Rowan is a young elven thief. After successfully stealing from a shop, the thief is robbed, beaten, and left for dead. Injured and with no where else to turn, the young elf returns to the brothel that was home. There, Rowan's mother welcomes her wayward child home and sets Rowan on a different path, that of a seeker. Seekers are considered a respected class by elves and dwarves. Dwarven seekers mostly seek out rare minerals while their elven counterparts seek out any and everything. Humans and orcs consider seekers nothing more than treasure hunters at best or tomb raiders and thieves at worst. Rowan journeys up the coast to obtain an Exchanger from a tomb. Exchangers are priceless relics of the past that allow people to change their class. From there, Rowan journeys west to learn, grow more powerful, and seek out treasures as well as secrets of the past. This book contains game elements such as stats and levels. It also contains some mild cursing and adult situations, such as a fade to black sex scene and taking a life.
Good story and character, needs editing . Fair number of incorrect words some are homophones, some typo he instead of she and thank instead of think as examples as and other wrong words. Don't effect story but are distracting and some cases make so sentence does not make sense. Possible author is dictating as that would explain many of errors and as errors are actual words not being caught by any auto checkers. Third book I have read by author and same issue, story lines and character are good but all need to be edited and should have been caught by a real person - would not be caught by spell checker
Another fun adventure from Jason Hill. The story was great and very original. I liked the distopian vibe. Society moved on in different ways and adapted to its new reality. Gaia remembers!! This read really reminded me of James Haddock's book Cast Down World. I would recommend this book 100 percent. Thank you for the wonderful read, Mr. Hill. PS I got both of those "puzzles," and I was rolling 🤣. Please write more!!
Learning the Ropes is a fun story about an elf who changes professions, (the first choice didn't exactly work out for them), and makes a mess of things, really without meaning to of course. Pretty good story, and one I'd love to read more about, I'll be keeping an eye out for other books in this series in the future.
The main character never shows any growth, she muddles through dungeons using plot armour and keeps making the same mistakes over and over. The pacing is slow and the writing is cumbersome.
Cover should have had a half naked elf on it so we knew it was different than his other books. Would have given it more stars but didn’t need the mother daughter birds n bees talk yuck
This book was awesome. I loved the MC. It does get a tad dark in parts, but those are relatively few and far between. All in all, it's an excellent read.
