She's his butterfly. He's her net. The Isle of Crow is the darling of the Scottish islands With rave reviews of its lush green hills and miracle drug, It can do no wrong. But I know the truth.
The Thorns are not who I thought they were Their secret is dark, depraved and deadly. But they know my secret too So I can’t tell a damned soul
It will take more than few moments of weakness to forgive him Even if his eyes reach into my soul and his touch sets me alight The Thorns can try but they can’t keep me here forever And I swear the second I’m free I will tell the world Until someone appears on my doorstep bearing an even graver truth. Before it crumbled around me, Rupert Thorn set my world on fire Now I have the chance to burn his to the ground.
I am a Brit indie romance author who writes about love worth fighting for.
I live in the rural south of England with my husband, daughter and crazy sprockapoo.
Until recently, I inhabited the fast-paced, adrenalin-fuelled workplaces I write about, as a communications professional. Now I spend my days dreaming up new characters and stories and trying not to lose my marbles as the mother of a spirited preschooler.
The LONGING, the SECRETS, the ANGST, the FEELS, the VIBES🥴. I am melting help 🫠What can I say…I’m straight obsessed. I would like to submit a ticket to release the third and final book right now 🫡 because I NEED TO KNOW what happens next 👀 Truly, I am invested in this story ❤️🔥.
Okay now let’s get more serious and into why I LOVE this second book so much. Second books are tough, and I typically dread them. They’re a bridge, a mid point that is often ugly, hard to follow, and much less enthusiastic. This book tore that “second book stereotype” and STOMPED on it. I was aching at the start from where the first book left off and this book picked right back up there. It was everything I as the reader had wanted it to be in those first couple of chapters. It took a little then for the story itself to pick back up but boy oh boy once it did, it DID NOT STOP.
It is rare for me to be invested in the WHOLE BOOK, re: side characters, the fate of the world, etc but I am now thanks to this second book. Yes, at its heart, this book is about Rupert and Vivian. But it’s also about the Thorns, it’s also about the citizens of the Isle of Crow, and at the same time it’s also about justice, greed, old money, society, right VS wrong, etc. It’s a billionaire romance book with A PUNCH for sure! My heart is aching for the romance but also my mind is spinning it’s wheels with some of the bigger questions/themes of the book.
January, you better make this series a HEA ending or else my heart won’t be able to take it 💔🤪
loved reading the ARC for this book & getting to see the story progress after the first cliffhanger. I loveeeeee Rupert but honestly through this book I wanted to smack him round the head and tell him to pull his head out of his ass🙄 but also completely understand the reasons to his actions! I don’t think I’ve hated a character quite like Ossian and I look forward to the moment karma comes and gets him. Can’t wait for book 3!!!
Such an intense book! The forbidden love between Vivian and Rupert is so heartbreaking! That ending though, I need book 3 immediately!
So many questions I had from the first book were answered but now I have even more questions! I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I hope Ossian gets what he deserves in book 3!
ARC review I know I finished the book days ago but I swear this book left me so shocked that I needed the time to process it, this book left me staring at a wall for a good 10 minutes after I finished it and when I got back to my senses I was screaming, crying and punching my pillow because the way this book ended was insane. I need the last book right now but sadly we have to wait a few months.
I did love it though don't get it twisted, it was amazing, it had a lot of drama, and suspense and even enough spice to fit the plot, it wouldn't have made sense if there were to many spicy scenes in this one seeing how unfitting it would be. I fully understand why Rupert did what he did but OMG were there moments I was so pissed at him. Honestly I feel like I also would lose my mind Vivian if I was pretty much locked up in my house.
I don't have the words to express my hatred for Ossian, I hope he gets what he deserves soon (death) ALSOOOO I KNEW IT WASN'T RUPERT AT THE END! I KNEW IT! SOMETHING ABOUT THAT WHOLE SCENE WASN'T SITTING RIGHT WITH ME AND I WAS RIIIIGHT! OMG THE HATE I FEEL ISTG JANUARY LET ME AT HIM 👊
First of all… that cliffhanger! Ma’am… what? Why? Ugh… I need Severed Roots (book 3)… like now!
This is a hard review to write… I don’t want to give away anything from the first book.
We find Vivian trying to figure out all of the things. Her life, job, and Rupert. Who, is still engaged, because that’s apparently a rule on the Isle of Crow for the wealthy families on the island.
A secret on the island. A messed up family. Rupert and Vivian have a connection. Everyone is trying to keep them apart.
I could not put this book down. I’m obsessed. I can’t wait to see what unfolds… especially with that cliffhanger…
I BINGED THIS! Holy crap did I binge this! I couldn’t put it down! Immediately back into the isle of crows where Jagged Thorns left off and it was done so well!! I didn’t feel like I was missing anything or couldn’t pick it back up right away!
The entire book had me on the edge of my seat! I couldn’t put it down!! Twisted Vines was just as addicting as Jagged Thorn!
I cannot wait until the next book!! The cliff hanger left me wanting more!
January James does it again. This is the second book in the Thorn Trilogy and it takes off right where the first book’s jaw dropping cliffhanger leaves off. Now, in my opinion, the second book in a trilogy typically tends to be more of a gap filler type of book where not much happens, but that’s not the case with this one. I won’t give any spoilers, but I am so intrigued with the storyline and all of the angst, secrets and plot twists. I’m completely hooked on this series and I am now impatiently waiting for the release of the third and final book.
What a great continuation of this series. It had me on the edge of my seat from the start and kept me intrigued. I can’t wait to find out how this story ends.
Okay going into it I knew there was going to end on a cliffhanger but I did not expect that! But also had an inkling he was ip to something! Going to be patiently (let’s be real a little impatiently) for the next one. I cannot wait to see what January James comes up with in the next book!
OMG January has done it again. This is by far the best series I have read by this author. We are taken exactly back to where book one left off and my heart was beating in my chest. I loved the main characters and all of the side ones. This story was full of twists and turns and secrets revealed and I cannot wait till the final book is released to see how the world of Isle of Crow ends.
Vivian & Rupert * It's bigger than us. We have to know when to walk away for the good of other people. * Rupert Thorn wasn't my happy ending. He was a plot twist. * This book... I kept pausing while reading it just to make it last longer. Just like the first one, I devoured it. I love the writing style and the story. It has consumed my mind. The characters and the setting continue to be amazing. It just gets better and better. The attraction between them keeps being schorching hot. Add a little spice - cut someone out of their dress - and you score. We follow Vivian and Rupert's story. Or should I say their separation. They could never be together due to her being a commoner. So he has to marry a Consortium daughter of his choosing. Rupert is determined to end what he started, even if it means letting go of the woman he loves. He makes sure Viv is safely at home, and then he becomes close with his brother to achieve what he set his mind to and destroy it all. Will he manage? The CLIFFHANGER you guys... I was left with my mouth agape. I need the next book ASAP. *I received an ARC of this book and gave my honest opinion.
Excuse me but this cliffhanger, No ma'am! I need the 3rd book!!!! Ugh I thought the first books cliffhanger was going to drive me nuts but nope this one did it! I screamed when I got to the end! The suspense, spice & all the new developments just keeps you turning the pages. January will not disappoint you with this series! I can't recommend it enough!
That ending hurt more than the huge cliffhanger from the first book!! I’m so nervous for the third book in this trilogy now.
I didn’t know I could love Rupert and Vivian more, but the sacrifices made in this book solidified that. Though I have no clue where they’ll go from here! There’s also so many side characters to love and hope for. Elspeth grew on me a little, but I was always waiting for her to show her true-r colors.
The imagery of the island is as great as before, dark and haunted and consumed by secrets of the Consortium. I’m interested to see what happens with the red tops, and how the Thorns’ future is affected in the process.
This is definitely a 50/5 ⭐️ for me. Just perfection.
I've just finished this, and I could scream! January has done it again with such an amazing book and crazy cliffhanger! Surely, this woman should just gain the title of MRS Cliffhanger!! They're always insane.
Firstly, the story kicks off from where the first one finished, and we again have 2 POVs of Rupert and Vivian. I'm really glad about this as I feel having Ruperts' perspective really brought the story to life. As well as my inner turmoil. Which did indeed have me shouting at him and Vi over things that were happening.
The story kicks off quickly and continues at quite a rapid pace, I didn't find myself bored or plagued with any filler chapters, and I just could put it down! And when I did, I was pining to pick it back up again.
The two main characters are just so loveable, and I felt we really tuned into Viv's emotions this time, and I can't tell you how many times I just wanted to give her a hug! Rupert... just when I thought January couldn't make me love him more than I already did, she hit me with him and all his feels. I just can't!
For example: 'Did you hear me, Vivian? I can make it work. I don't think I can live without you' - Rupert.
Who doesn't love dark, mysterious, grumpy, hates everyone but her and handsome men? But to top it off, he says mushy stuff like that! *swoon!*
The ending had me totally gobsmacked, and I honestly can't believe the audacity of January for leaving it like that! I'm about ready to sell my soul to get my hands on the next book, like now!
There is spice within this book, and it's phenomenal. I literally ate it up! I would have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Just as love as it's with Rupert! This being said, I would have loved more spice with Rupert! I mean, you can never really have too much, right? And this was my only gripe. Everything else was just perfection.
I would highly recommend this book and series of your looking for dark gothic esque romance with forbidden love, enemies to lovers, secrets to be uncovered, black mailing, and wealthy families on a secluded island! Then definitely pick this up, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.
“The heart is a strange thing. When an arm breaks, the arm hurts. When an ankle breaks, the ankle hurts. When a heart breaks, everything hurts.”
Rating: 5+/5⭐️ Spice: 3.5/5🌶️
🪞 Thank you thank you January James for this ARC!! I have been waiting on book 2 since I finished the first in March & now I’m waiting on book 3 😂
🪞 I thought book 1 was great, but dang this one starts immediately and never stops. The angst and tension was palpable. That twist & then the cliffhanger at the end 🤯😭 I reread the last chapter like 10 times cause I just can’t believe what happens. I still think about it everyday and it’s going to drive me crazy not knowing what happens next for a while 😫
🥀“Roses roamed the walls in a riot of blood red petals and deadly thorns. Twisted vines trapped them together in one thick mass of tragedy.”🥀
🪞 Vivian omg I love her!! I love her defiance and tenacity 🫶🏻 Even being hurt by Rupert’s actions, she brought the fight to him. She wasn’t letting go easily. If he was playing the game, she was playing harder.
🪞 Rupert ahhhh my god this man!! I’m screaming and squealing! I love him, I hate him (not really but also really😂), I love him. This man’s decision making was driving me insane. I love his jealous and protective side. And scissors ✂️ I’m gonna leave it there scissors 😮💨🥵 iykyk
🪞Easily one of my favorite couples ever!! 😍 I love their tit-for-tat game. I hated it too 😂 but it was such a joy to see a different, jealous even more determined side to each character. I’m so excited and impatiently waiting for book 3! I need to know how that cliffhanger ends!!!
🥀“Rupert Thorn wasn’t my happy ending. He was a plot twist.”🥀
• Dual POV • Book 2 in series • Cliffhanger ending • Dark billionaire romance • Forbidden romance • Forced proximity • Blackmail • Enemies to lovers • Morally grey MMC
Ok so I finished this a little while ago and wanted to give myself some time to process and pick my jaw up from off of the floor, but apparently that’s where it will remain until January James reconciles that ending—hopefully in the third installment of this highly addictive and totally unputdownable series. WOW. I DEVOURED THIS.
Just when I thought Vivian and Rupert’s story couldn’t get anymore anxiety-inducing, January James says “hold my beer” so to speak, and takes us deep into another angsty read that’s full of action, drama and spice.
Twisted Vines picks up right where Jagged Thorns left off on the elusive Isle of Crow. Vivian has discovered the Thorns’ secret and is now dealing with the consequences of being privy to that information. Rupert is becoming more and more forbidden and off-limits to her—no matter what their feelings for one another may or may not be. Some of the side characters are developed further in this book, and we get deeper insights into their history and that of the island. And so many new twists and turns are thrown at the reader, causing immense anxiety and frustration (but in a really good and addictive way). The spice is also amped up a few notches in book 2, which I am all here for!
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: this series is a MUST-READ if you love a good gothic romance with all the action, suspense, and jaw-dropping twists!
Thank you so much to January James for the ARC! I am now desperately and anxiously awaiting book 3!!!
Unpopular opinion while I loved the Deception, Manipulation, Betrayal and Family Secrets; I wasn't fond of Vivian. This woman has had her world turned upside down but yet all she can focus on is Rupert and his man meat.
She has been threatened, blackmailed you name it. Yes, Rupert is trying to find a way out of the family business but no matter what happens, no matter how bad her feelings are hurt, no matter how much disrespect his family shows her, she is weak in his presence. Which is the very thing that lives her life hanging in the balance.
Rupert is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Torn between proving his loyalty to his family and keeping Vivian safe he is walking a tightrope. Knee deep in family secrets, murder, illegal drug manufacturing and trying to stay off of his psychotic brother's radar; Rupert is left with little options but one thing is for certain......he can't stay away from Vivian.
Rupert's family plans for his life has been put into motion while Vivian who only seems to think with her vagina when she thinks of Rupert finds herself in a compromising position with the one person she should have been careful around.
I'm hoping by book 3 that Vivian focusses on what's important such as staying alive and figuring out a way to turn the tables on the Thorn family before her libido puts her in an early grave.
This book kicks off right where book one dropped us off the edge of a cliff and laughed as we fell. Vivian has discovered the secret behind Bas and is horrified that Rupert has known all along.
Suddenly, the Isle of Crow has lost its appeal, and Vivi just wants to go home, but true to his wrack job, Nature Ruperts brother Ossian isn't going to let her off the island so easily and makes ut so she cant leave.
This book is stuffed full of twists and turns as we dive deeper into the goings-on on the Isle, and for as many questions we get answered, there are more just waiting to be asked.
Rupert and Vivi are fire 🔥 that man is so dominant. it's no wonder she can't resist him.
The book is really well written. The world building is phenomenal and just keeps getting better and more intricate the more we get into the books, but having said this is really easy to read and flows perfectly.
But as with the last book, we have been thrown into the pits of cliffhanger hell and now must await the next instalment to find out if Ossian gets his comeuppance and Vivi and Rupert get their happily ever after.
𝑇𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑉𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠 picks up immediately where the cliffhanger in 𝐽𝑎𝑔𝑔𝑒𝑑 𝑇ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑛𝑠 left off. But I’ll leave it at that in case you haven’t read the first book yet.
This is such an intriguing story with twists and turns all around. I couldn’t help but get sucked in. Vivian and Rupert still have out of this world chemistry, but I was ready to slap him at some points because of his behavior, even though I understand his intentions and actions are for the greater good. And Ossian, the primary villain of the story, only gets worse! Man, I hate him.
Like the first book, this one ends with a cliffhanger… a much worse cliffhanger in my opinion. I knew there would be one and kept trying to guess what it would be. I didn’t figure it out until moments before the reveal and I wouldn’t have guessed it was going in that direction. Some may say it’s f*cked up, but that depends on you as the reader and the level of dark you like or don’t like in your books. I don’t say that as a deterrent because I’m loving this series. Just be prepared.
I’ll be impatiently awaiting the final book in this trilogy because I NEED answers!
𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: 🦋 Billionaire 🦋 Forbidden Love 🦋 Blackmail 🦋 Arranged Marriage (not between MCs) 🦋 Dual POV
Thank you to January James for sending me this ARC. As always, my thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
Ahhhhh January did it again! I swear i'm going to have an acute stress reaction to these darn cliffhangers. BUT i'm a glutton for punishment and love every minute of it. Twisted Vines, our second instalment of the Thorn Trilogy, went by in a flash, that's how good it was. Before I knew what was happening I was reading the last damn page and cursing. Vivian and Rupert are seriously the unluckiest lovers out there. Two people so perfect for each other who have everything stacked against them...it really really stinks, just like the Isle of Crow ;) I honestly love everything about this series so far, the plot is intense, the characters are so diverse and passionate and well I didn't think I could hate Ossian Thorn anymore than I did but surprise he's a grade A dirt ball. I can't wait for the third and final instalment, in fact i'm quite desperate. I just NEED something good to happen for Vivian and Rupert. So here I am counting down the days until I can breathe...I mean READ this series again.
Thank you to January for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you January James for sending an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This book picks up right after book one ends and drives right into the action. Vivian had just found out the islands Secret too growing their mushrooms and now not only is her life in danger, but so is the lives of everyone she cares about.
The feelings between Rupert and Vivian are very clearly written. I do think that his love style is chaotic and destructive but it seems to work with his character. He is in a hard place. He wants to end his families business but also has to pretend he is there for his family and that means hating the woman he loves. He constantly fights an internal battle and you can clearly tell he is struggling but also believes he is doing the right thing.
I thought that the details that were uncovered in book one were surprising, nothing prepared me for everything uncovered in book two. The ending left me shocked. Literally. Never seen it coming. Can’t wait for book three!!
I am recommending this to all readers who enjoy a darker romance thriller novel.
Twisted Vines, by January James, is the gripping second installment of the Thorn Trilogy continuing the captivating story started in, Jagged Thorns. James is the queen of cliffhangers, leaving readers in a state of anticipation and longing for more.
From the very beginning, Twisted Vines plunges readers back into the tumultuous Isle of Crow, picking up right where the previous book left off. The opening scene is masterfully executed, immediately taking you back and reigniting your emotional connection to the characters. It was an intense experience that had me on the edge of my seat, with the need to throw my Kindle across the room!
Vivian and Rupert, continue to clash in a way that keeps readers engrossed. Vivian, armed with the secrets she has learned about the Thorns, finds herself trapped on the island, unable to leave. Rupert, torn between his love for Vivian and his family's legacy, struggles to navigate the delicate balance between personal desires and the need for change within the family business.
For those who have read Jagged Thorns and hoped to have their questions answered Twisted Vines delivers on that front. However, with each revelation comes a host of unanswered questions, leaving you on edge for the third and final installment.
January James has once again proven her skill at crafting an enthralling book filled with intense emotions, complex characters, and a plot that keeps readers hooked from beginning to end.
You will find me in bed nursing this book hangover for weeks!
I’m going to start this by saying, I did not expect that ending! Seriously, one of the best cliffhangers I’ve ever read. I need the next book IMMEDIATELY.
Ok, so now to the actual review part. This book picks up right where the first book left us, will suck you in and has zero intentions of letting you go. It is thrilling, dark, intense, captivating, and so much more. I absolutely love Rupert and Vivian, they have undeniable chemistry and their character development throughout this book was perfection. Be prepared to feel all the emotions while reading this. It was spectacular and I can not wait for the next book!!
We pick up right where we left off in the first book. Vivian has learned the secret of Bas and needs to get away and fast. She wants to leave the isle and never look back. But Rupert’s brother has different plans. He threatens her loved ones and blackmails her to stay.
Rupert and Vivian’s chemistry is through the roof and I love how obsessed he is with her. Even when he should, he can’t keep away.
The book gets deeper into the back story and on goings of the Isle of Crow. We get to learn who is on the good side and who is on the bad side.
Once again January James leaves us with another cliff hanger and my mouth his the floor!!
That was such a twisted cliffhanger, there is no way that anyone could have seen that coming just like with book 1. It's a little bit out there but it fits in with the story. Makes me intrigued as to what is going to happen in book 3.
This book had me liking Rupert even more, I didn't warm to him hugely in the first book, but this one has shown what his long-term plans could actually be and how he might just be able to pull them off. Vivian, however, I'm mixed, in some parts I really liked her and in others I wanted to shake some sense into her. They do have some very steamy chemistry going on though.
There are some major plot twists and secrets revealed in this book that you will not see coming. We also find out which side of the family many of the characters are on and who is willing to help, even at great cost to themselves. The book is filled with blackmail and suspense which will keep you turning those pages.
- dark very steamy romance - billionaire - duel pov - forbidden relationship - arrange marriage (not fmc) - twisted cliffhangers!
Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Spice - 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 WOW!! Twisted Vines was absolutely fantastic. It literally had me in my feels the whole way through. My heart hurt so much Vivi and Rupert. The tension, lies, secrets, and betrayals will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end. The cliffhanger we were left with will have you gasping or screaming and possibly wanting to toss your kindle right out the window. January's writing style is just perfection, and this series is *chefs kiss* I can't wait to see what happens next because after that cliffhanger. How can things get any worse and no January that is not a challenge 😂 Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your amazing team and for being on this ARC journey for this series.
This series has got me on edge and having just got to the end of Twisted Vines, I’m sat here with my heart beating fast and thinking OMG!!! The first book, Jagged Thorns was intriguing and finished on a high. Twisted Vines had such a great twist, literally and finishes on such a cliffhanger that I’m so eager to know what happens next. Viv has been in such hot water since the beginning of this book, just when you think it’s going to turn out for the best, it all comes back around again and hits you square in the face. There are so many secrets within the Thorn family but can Viv help unearth them. Damn good book. Keeps me on the edge and has had me reading late into a couple of nights with the want of knowing what’s happening next. Very much looking forward to the next book in the series, Severed Roots.
