I met Brian Jud several years ago at a writers’ conference, and now that I’m a published author I have an arrangement with him in which he markets my title to nonbookstore retailers.

I just happened to see this book of his (with an accompanying video) in the local library. It seems a little late for me to be looking for instruction on how to handle media interviews, since I’ve lost count of the number I’ve done. On the other hand, while those interviews have most certainly been stimulating, there’s no indication that they’ve done anything for sales of my book. Jud points out that of course all parties involved want the interview to go smoothly, be informative and interesting, etc., but for the author it fails to accomplish its purpose if it doesn’t also raise consciousness about your product.

So there's a sense that maybe I'd been wasting my time.

This is a quick, easy read with numerous worthwhile pointers. I especially like the advice on how to keep an answer short and to the point, and on how to stay on point when a host throws you a curve, as they often do. (For example, in my most recent interview, the host must not have been paying attention, because he asked the same question twice.)

I found Jud's book sufficiently worth my while that I’m going through it again and taking notes.
