When the lifeless body of crime journalist Tom Pinder is fished out of the river near Jack's barge, it seems that the hardened old drinker may just have had one too many... and accidentally slipped to a watery death. But Pinder's young colleague doesn't buy that explanation, and asks Jack and Sarah to investigate. As they dig deep into the stories that Pinder was working on, Jack and Sarah soon discover that he had made some very dangerous enemies prepared to stop at nothing to keep a dangerous truth buried.

Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack. Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid-90s, creating innovative content and working on major projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and the best-selling mystery series Cherringham. Their latest series project is called Mydworth Mysteries.

The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of DCI John Barnaby in Midsomer Murders and Jim Riley in The Life of Riley. He is also known for his film roles in The Nativity, Sorted and Son of Rambow. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as Norman Birkett on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

Love this series

It's like joining up with old friends every time you start a new book. Going along with them as they investigate another crime in Cherringham. Then sitting back as they work it all out to find the culprit. It's a lovely way to spend a couple of hours.

It was good to be back with Sarah and Jack. This book is more of the same so if you like others in the series you will like this one. I like the shorter novella nature of this series.

I love the Cherringham Series!

I have read them all and will happily reread them. I like the sleuthing. I like that they're short. I like that Jack and Sarah are not in it for fame and that they always orchestrate a positive ending. I recommend to all readers.

I've been enjoying this cozy series in audio format - perfect for in the car, doing chores, etc. I like the characters, the setting, and, generally, the stories. However, with 40+ stories in the can, they're becoming repetitive. This is the second in succession, and possibly 3rd or 4th in total [can't remember with certainty], that relies on the appearance of a previously unknown child seeking fortune and/or revenge on behalf of a dead parent. 40+ bad guys is a lot, but surely there are more possibilities for 'who done it'.

My only objection is that the authors don't write them fast enough. My praise, however... I'll just keep singing it. I really do love this series.

Can't say much more without being spoilery for the whole series.

Love this series! I have enjoyed reading this series since I discovered it in 2017. Alway a good storyline and what I like is that I can read through it in an afternoon or evening. Sometimes I drag them out, too. Just wish they were on Kindle Unlimited too.

Lukijana Neil Dudgeon.
Lukija oli taas aivan ihana. Tarina oli ehkä vähän kevyemmästä päästä, mutta lopussa oli kyllä yllätysratkaisu.

A good book to listen too when you clean the house. It gives you ”Midsomer murders” wibes. It is fun to try to figure out how the guilty person is. Jack is a retired cop from US, Sarah is a singel mom and they solves crime together. This one was about a murder.
