The Resurrection Game is a book based on a screenplay for an independent movie of the same name made back in 2001 which I have no idea how to get on DVD, at least based on a quick internet search. I am curious how this miniscule budgeted film turned out.
The premise here is pretty simple: the dead have come back to life, but after a while people generally learn how to live with them, hiring either government "exterminators" or private contractors to eliminate them if they pop up in their basement or around the house, but otherwise they typically just pick on the dead buggers, running them over with their cars, sticking them with kitchen knives, and even using them for target practice. The dead are pests and as long as you are careful, they aren't that much of a hassle.
The story tosses in some corporate and government intrigue, a couple of competing freelance exterminators, and a private investigator who has been paid to discover the root cause of the zombie infestation and you have you have an interesting and somewhat amusing premise for a black comedy.
This is essentially a movie tie in so the book moves at a fast clip. It is an easy read with writing that is crisp and to the point. We are served up a few different plot twists as Jim Campbell, our main character, works to find out who is behind everything.
I won't say this is a great work but it is fun novella with a intriguing concept as the basis for the story. If you are a big fan of zombie stories than you will likely enjoy this one, but if you are not big into the genre you can probably pass it up without too many regrets.
