Ratana: The Prophet is an excellent overview of Ratana's life and work. Not many people understand the spiritual, political and social impact this man had on the nation of New Zealand and Maoridom in particular throughout the early 1900s. This includes the work to restore the meaning of the treaty of Waitangi to the maori people and have their case heard, which has led to the modern day treaty settlements. This is a must read if you have little understanding of the oppression the Maori people of NZ suffered under British colonisation and the decline of the Maori population in the 19th century. Even though I would prefer it to have a less academic tone about it, it was very insightful. I highly recommend it for any NZ-er or people interested in prophets of the 19th/21st century.
An interesting read, the story itself is amazing, the telling not always so good. It could have been a shorter more concise book & it would have been 5 stars for me. Still very interesting reading about this man.
