A biography of much-loved 70s actor Richard Beckinsale, who died on 19 March 1979 at the age of 31. It looks back at one of the biggest stars of that decade through the eyes of family, friends and colleagues.
A very insightful account of both the professional and personal life of Rising Damp and Porridge star Richard Beckinsale. He portrays as a genuine down to,Earth man who,was loved by everyone who crossed paths with him. Both Leonard Rossitor and Ronnie Barker speak highly of their former co star and Barker in particular was extremely close to,Richard whom he looked upon not only as a colleague but also as a best friend. His untimely death at a young age when at the height of his career is ultimately tragic, but this well loved actor with his boyish good looks and beautiful charm will never be forgotten. Indeed his legacy lives on in his daughter the actress Kate Beckinsale. An enjoyable read and I did feel I got to know the man behind the characters which he portrayed.
Wow what a fantastic insight into one of Britain's greatest actors. Although he died at just 31 years of age its incredible to think of how much he had done and how much he was loved and respected by everyone he ever knew, whether it be actors, school friends or anyone else. He truly is missed even to this day and this book is a must read for fans of either him, Porridge or Rising Damp. In fact just give it a read and see what you think. I would say its one of the most insightful biographies i have read :)
