He was awful!

He was awful and I honestly couldn’t understand why the heroine still loved him. If your looking for an alpha hero this guy is not it, he was controlled by his wife for 10 years and just a wimp. With all his actions showing different we the reader are supposed to believe that he always loved the heroine. He married the other woman had a child with her and gave in to her easily. One minute he says he loves her but not in that way then we have a scene when something happens and he says something different, he’s not consistent in his thoughts or actions. As I said he was a wimp! Will not continue the series.

I really liked this book! This book is an Irish Mob story told from the H's POV and I loved. This story , although not a romance , was very entertaining. SL, the author didnt waste time on boring flashbacks that can sometimes weigh a book down. She told the story as if we already knew all the characters. The H is a tortured man and he laments constantly about his unhappiness.

The second half of this book deserves 6 out of 5 stars
Broken promises by Susan Liberty is a story of love, obsession, betrayal, loyalty and family drama all in one. It is a good mix of characters and subplots that makes for a good read.
Though some things are repeated unnecessarily and some incidents are unexplained. A little more backstory would make the tale of the Irish Mob family a more exciting and pulsating read but still it is a very interesting one and makes you wait for the sequel
The second half of the book is a seat gripping fast paced and and is unputdownable and more than compensates for the slow first half. In the first half explicit language and scenes seem forced and if avoided would have made the tale a gripping one.

Good Read

The story line was good. I liked all the characters. Only downfall for me was the main character obsession over the one character and we we're reminded of it over and over again.

Jeez!

Can a book be any more twisted, like seriously. Well in my thoughts, the more twisted, the better. It kept me glued.

Just got done reading Broken Promises. WOW; excellent!

The story is fast-paced, and the second half is nonstop action. The characters are well developed, the scenes are well thought out and planned, and there’s an equal balance of romance/sex/action and adventure.

Devilan is my favorite character, of course. The angst between his current life and the life he wants is palpable. He’s a conflicted man and has a lot to figure out. Even though there are significant obstacles in his way, I sense he’ll make it.

The writing engaged my senses. I could feel the love/pain; I could hear and smell the gun battle; I could taste blood in my mouth.

Five stars: move it to the top of your TBR pile!

I found the story easy to read and soon I was hooked. It really only took me a few days to read the whole book and I needed to finish it. A story of a NYC Irish Mafia family involving 2 boys and a girl. The closeness of the families and how they dealt with their obstacles is very different than a half civilian and a half mob family. I had to overcome my own inadequacies with downloading the book on my digital device. I did end up reading it on my iPhone which wasn’t ideal but it’s done.
I highly recommend this book; a great read.

This book had everything a great read requires. It was fast paced and filled with action, passion and intrigue. The characters were well defined and I found the book interesting and enlightening on a subject I am not familiar with. Plot is set to continue to another book yet I felt it didn’t leave me hanging.

Other than the main story line, this book is nice! The writing is interesting enough to keep the reader going, there is a lot going on at any given time while the reader does not lose track of what is happening, and the characters are introduced in a comprehensible way where each of them has a particular role.

What bothered me about the main story itself, is that it appears to underestimate both the main character and the reader. From page one it is clear what is going on inside the head of the main character, but the reader is reminded of these goings-on constantly to the point where I found myself sighing out loud when the character went on to explain the same set of feelings in yet another way. I did get used to it over the course of the book, but it bothered me enough that it cost the book a star and a half in my rating.

The world in which the characters exist is well-written and I feel like I could draw a map from memory even now, a week after finishing the book. I will keep an eye out for the next book to see whether the story will progress now that this book's narrative has played out.

Very good book. I was however a little upset about the sexual content and the graphic details. I am sure that makes me a prude but I did squirm when I read it. The constant use of the F word was a bit offensive but then again I must be a bit prudish I did like the book and the plot and cannot wait until the second one comes out great job Susan keep up the great work your living my dream enjoy

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Stuck in a war between two mafias, as well as living the life he wants over the one he feels he’s being forced into, Devilan is at his wit’s end. His father is the leader of the Irish Mafia, and already has Devilan’s life mapped out for him. He should be happy about being so special, but it isn’t the life he truly wants to lead. Due to a drunken one night stand in college, he ended up having to marry someone he didn’t want to be with, and had to throw the true love of his life to the wind.

Broken Promises is written in the first person point of view, and gave a great look at our protagonist, Devilan. There was an immediate sense of character, and a quick understanding of what he was feeling and why he felt the way he did. Sure, he’s made some really bad decisions that lead him to the crappy spot he was in, but I found it easy enough to sympathize with him.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of romance myself, but I can honestly say this one was okay. There is a good love story here, and it’s all amidst a whole lot of mafia trouble. Violent, gritty and suspenseful, Broken Promises is loaded with unexpected turns and life or death situations. It was quite the interesting read.

Despite being labelled with the genre of contemporary fiction, this book as a whole — while very focused on love — revolved much more around the Irish and Italian mafia, and the war between the two of them. That, and the protection of family, familial bonds, and the willingness to do anything for the safety of the ones you love.

If you enjoy romance with a whole lot of action involved, this is the book for you and I would recommend giving it a try.

I love dark nontraditional contemporary romance novels. Broken Promises: Promise Series- Book 1 fits the definition. It's filled with suspense and intrigue. Broken Promises has no shortage of adult language, sex, and violence; after all, it's about a man in the Irish Mafia.

Devilan Kincaid, an Irish Mafia boss, is a complicated, handsome protagonist with flaws. His journey through life is a rocky one with many twists and turns.

Devilan's wife, Ellen Kincaid, is an intelligent, modern civilian who believes the Irish are archaic in their traditions and beliefs. Ellen's goals: break the glass ceiling for womankind, become a prominent businesswoman, and renowned artist.

Maggie MacCarthy, a Mafia woman, is Devilan's, true love. She has a deep love for her Irish family and believes strongly in the Irish Culture. Maggie's goals: feed hungry children and take care of the oppressed.

I hope you enjoy reading Broken Promises: Promise Series - Book 1 as much as I enjoyed writing it.

A true page-turner!

This book about the characters in the Irish Mob is truly exciting. The love story in the background and foreground add to the heart thumping drama. This is a really great read with happiness, sadness, excitement and horror all encompassed in one book! Can’t wait to read the rest of the series Susan Liberty has written.

Wow!

This was a great intro to a nrwvseries by Susan. In this one, we're learning about Devilan and his conflict with the wife he doesn't love and the woman who is his soul mate. I will say that lots of repetitive verbiage could have been taken out and combined with hevsecond book easily. It got tiresome with Devilan whining so much about Maggie.
