The seventh book in Lisanne Norman's Sholan Alliance long-running science fiction series of alien contact and interspecies conflict
In the midst of unrest on his home world of Shola, Kusac has chosen to undertake a secret mission of which only those in the highest echelons of the Brotherhood are aware. And even they are not privy to all the information Kusac has uncovered, nor all the plans he has made.
Carrie and Kaid have not been told the truth. So when Kusac flees Shola, seemingly abandoning his responsibilities, his Triad, and his clan, Carrie is devastated and Kaid is furious. Yet Carrie will not give up on Kusac, certain he will one day return to explain his actions.
But whether Kusac and his elite team can actually accomplish their mission and escape with their lives remains to be seen. For to achieve their goal they must rendezvous with the Valtegan general who is Kusac’s archenemy in the hopes of rescuing Kusac’s young son. But even if he succeeds—branded rebel by his own people, struggling to deal with new powers he scarcely understands, and caught between the machinations of his own god and those of a secret and ancient alien organization—can Kusac hope to regain all that he has lost on Shola?
I thought this was the last book of a 7 book series, but I came to the end and it didn't feel over. Looked at the author's website again and there is another book "under construction". "Shades of Gray".
Ok, I know I'm impatient when it comes to series books, but this book, number 7, came out in 2003. It's 2008? How the hell long will it be till 8 comes out? The book page that announces the 8th book claims it was last updated in May of 2003. *whine*
Loved this book, love the point we built to, but I'm greedy. I want more. I love these characters. I've been wrapped up in their lives for weeks now, the equivalent of over two years in book time, and I don't want to let them, or their story go.
3.5* I am enjoying this series. It is a true epic and the author has made a massive effort in world building with a vast number of aliens, cultures, religious ideas and characters that is very entertaining. There is also a lot of aliens having a lot of sexual encounters, often due to various chemical/biological compulsions. They are having sex within their own species, with other species, with multiple multi species partners, with the opposite sex, with the same sex, in triads, well you get the idea. Anyways, all that, plus all the galactic politics makes it all a lot of fun to read. On to Book 8!
A series of characters standing up. A lot. I love this series but if I have to read the sentence "he got to his feet" one more time it'll be too soon (probably in the next book, which I'm still itching to read) I love the development of Banner in this one and the separation and downward(aroundward?) spiral of Kusac was infuriating with a satisfying conclusion. His connection with Shaidan and rivarly with Kezule inspired a lot of emotional investment. It's also nice to see the main trio back in the spotlight after the arc with Jo's group.
Book 7 is the story of Kusac's time as a captive of Kezule. Interesting as he deals with the re-emergence of his Talent, the vast difference from before, and being without Carrie and Kaid. I do not like Kusac destroying his Triad relationship. He says and originally put the effort in, but for some reason decides to push them away and lie. Very frustrating.
Book 7 in the series. Kusac joins his enemy Kezule to retrieve the children that were bred in breeding tubes without the knowledge of their parents. Because of the way he left he is considered a renegade on Shola and has alienated Kaid on purpose to prevent him from following. A story of learning new skills and fighting for the truth
Want to travel to a different universe?! Dive right in. Humans on a colony world are attacked and reduced to slavery. Enter the Sholans, particularly Kusac, a sentient feline and a telepath. Injured and separated from his crew He seeks out a human woman, Carrie and forms a Leska bond with her. Together they work to free her people from the Valtegans.
There are several books in this series that spans time and space. Plenty of interesting aliens and lots of action. There is graphic scenes of violence and intimacy, so this series may not be for everyone.
I have read these books several times, they never fail to capture my attention and imagination. The conclusion to this series is due out in September and I can hardly wait. Every time I read through these, new pieces of the puzzle fit together. Carrie, Kusac, and friends won't let you down. Lisanne Norman is an amazing author to be able to create such a wonderful under verse with amazing characters!!
