Never Getting Back Together

Rate this book
Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama in this small-town, second-chance romance. Quinn is hustling to make her dream of owning her own business come true. But first, she'll have to survive a week of hosting her small town's Founder's Festival with her ex.

Could Quinn Kelley's summer be more stressful? She's hustling to complete the certification program she needs to launch her own business. She has enough ongoing family drama to keep up with a Kardashian. And, oh yeah, her ex-boyfriend is back in town for the first time in years.

Quinn would have been perfectly happy to continue pretending Ty Rossi doesn't exist. But when their mutual friend has a family emergency and has to leave town suddenly, Quinn and Ty are left in charge of their town's Founder's Festival. If they can survive an entire week of co-hosting events without murdering each other, it'll be a miracle. Their tempers ignite like flames set to paper anytime they're together. But the more time she spends with Ty, the more Quinn questions if all those sparks are fueled entirely by hate.

This is a swoony, closed-door romantic comedy with Gilmore Girls vibes and a dreamy second-chance romance.

this book was only 220 something pages though, so i wasn't expecting the characters/plot to be fleshed out or anything like that. it wasn't different from anything i've read before. i just thought this was a pretty decent book and overall, it was okay. still, i probably would have liked it if it were longer and the characters were less annoying.

quinn: boring. i don't even have much to say about her because she was so boring. her personality was pretty much nonexistent outside of her "longing 🥺🥺" for ty. why was she thirsting over him? he acts like a middle school boy. however, i do love her relationship with her family, particularly her sisters. they were all there for each other and i thought it was so cute.

ty: he was the most boring love interest ever. i just wanted him to do something interesting that would add spice to the story but no he did nothing. the one thing he would do is play pranks that involve putting dye in a sunscreen so a neighbor of his would be green. that's not funny like what is this disney channel shit?? he thought he ate.

quinn and ty: ummmm what the fuck was that? there was nothing between them. no tension, no banter, no teasing; just nothing. they both felt like they peaked in highschool. also this is a second chance romance and the whole reason they broke up was very stupid. why center their reason for breaking up around that? anyways i just don't care about their relationship at all.

i don't know why but i just don't think i was in the mood to read this and it felt like i was forcing myself to get through it. so maybe if i had picked it up at a different time i might have enjoyed it more 😃

A story best enjoyed by the younger generation—tweens & twenties—in my opinion. It wasn’t my usual type read, and I found the characters immature for the most part. The guys still play irresponsible pranks all the time, and the boyfriend/girlfriend banter back & forth without much regard for each others feelings. The story does has some funny moments; however, the characters need major growth to become responsible and more likeable.

Who doesn't like a second chance at love especially in a small town. When Ty returns for the summer Quinn and him are bumping into each other and the tension is there with angst. I also like the representation of chronic illness that was woven in the story. It was a lovely book.

*I received an e-arc for review. Thank you to the author for this opportunity. All thoughts are my own*

This was absolutely adorable! This was my second read from Krysti Meyer and she did not disappoint! I can’t wait to read more of her books in the future.

This was an enemies to lovers, second chance, small town romance. It had all the tropes I love rolled into one! Quinn and Ty were so cute! They haven’t seen each other since they broke up, but they are forced into spending time together when they unexpectedly have to co-host their town’s Founder’s Festival. Tempers flare, but sparks ignite as they work together! I also wanted to note that Quinn has an autoimmune condition that she has to manage, and I really enjoyed seeing that representation in the book.

I definitely recommend!

Never Getting Back Together was the first book I read by Krysti Meyer. Although it was a cute and easy read, it wasn't my cup of tea. The story had some funny moments, but the main characters lacked growth and were quite immature, especially Quinn. I found her character's chronic illness interesting, but her personality didn't click with me.

What I enjoyed most about the book was the banter between Quinn, her aunt, and her cousin. Those moments were the best for me and made the story more enjoyable. However, the miscommunication between the main characters was quite childish and brought down the rating for me.

Overall, it was a quick and cute read.

Thanks to the Publisher and NetGalley for an early review copy.

This was a cute, sweet, second chance romance. I feel like I would have loved this when I was a teenager and in my T-Swift era.

The characters were a little immature and there wasn’t much tension between them. No spice or heat. It really felt like it was targeted towards middle school/maybe high school age girls.

However, there were some cute and sweet moments. The highlight of this book is that it has a really important message as the fmc struggles with with a chronic illness that isn’t well known and very expensive to treat called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. I think the author was trying to bring awareness to this cause which is really important. Here’s what the author said about it…

“We need more affordable options for health care in this country. We need doctors who'll take the time to help patients find the underlying causes of chronic conditions, so we can all live our fullest and happiest lives. No one should ever have to choose between paying their mortgage and buying the medications they need.”

Anyways here are some quotes I thought were cute:

“Quinn, I'm not over you. I don't think I'll ever be over you."

“And I couldn't come back, knowing I'd see you. Knowing it would tear me apart all over again. I just—I couldn't."

“I'll never be over him, either. My heart belongs to him. It always has. Even when he makes me crazy. Even when he makes me hurt.”

“To look at Ty is to feel sunshine on your skin. He's everything bright and fun. He's my own personal brand of fairytale.”

"I missed us every single day I was gone. I missed you."

“I'd never loved anyone the way I loved you. The idea that you could write me off like that, it broke every piece of me."

"As long as you're holding my hand, I'm ready for anything."

“Something tells me that no matter what obstacles we face in the future, we are always going to get back together.”

“In my opinion, people severely underrate the value of predictability. Clearly, they’ve never had to live without it.”

When I saw this book marketed as Gilmore Girls meets Sweet Home Alabama, I thought okay, LFGO! I will say, I hadn’t realized the age range for this book until after I read it. B&N has it marketed towards 13-18 year olds, and the main characters are 20-21. For some reason, I anticipated them being a bit older, so that skewed my perspective a little bit. Overall, I enjoyed this story. It was an easy, light read that mixed a small-town setting, a second-chance romance, humor, and education regarding chronic health conditions.

Things I loved:
🍪 The “food as medicine” and chronic illness representation - Quinn, the FMC, has MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), which drives her to wanting to become a nutrition counselor so that she can support others with similar conditions and struggles. I absolutely LOVED this. As someone who has struggled similarly myself, I related to Quinn in a lot of ways. I was 100% here for her cooking classes!
🍪 The bond between the Kelley women - I loved the way Liv and Betty supported Quinn by adding both kindness and laughter into her life. Get Betty some popcorn already!
🍪 The small-town setting - I am a sucker for watching lightning bugs light up the night sky whilst relaxing in the bed of a pickup truck, so references to those moments made me smile.

I think I struggled with simply wanting more. I would’ve loved to have learned more about Ty. I didn’t feel as connected to him as I would’ve liked, maybe because I didn’t feel like I knew much about him? I also would’ve loved more of the town so that I could fully appreciate the quirkiness being attributed to their characters. That being said, this one is a solid 3.5 stars for me, and I really hope to see more of this kind of “food as medicine” rep in books. It’s awesome!

Of course a quote from Taylor Swift had to start the book that makes me sing her song every time I see the cover.

Never Getting Back Together is a sweet, and swoony, small town second chance romance.

The MCs are in their very early 20s, still college age, and as such act very immature. They are not the best communicators, so it's easily to get frustrated with them, but I do think their behavior is on point for that age. Some reviews stated they were too immature, but as mom of 2 daughters of similar age, it seems on point.

The female MC has a chronic illness, and I appreciated the representation of it and all that it entailed from foods eaten, to career choices and even medical insurance stress.

I look forward to what she writes next!

Can I please move to a small town with fun events and sweet residents? The setting of this was basically a southern version of Stars Hollow and I loved it! There are cute small businesses, bake sales, and some (mostly) harmless pranks to make the story fun and entertaining.

The main character was likeable and I appreciated all that she did to help others with their chronic illnesses. She was kind and caring and I rooted for her to find love and happiness.

This flew by and I'm so excited that it's now out in the world for everyone to enjoy!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to the author for the copy.

UNBIASED ARC REVIEW :)

Never Getting Back Together is a second chance romance, enemies(?) to lovers, forced proximity novel with a heavy focus on living with a Chronic Illness.

It definitely had the potential to be amazing, but just missed the mark a few times. There was no real tension between the characters before they decided to rekindle their love and I felt as though we didn’t really get to know the MMC at all.

But it was an easy read, so I would recommend it to someone who was trying to get into reading or in a reading slump.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book! This book has some of my favourite tropes such as small town romance, and second chance! It was easy to read, enjoyable and the characters were sweet. I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I hoped but it was still a fun read!!

Imagine you are temporarily in charge of the End of Summer Madness Festival in Stars Hollow and you have to team up with your ex-boyfriend whom you despise. All the while trying to finish a certification program and launch your own business. This book bring the small town charm in spades. If you are a lover of Gilmore Girls, I think this book is for you.

Quinn struggles with a chronic illness that effects every aspect of her life, especially the food she intakes. She is looking to start her own business helping others make food plans and learn different swaps for recipes i.e. gluten and dairy free. While trying to complete all of that, she volunteers to help run her small town's Founder's Festival with the help of her ex-boyfriend, who is back home for the summer. Quinn can't stand Ty Rossi and wants nothing to do with him and his pranks. And as the title of the book suggests Quinn and Ty are NEVER getting back together, but maybe Quinn has is all wrong.

This book was a fun read, it kept me interested enough to keep reading it and there was for sure some highlighter worthy moments. This was a closed door romance with no spice which was fine. I always prefer spice in my romance but this one kept my interest. I am glad that I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I would not have found this book other wise and I think the Author did a really good job of representing a chronic illness she herself has and struggles with.

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!

My Swiftie love is strong, but this book was a big “go girl, give me nothing!” I was about a third in and I felt like only the B-plots were simmering. You’d think that the cover and the title would indicate a romance book on their own, but the romance itself was lacking. I wanted banter, chemistry, some charming Southern twang … I got nothing. I needed a backstory for this second chance romance to be believable. If this was a B-plot romance book, it didn’t work. I get that this book was short but a little more substance could’ve been added.

I will say, I did like Quinn. I’m all here for a girl with a chronic illness (and the representation because I have read some good romances with that aspect), and baking dream, and goals. I was rooting for her. Ty had so much potential but he was just boring.

I have read a couple of romance novels with a MC with a chronic illness (sometimes both MCs) that are better, but this book is still nice to read if you want something quick.

Although, I want to join the ladies on their smutty book Saturdays. I’m here for that too.

ARC Read:
I did not enjoy this overall and found myself avoiding reading it for the last 20% or so (about 35mins reading time per my kindle reading speed). It would do well with an editor and some things were fairly predictable. There’s times where details change like colors and objects in someone’s hand (from a Stanley to a Hydroflask and back again) and missing quotation marks here and there. This definitely has a YA feel to it and would be best for younger readers, maybe 13-15. I didn’t find the female main character Quinn to be very likable, though I enjoyed Ty and Lucia as side/background characters. It just felt very teenage to me, which I’m sure was probably the intent. I’m not the intended audience. Still, it stands that it needs some better editing. I don’t mind the self-insertion of Quinn’s MCAS, but if there’s insertion like this I feel like it would be better to explain the disorder for the reader to better understand. As someone who’s never heard of it before, it just sounds like severe debilitating allergies to me, and I’m not sure if that’s accurate or not. Still, Quinn and Ty’s relationship is very middle-school for being characters in their 20s.

This story is fantastic! It’s funny, sweet, and the banter and relationship makes you want to keep reading. I had a couple of “just one more chapter” moments with this book but that’s expected with such a talented writer. The thing that really sticks out with this story is the representation. I have a couple of spoonie friends and the book nails it perfectly. It’s rare that we get an open and accurate view of what life is like for someone with a chronic illness. It’s important that more people understand how society and systems can overlook some people just trying to live their lives. Praise for the author for having the courage to write a story with a main character with MCAS, I hope to see more representation like this in the future. 5/5!

Thank you to the publishing team at IBPA for allowing me access to this ARC in exchange for a honest review.

This was a super cute, country vibe romance read and I was here for it.

From the moment we met Quinn, I was drawn to her personality and characterisation. She had clearly been hurt and although she had a barrier up, she was extremely likeable. For me, it took longer to warm to Ty. I think the knowledge that he had hurt Quinn in the past and it put me off getting to know him. However, he had a lot of love to give and it made me feel all warm inside when they realised there was something still there.

A lovely little read for anyone who is a fan of second-chance love and slow burns.

3.5 stars for me

This was my first read from this author and I will be looking for more.

It’s the quintessential small town romance and everything that entails. Town gossips, interfering family members and cute situations.

Quinn and Ty’s relationship was interesting and I enjoyed the ending, but I did wish I got a little more background on them. The miscommunication between the two is strong and although they’re young, they’re not young enough that their decisions always made sense to me.

An enemies to lovers romance + second chance trope that had me riveted from page 1. Quinn and Ty spark and sparkle. They haven’t seen each other in 3 years when Quinn said that she never wanted to see him again. But they’re seeing a lot of each other they help with the town Founders Festival. I loved the voice of Quinn. She was relatable but unique. Quinn has an immunological disorder and it was great seeing that rep. This is a closed door romance, but with plenty of slow burn sizzle. I read it in one sitting and I absolutely adored it!

I'm not typically one for rom-com books, but this one was adorable.

Following the story of Quinn and her ex-sweetheart, Ty, the two are forced to work together to celebrate their twins founders festival.

The tension between the two of them is palpable. Quinn's story is relatable, and all you want is for her to come out on top, but will she?

Ty the handsome boy-next-door moves away and goes radio silent, leaves readers asking if he's really the right guy for Quinn.

A super quick and adorable read!

Sadly, the only thing more disappointing than being promised a small town romance and not getting any of that, was the absolute lack of chemistry between Quinn and Ty… how they dated once is a mystery to me, why they got back together is just unexplainable.

I really liked the writing style in this book. It didn’t feel too predictable and the dialogue felt realistic. Quinn has MCAS and I learned a lot about what that looks like — I’d never read a heroine with this condition before. That was fresh, and so was the cause for the original breakup of the main couple. I had fun on this ride and want to read this author’s other book!!

This story was a nice read.

It's about two ex-lovers who are forced to work together to make the annual festival a success. When Quinn is working hard to make her dream of owning her own business come true, she has forgotten about ex Ty. But then suddenly he shows up in his hometown and they bump into each other. Trying to keep their distance they ultimately can't do so anymore because they both want to help their friend in need. And to help their friend, they will have to work together.

A lot happens and they can't deny the tension between them. So as the story continues things are getting cleared and who knows what else might happen? Things just aren't always what they seem and Quinn and Ty both learn this, perhaps the hard way.

I gave the book 3 stars. As I said, it was a fun read.
