Prolific English novelist and playwright Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins especially composed adventure. People remember him best only for the book The Prisoner of Zenda (1894) and its sequel Rupert of Hentzau (1898). These works, "minor classics" of English literature, set in the contemporaneous fictional country of Ruritania, spawned the genre, known as Ruritanian romance. Zenda inspired many adaptations, most notably the Hollywood movie of 1937 of the same name.
This book really lived up to its title. It succeeded in amusing and entertaining me with light romantic entanglements and their resolutions. A good twist on the traditional 19th/ early 20th century romantic novels.
This book has different stories about courting and finding the right person to consult you about love. Each story has a plot dealing with values and virtues.
It is a fun and easy read about finding love in the Victorian era.
I never thought it would be any bit interesting to read about all that "courtship" stuff. the book indeed proved not very engrossing. however, I must admit, I enjoyed the language. quite delicious, it was.
I read the first volume, "Wheel of Love," which was quite humorous and ended abruptly. Its a quick read and I laughed through it! I was disappointed the other volume did not include the same characters. I decided not to read the rest of it (the other volumes within the novel).
