This book was a disaster. Twisted and contrived story line, forgettable characters, stops and starts throughout to the point of wanting to throw the book across the room.

Another great novel by Susan Evans McCloud! This one wasn't my favorite of hers, but I still really enjoyed it. There were a few parts that felt slower to me, or repetitive of some of the previous novels by her that I've read, but for the most part, the romance and characters kept me reading. I really loved the main girl, Amanda, and her strong spirit. I also loved the history aspect of the story, I learned a lot about what California was like when it was first being settled. Definitely a great read.

A great suspenseful clean romance. Because of the title, I knew that they would eventually end up together, but what a whirlwind of a journey.

I've got a seriously limited book collection until I get a library card!

This book is about two lovers, Amanda and Jesse, whose lives take them across the country during the years following the Gold Rush on different paths and towards other loves. But they can never forget the promises they made to each other as teenagers in Cincinnati before Jesse joined those durn Mormons and emigrated West. And before Amanda joined a train along the Oregon Trail in hopes of marrying a strange man on the Frontier she knew only from letters.

I enjoyed the history in the book, little details about life in San Francisco and Salt Lake City through those early years. But I found the romance a little corny. I was kind of annoyed at their stubborn refusal (especially on Jesse's part) to settle down with someone else. Not only that, I felt like the book created needless problems it didn't really settle.
