King Jesus' Manual of Arms for the 'Armless: War and Peace from Genesis to Revelation

Rate this book
How can the Christian reconcile the bloody Old Testament "wars of Yahweh" with Jesus' nonviolent stance? Vernard Eller digs into the Scriptures abd finds a unified argument regarding peace and war. Obviously, this is not to say that the Old and New Testaments are saying the same thing throughout. But acceptance of Old Testament Joshuas, Isaiahs, and Davids is not a rejection of Jesus and his teachings. God's will has been constant, while man's understanding of that will has been a slow and painful process, Eller says. Dr. Eller doesn't let his theological training interfere with his ability to communicate with the ordinary laymen. His wry humor and clear writing style make even the most difficult biblical passages understandable and entertaining. The reader is able to see Biblical thought from "holy wars" to "love thy neighbor as thyself" as never before. Thanks to the entertaining Eller style, this serious study id made a whole lot easier. To arms neighbor!
