. He is self depreciating, honest and when he meets Abby for the first time his whole body, heart and mind become one entity. His feelings for Abby grow and he knows he would do a thing to protect her. Fear, and danger bring these two sou!d together but its a love stronger than anything else that binds them together. the beautiful unfolding of their relationship and how it grows into a love that consume them and ultimately saves them. I love Kohka he just a wonderful male character that make me wish for one of my own. Highly recommend!!🔥💖💖🔥💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥
This was such a good continuation of the series! I really do think that Ursa Dax’s writing has improved tremendously as she has written the series. I do think that the plot has severely developed at a slow pace than I would’ve liked… But I understand that with book series like this on Kindle unlimited, she is fortunate and able to do so.
I do like how she has built up the introduction to her new series, and I cannot wait to read the first book in its to understand the mythology, and how exactly there are gods in this book series.
Loved: the instant relationships between Kohka and Keir, how Abby reassured him, how Kohka named Keir, how the meaning of the word Hope changed for both of them, the romantic tropes, the science!!! how Abby is 6’2
Didn’t love: the lactation kink (woah too much for me), the assholeyness of the gahns (you would think by NOW their way opt thinking would be altered slightly)
I really did enjoy this book and basically devoured it.
