When a predator is near, an opossum will likely do one of two things. It will try to scare the predator away by showing its sharp teeth, or it will lie very still and pretend it's dead! In this book, beginning readers will discover how these marsupials escape predators and carry their young babies in pouches.
I think that this book and others like it in the series are great for younger school aged kids. We have used these in the first and second grade classroom to help with their "first" research book reports. There is not too much information where the child will be overwhelmed and the information isn't silly either. I think that these books are great for beginner readers. These are also AR books for anyone who might want to know. I would recommend these books to others.
beginning reader. Some good photos and simple text. Not particularly respectful of intelligence. Pouches are not just to carry babies. No mention of need to eat and grow in pouch, but they had text to include the inane "Then they come out. Hello opossums!"
great book to help young kids learn all about oppossums! Great for ages preschool and up! Nice colorful and detailed photo's of Oppossums and their babies.
