The numbers 1 to 20 have never been so creatively counted as in this companion to the critically acclaimed Basher: ABC Kids. Witty, rhythmic text and Basher’s bold, appealing artwork highlight the gallery of unforgettable characters like two cheeky monkeys playing tennis, three messy piggies baking cakes, and five cool caterpillars blowing bubbles who dance across the pages. But there’s some learning that comes with all this fun—each double-page spread features a number line from 1 to 20, which combines with the language to give children essential tools to learn how to count quickly and with confidence.
This book is a great counting book when trying to teach children numbers. Unlike most counting books for children, this book goes all the way up to 20. The numbers are in a huge font listed on a vibrant page, while also spelling out the number so they child learns both the term and how the actual number looks. On the page next to the number, there is an animal followed by a sentence using the number in it as an example to children. This is important and helps the child develop the skill to use the number in a sentence and also see it represented by an animal(s) to help encourage a better understanding of each number. Every page is set up this way and does not use more than one example per two pages, which helps eliminate confusion and helps the child focus on one number at a time.
This is definitely one of the better counting books that I have seen. Each number word is spelled out, written as a numeral, and at the bottom of the page are the numbers 1-20, with the number that you are currently on underlined. There are also pictures with the number of each thing for the child to count out. This sort of repetition is great for teaching kids to count, and providing the line of numbers at the bottom is great so that they won't lose track of the order of numbers as they turn the pages.
This book is great for children learning how to count. There are animals and different things on every page to count. On the left side of the page, there is a big bold number and the word above it for the child to say it. On the right side, there are different pictures for the child to see how many there are and a cute story to go along with them. I like how at the end there is a couple of pages that go from 1 to 20 with different pictures so they can count along.
A counting book that spans the numbers 1-20. Each number is introduced in a two page spread with the first page showing the number, the word for the number and where it falls in the sequence from 1-20. The second page features a silly illustration illustrating the number. Bright, colorful and just plain silly' a sure-fire hit. At the end, all of the numbers are reviewed, but illustrations crowd the numbers making the pages look busy. Great read aloud.
My four-year-old son picked this book out from the library this week.
I wasn't expecting much when I started reading this book tonight, so I was very pleasantly surprised. My little boy spelled out the number, said the number, traced large print number on the page, and said the number again. That was great. What was even better were the absolutely delightful illustrations and text on the opposite page. Winner!
I will be looking to add this boy to my son's personal library.
I'm a fan of Basher's simple style and this is no exception. It's just a numbers book-no story or anything, but kids will enjoy the naughty sheep , skateboarding ladybugs, lost clouds, and other "characters" representing the numbers.
Great number book that counts to 20. Good use of number lines, and with objects to correspond to the number. Also, really lovely illustrations. Would be great to use in K or 1st grade.
This is not a book that I would read in storytime. That being said, I think that it was very well thought out and would be a great addition to a personal or school library.
