Spot discovers all sorts of exciting new things when he goes on his very first walk. Another delightful lift-the-flap adventure with Eric Hill's adorable Spot the dog.
Eric Gordon Hill OBE was a popular author and illustrator of children's picture books, best known for his character Spot the Dog. His works have been widely praised for their contributions to child literacy. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.

Expanding our look at the world Spot inhabits, Spot's First Walk invites us along for a morning of discoveries. Leaving Mum's side can be scary when you're not used to it, but Spot is ready to play without Sally right there keeping watch.
A break in the wooden fence allows Spot a place to sneak through. He finds a bright colored shed, but must be careful of the cat inside, hackles raised. The chicken coop houses a friendly hen with her chicks, and Spot is drawn by the sound of a woodpecker in a tree. Through a garden door lovely flowers bloom, and a bunny hiding in the garden knows where Spot can dig up a bone. A drink from a swirling little pond costs Spot an accidental dunking, but he's collected enough treasures for his adventure to be worth it.
Venturing into the world for the first time is a mix of surprise, delight, and fright. You aren't sure what to expect, avoid, or which places, activities, and people will turn out to be your favorites, but learning these things is the joy of life. Spot is forming an identity outside of Sally's direct influence, a necessity as he develops into his own pup. I rate Spot's First Walk two and a half stars and nearly rounded to three; there's plenty to think on for such a small book.
Non posso fare altro che essere d’accordo con la brillante recensione del tovarisch Daniele. Bellissima lettura, piena di colpi di scena che non smetteranno mai di prendere in contropiede il lettore.
I was looking for a change of pace from reading Where's Spot? to my preschool granddaughter. She enjoys this Spot book, but it isn't as much of a hit as [book:Where's Spot?|132609. I think the problem is that the story doesn't lend itself so well to variation so Grandma gets bored and can't keep that note of excitement in her voice.
We love Spot in our house, but we love him even more now because Spot's First Walk is the first book my one-year old son would sit through and then ask to be read again. I was starting to get worried he wouldn't like books as much as his mom, dad and sister do, but my faith has been restored!
In this adventure book, there is a yellow brown spot puppy name Spot. His mom gave him permission to walk on his own but along the journey spot comes to some places that he will find some surprises. This is an easy word and colorful book to have beginner readers to experience a book. It’s a fun book because it has some interactive to have kids to be interested in reading to the end of the story. Everyone will enjoy this book because it’s about a puppy and everyone loves puppies. Come grab the book and have fun reading with your child on this puppy adventure.
You can tell this is one of the earlier Spot books as his mum is still "Sally" rather than Mum and they are both dogs doing doggy things, rather than anthropomorphised animals. Spot is also a small puppy, which is a good clue! This is a fun little story about Spot getting into mischief, encountering different animals and plants on his walk by himself, and showing up a mess at the end.
Cute installation in the finding Spot series. My toddler under 2 doesn’t like this adventure as much as the original Where’s Spot. The lift the flaps in this story are creative and Spot meets new friends on his first walk. It would make a great gift for toddlers who love “lift the flap” books or Spot the puppy!
Pupen löytöretki -kirja on ehdottomasti ensimmäisiksi lukukokemuksiksi tarkoitettuja tarinoita Pupen parissa. Varsinaista juonta ei ole, luukkujen alta löydetään Pupen löytöretken aikana erilaisia asioita.
We’re a big fan of Spot in our household, and this lift the flap book is as good as the rest with Spot exploring the space around him and running into other animal friends along the way.
Spot goes on a walk and readers lift the flap to find different animals eating or resting. Another familiar lovable character that brings comfort and joy to little ones with his adventure.
Spot's First Walk by Eric Hill is a picture book in which pictures are hidden under pop ups on the page. It is interactive and allow the reader to open the flaps to discover what is inside. The book is about Spot on his walk. He discovers chikens, a cat, slug, a rabbit, a bone, water and finally returns back home. The print is big and bold and easy to read. It is a short story that could be read to a class. It keeps their attention and allows them to guess and predict what is hiding under the pictures. I think it's a really fun book for younger kids.
This is a cute little pop-up board book. Spot goes out for a walk and behind each flap there is a surprise. My son is not quite old enough for lift-the-flap books since he wants them to be gleefully-rip-off-the-flap books, but he enjoys playing with them.
ETA April 2020: Funny, I didn't remember reading this book with S as a baby but F was drawn to it at the library and picked it out. Any lift-the-flap book makes her happy!
Spot's First Walk is the perfect book for students learning to read. This book could be used for advanced Pre-K students to Kindergarten students learning to read. This book is about a dog named Spot going on his very first walk and all the different experiences he has. For an activity I would ask the students to draw a picture of something they would would want to see on a walk.
Even though Natalie enjoys Where's Spot?, she couldn't get more than three pages into this one for some reason. Baffling to me. I liked the cool different locations for the flaps as the story went on, such as the garden plants. This one really told a story, too.
A fun book following Spot on his walk. My mommy doesn't let me go on walks by myself yet. But someday I will have as much fun as spot exploring the world. I won't fall in the water though! I might like my own copy of this book, other kids tore some of the flaps out of this library copy.
