After I spent the most incredible night of my life with a stranger, my once-beloved twin brother betrayed me, selling me into slavery to cover his debts. Every night, I'm forced to do terrible things. I don’t know how much longer I can last before I give up hope of escaping.
Trap
There are some things money can’t buy.
Before I was a billionaire who made a fortune running a tax haven, I was a sick guy with a lot of unresolved childhood trauma. But a scorching one-night stand gave me a glimpse of how to heal. My lover fled before midnight like Cinderella, but I’ll stop at nothing to get her back.
CONTENT NOTE: This book is not suitable for sensitive readers. A complete trigger warning can be found on the author's website.
Alix Key was born in Potomac, Maryland, where she grew up making her twin brother and all her dolls act out her favorite fairytales. When an all-grown-up Alix discovered that very real dangers lurk in the woods, she figured out how to rescue herself. She now lives outside Dover, Delaware with her own Prince Charming. When not writing dark romance, Alix serves as the Chief Operations Officer of Diamond Freeport.
Dnf at 10% It’s so bad that if there was a way to delete this out of my mind I would’ve done it😭 The author named the fmc AS HER OWN NAME WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK💀
it's really odd that the fmc has the same name as the writer , especially this particular fmc with all she went through... it's also very very weird that there was no metion of therapy , ptsd or heavy trauma at all , it was like a walk in the park . also , after the surgery she hates , the mmc loves it and doesn't try to reverse it ? yeah .. no don't know if i'll carry on with the series , this was disturbing not in a good way
3.5stars--ROUGH DIAMOND is the first instalment in Alix Key’s contemporary, adult DIAMOND RING: THE KIDNAPPED dark, erotic, romance trilogy focusing on twenty-nine year old businessman Travis ‘Trap’ Prince, and twenty-six year old PHD student Alix Key.
--There is a prequel novella DIAMOND SOLITAIRE available at Bookfunnel which may be accessed via a link at the beginning of the book.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise there WILL BE many triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Alix and Trap) ROUGH DIAMOND follows in the wake of the abduction and abuse of our story line heroine. Alix’s brother Leo is in trouble, and has sold his sister to a dangerous man. A one night stand with Trap Prince ends with Alix’s kidnapping, and three years will pass before Trap is able to rescue the woman that calls to his heart but three years has changed our story line couple, and Alix is no longer the woman she was hoping to be. The rescue of our heroine brings with it some closure to her ordeal but someone else is waiting to destroy them both. What ensues is the re-building relationship between Trap and Alix, as Alix must come to terms with what happened and why.
The world building is dark and gritty. The reader is up close and personal with the horrific abuse and assault against our story line heroine, three years as a sexual slave as payment for a debt. As Trap Prince struggles to locate his one-night stand, he is unaware of the potential for future harm.
The relationship between Trap and Alix begins as a one-night stand. Alix and her twin brother Leo are about to celebrate their twenty-sixth birthday but Alix will quickly discover that her brother’s betrayal is about to cost her dearly. Meeting Trap Prince gave Alix hopes for a future a future that ended at midnight, like Cinderella’s ball. The $ex scenes are aggressive and intense.
We are introduced to Alix’s brother Leo, his father and step-mother, as well as several associates and security working for Travis Prince. The requisite evil has many faces.
ROUGH DIAMOND is a story of betrayal and vengeance, abuse and addiction, power and control, forgiveness and acceptance. The premise is dark, gritty, raw and tragic; the characters are broken, desperate and flawed; the romance is edgy and traumatic.
Heed my trigger warning-there are many, graphic and detailed, often unnecessary and over the top.
But…I am not a fan of authors who use their own name as the lead in their story line. I am going to presume the author’s name is pseudonym, linking to her trilogy, but it wreaks of self interest and arrogance. ON that note, the author suggests the Kidnapped Trilogy is based in reality, a look at the author’s own life.
ROUGH DIAMOND ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.,

🆆🅰🆁🅽🅸🅽🅶:
Please please do read the author's trigger warnings before diving into this dark ride as there are many painful things that happen and some might find it sensitive.
Alix and Trap have made me feel so overwhelmed right now because of everything they go through, to be together. I'm feeling so much right now, I need a minute from those heavy emotional moments.
I fell in love right that first time with Alix and Trap Prince. How a twisted one night stand that was supposed to be fun turns into so much more for the both of them.
So the story goes that Alix just needs a break from all the ways her life is going wrong. Now that she's going to evicted from her house at midnight, all because she trusted her twin brother as always, she decides that she will have fun in whatever time is left before midnight.
Travis Prince has just secured the deal of a lifetime and all he wants is to celebrate his win especially with a lady who can brighten up the remainder of his night.
Travis aka Trap has a Dark history. Even though he might be a billionaire today yet there are wounds deep that make him a bit unusual and when Alix becomes aware of this, she makes Trap feel things and understands him in a way nobody ever has.
I so didn't expect the horrifying twist that happens next though and I was downright terrified and utterly pained for what happens with Alix.
But what shocked me is how Trap pulls strings and with an urgency goes looking out for Alix.
I don't want to give out much but be ready for a journey that might be painful but it leads to a love unlike any other with two people who might be imperfect but mesh perfectly together and their bond together brings about the kind of healing that will mend a broken heart and bring light back to soul that's lost it. Alix and Trap will turn your world upside down.
And out of nowhere comes that freaking ending. When your most dreadful fears come to life, what would you do then. My my... I'm so scared and can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.❤️❤️❤️
The story revolves around Alix, a 26-year-old psychology doctoral student who's almost done with her studies. Her life takes a wild turn when her troubled twin brother Leo steals her savings, leaving her on the brink of eviction with only $200 left.
In a bold move, Alix decides to spend her last bit of money at a nightclub called Debasement. There, she meets a handsome older guy named Travis, who's 32 years old. They share an instant connection and he convinces her to go to his place. What's interesting is that Travis's place is a compound related to his company, Diamond Freeport, which operates as a duty and tax-free zone in Dover, Delaware.
Travis, also known as ""Trap"" Prince, has some intriguing tics that stem from a harrowing experience in the jungle, where he was confined in a shack with Ebola corpses for ten days. Despite their differences and the unconventional circumstances, Alix and Travis are strongly drawn to each other.
As the story unfolds, Alix agrees to Travis's BDSM demands, which involve her stripping and showering meticulously before their intimate moments. Their connection leads to passionate and intense encounters that leave readers captivated.
However, things take a dark and unexpected turn when Alix has to rush home before midnight to avoid being locked out of her apartment. At her doorstep, she's abducted by a mysterious and hooded stranger who gags and confines her. This event marks the beginning of a harrowing ordeal in which Alix becomes a slave to the malevolent Klaus Herzog.
I won't reveal more details to avoid spoilers, but I have to say that this book is a gripping and intense read. It's filled with suspense, unexpected twists, and a storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Anyone that knows me or follows me, is aware that I’m a dark romance reader. I love it, I enjoy it and it’s always such a fun experience for me. But it’s extremely important that for it to work:
1. Trigger warnings. It’s extremely important to have trigger warnings with everything that is in the book, even if it’s a small reference. 2. Character presence. If a character specially the fmc doesn’t have any presence, it won’t work and sadly it’s the problem here. As much as I wanted to like her, I couldn’t. I did sympathize with her cause hello, all that’s happening but it still wasn’t any easier. Trap Prince… I can’t with that name, he is literally a dominant and possessive asshole with no mature communication skills. At first it was like oh ok, he wants to find her and all that but then I was like, now what??? That’s how you act for your age??? Terrible. 3. SA. It’s never easy to write and less read and here I couldn’t believe the intensity and detailed everything was. 4. After care. Where the hell was it? Where was the coping? The therapy? The time she needs before anything can happen with her and anyone else? I mean… after care is one of the MOST important things in a DR book and not reading it, was just upsetting and felt wrong. 5. The story/plot was kind of pretty straightforward, a bit predictable. Pete was the only good character.
There is significant and detailed on page SA, which I feel wasn’t needed. The purpose of the scenes is to build sympathy for the FMC and I feel this could have been achieved without the detail and or with these scenes happening off page.
I don’t like SA for the sake of SA, but thought there must be some purpose behind it all with the other reviews on this platform only being 5 stars!
The on page SA is worse for me by the fact the author says it’s a true story at the end. However, this also appears to be fiction with the pen name they’ve written the story under being the same as the FMC and the other bits in their ‘bio’ are not substantiated from some quite significant internet searching. There is also a more graphically detailed version of the story available if you want to read it…
This all being said, the plot line of the story is suspenseful and exciting, making the book more enjoyable than I expected. This is also because I am extremely lucky for SA to not be a triggering topic personally. I still have dnf regrets though.
Please proceed to read this book with caution!
My 🌶️ rating is only for the consensual sex scenes.

This book - holy crap - it totally slayed me! It’s gritty and seductive, filled with tension and absolutely impossible to put down. The story is written so freaking beautifully you don’t mind when Alix Key rips your soul out and shreds it and you have to take a few deep breaths to calm yourself before you can get back to it. The characters suck you in so you’re right there with them as their lives are ripped apart. It’s a rough ride emotionally, but totally worth it. Make no mistake - Rough Diamond is dark, like dark with a gut punch, but OMG does it deliver. So much so I can’t say enough good things about it. I will be devouring everything this author writes. EVERYTHING!!
The story revolves around Alix and Trap, and it's a rollercoaster of emotions. Alix's twin brother's betrayal is heart-wrenching, as he sells her into slavery to cover his debts.
Trap, on the other hand, can't forget the one-night stand they had before Alix disappeared. He's determined to find her, and he leaves no stone unturned in his quest.
This book is dark, raw, and intense. It delves into themes of family, betrayal, abduction, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat with its unpredictability. The steamy moments add another layer of intrigue to the story.
I highly recommend this author's work and can't wait to read more from them. If you're into haunting and tragic tales filled with emotion, this is a must-read.
This book is absolutely gripping, with a raw and alluring quality that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The writing is so incredibly captivating that you don't even mind when Alix Key tears your heart apart and you have to pause for a moment to catch your breath before diving back into the story. The characters draw you in so completely that you feel like you're right there with them as their lives unravel. It's an emotionally intense rollercoaster, but let me tell you, it's worth every single twist and turn.
Let's be clear, Rough Diamond is pretty darn dark, like seriously heavy stuff, but boy, does it pack a punch. I can't sing its praises enough. I'm eagerly waiting to devour everything else this author puts out.
I just finished reading this book, and wow, what a rollercoaster of a story it was! Alix and Trapp, they both got their own troubles, and things get really intense when Alix gets taken because of her brother's debt. It gets so messy, and you start to wonder if they can ever sort things out.
I'm really curious about what's gonna happen next. Can Trapp rescue Alix, or will Alix be the one saving him? The book ends with a new problem on the horizon, and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds in the next one.
Overall, it was a gripping story, even if it made me feel a bit uneasy at times. I'm looking forward to the next book to find out how everything pans out!
This is the first in a trilogy and this is Trap and Alix’s story. Alix is betrayed by her twin brother in the worst of ways, as he sells her into slavery to cover his debts. Trap cannot forget the 1-night stand he shared, before she disappeared, and he will leave no stone uncovered to find her. This is a dark, raw, gritty, and intense story, with emotions, family, betrayal, abduction, and is a heartwrenching, haunting, twisted, unpredictable, tragic, and steamy page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
I was lucky enough to be given an ARC of this book, and the prequel to it, to read.
What a good, if uncomfortable, story this was. Alix and Trapp both have their own issues but when Alix is taken as payment for her brother's debt things really take a nasty turn and look unlikely to be dealt with. Will Trapp be able to find and save Alix, or will she be the one to save him?
The book finishes with a new problem to fix and will, hopefully, be resolved in the next book, which I'm already looking forward to.
Alix and Trap had a night together that they'll never forget. Alix's memories will help her stay sane, but Trap's memories will drive him crazy! As soon as Alix left Trap's place, her life turned into a nightmare. If you're sensitive to trauma and easily triggered, this might be too intense for you. But if, like me, you enjoy dark books, this one is fantastic! I'm eager to read more from this author!
Alix and Trap meet and they give each other a night they stays with them. She is then taken and used and abused thanks to her brother. Over the course of three years she goes through alot. Meanwhile Trap is looking for the woman he left him while he was asleep. Be prepared for a rollercoaster then a bombshell cliffhanger.
It's a rollercoaster of emotions that you won't be able to tear yourself away from once you dive in. The story revolves around Trap, a wealthy man, and Alix, a student, who cross paths in a bar, and that's where their captivating journey begins. And let me tell you, the ending will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat with a major cliffhanger. I couldn't put it down!
This is this author’s debut book and I have to say she nailed it! The characters were well developed and the storyline was intriguing and entertaining. This story kept me on the edge of my seat, begging for more. Suspense, drama and action need I say more. I can’t wait for the continuation of this series!
Wow! I couldn’t put it down, it shook me ridgid as Alix life took a complete turn around after a one night encounter with Trap. Unpredictable, high intense drama, this definitely goes on the dark list. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I really liked this book, it was so well-written and kept me hooked from the start. I felt like I was right there with Alix, going through her nightmare. I'm so glad she had that one passionate night with Trap, who has his own troubles. Alix seems to be the only one who can help him with his problems.
But when Alix disappears, Trap stops at nothing to find her. It's been three long years, and then suddenly she reappears, but something's not quite right. And then things get really intense and bloody, and it becomes clear that they'll have to fight hard for their happy ending.
Alix and Trapp come together in the most unexpected way, and their chemistry is simply incredible. You can't help but root for them to have a happy ending. The surprising twists and turns that bring them together will keep you on the edge of your seat, eager to know how their story will unfold. It's a fantastic cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more.
