Aww, this was a really great story! The style was very simple and straightforward, even for a kids' book, but the way the family worked together was so sweet, and I was fully invested in the contest by the end. Also, I loved the focus on working hard and doing your best and not minding what other people are doing. Definitely a worthwhile read!

This is an amazing story that my child is reading in school. I only get to read some chapters with the class and never know the full story. This was an incredible story about a family pulling together to get the work done. There were two sons and a mom and dad. They owned cows and two horses. One night there was a storm and lighting hit the barn. They were able to get the animals and tools along with the wagon out in time. They needed money to build a new barn and needed to sell one of the horses. The neighbors came to help build the barn. The younger son saw that there was a horse pulling competition at the fair and wanted to join. To enter it would cost $2. The son knew that his father didn't have that kind of money. The son worked before school and after school daily. He also sold his toy that he got for Christmas so he had enough. He told his father about the event and his father said there was no money. The boy gave his father the entry money. The father told the son that even though the horses were not the largest they had heart. The father prayed about it and said if God wanted them to win then they would. It was an incredible story and one that I am so grateful that the kids are reading and learning about sacrifice and how a family needs to pull together and help each other out. Amazing story!

This is a delightful story written in an easy-to-read chapter book for younger readers. After a fire destroys the family barn, Matthew is upset that they will have to sell one of the horses. The family learns to trust God while "pulling together" to save their beloved horses.
